Awesome New Dessert Spots on UWS

Hope you are all doing well. I am going to be posting some information regarding new openings in the city as well as old places that have re-opened for business. Who would have ever thought the long road this pandemic would be, I sure did not at all. So many business have closed in NYC and around the world, and we need to try to support those who remain open or are re-opening as best we can. I have been ordering from many places online having food and other items delivered.

If you are planning to travel to NYC, keep in mind to check the hours of places you wish to visit as their hours may have changed. It seems places are not open their normal hours as they were prior to COVID. As of September 13, 2021, you need to provide proof of at least 1 does of coronavirus vaccine for a variety of activities, indoor dining - gyms - Broadway shows - performances - museums.

The  Excelsior Pass  (for those vaccinated in New York) and NYC Covid Safe (for those vaccinated outside New York), are the 2 apps you need to use, but paper is fine too.

The Upper West Side is one of my favorite places in the city. They are having some wonderful new dessert spots opening that I thought I would tell you about! Mark these on your Google calendar for places to go when you are able to visit the city again! They all sound pretty amazing!!

The amazing Italian chocolate and gelato company, Venchi, is planning to open a new shop in the location where L'Occatine was located after closing this year being in that location for 31 years. The spot is 198 Columbus Avenue (corner of 69th Street) and although I was sad to see L'OCCATINE close, replacing it with Venchi makes me smile! Venchi also opened another shop at Columbus Circle 1796 Broadway between 58th and 59th Streets. Founded in 1878, the gelato will just make you very happy and the chocolate selections are out of this world good. They do ship their products, you will need to wait till summer is over for chocolate to be able to be shipped but I would highly recommend if you cannot get there in person! You will not be disappointed!

Venchi just makes me so darn happy

Magnolia Bakery is opening a new location right across the street from the soon to be open Venchi. I was never a person to stand in line for Magnolia baked goods, they are tasty but for some reason, they don't rock my world.

Kee’s Chocolates has opened at 228 Columbus Avenue, between 70th and 71st Streets. I had the pleasure of trying their chocolate at an another location and all I can say is "WOW" - just amazing flavors and texture. They do ship their fantastic chocolates once summer heat is over, so if you can't get there in person, support them by ordering online.

Truffles to die for

Two additional recent dessert spots that have opened  include Janie’s “Life Changing Baked Goods” at 212 West 80th Street (pie crust cookies) which do ship online as well and Zai’s Dessertery at 468-470 Amsterdam Avenue which is their first location in NYC. They have wonderful French macarons, ice cream, cupcakes and stuffed crepes. They both look like two fabulous places I need to check out asap!

A few more awesome dessert spots opening soon are Chip City Cookies at 370 Columbus Avenue - I have yet to try these cookies but from what I see online, they look pretty amazing!

A second Blue Marble Ice Cream at 2058 Broadway - I am a huge ice cream lover and the Blue Marble is quite tasty indeed!

Maman, at a location which is currently undisclosed. Maman is a very exciting French spot so elegant  for desserts, a light bite to eat and coffees/teas. I have visited their shop in the Nomad area, but only when I was in the city for 4th of July holiday as they were always too busy before. I am glad to see they are opening more locations in other spots in the city so hopefully they will be easier to enjoy. They do ship their cookies, and I have had some sent to me while not being able to get to the city. They are also coming out with a wonderful cookbook September 14th if you wish to check that out. I somehow think I will not be able to create their masterpieces at home but I just may try!

The most amazing banana bread you will ever enjoy !

I hope you all stay healthy and that you can venture back to NYC very soon. The city needs us back just as much as we need it. The city has so much to offer, Broadway - Architecture - Dining - Culture - Art just to name a few! Thank you for following the blog and here's to more wonderful posts about where to go in NYC !

A Visit to Harbs NYC

We are visiting a very interesting cafe/bakery called Harbs NYC which is Japanese. I always find Japanese shops and restaurants always so interesting. They have (2) locations in the city, in Chelsea and the Upper East Side.
Pretty cool no ? I love all the layers
Have you ever seen a chocolate cake that looks like this??
They are almost too elegant to eat. Almost.
Just a work of art that is edible!
We tried the banana creme pie and it was the best I ever tasted!

It was pretty hard to decide on a dessert and I do need to get back soon to try something else.

Harbs NYC serves savory items as well such as salads, sandwiches and pasta dishes. It is for sure a very unique cafe to try while in this fabulous city. I just love finding these cool places that I would never visit at home. Travel is awesome for that type of stuff!

Cookie Charm - One Gift - Two Hearts

As I am sure many are you, I am just addicted to instagram! I find so many cool products on that site, not to mention the nicest people. I came across Cookie Charm and really liked what I saw. The cookies are hand painted, and really lovely designs PLUS they send a portion of your sale to the charity of your choice. I just think that is a brilliant idea, and I felt you would as well. We are always looking for new gift giving ideas, ones that are unique, and this company fits the bill.

Here is some info about Cookie Charm from their website:

I was sent a mix of the butterfly painted cookie in almond (my favorite) flavor, as well as some of the plain cookies in French Sable flavor. The flavors of these cookies is really wonderful. Very rich buttery taste, one with a cup of coffee or tea would make anyone very happy!

They have so many varieties of cookies available, they can even add a LOGO or photo to a cookie. Prices are very reasonable as well, starting from under $10 to over $50. I thought these made a really lovely gift for someone that you are not sure what to purchase, and who doesn't love cookies! The fact that you can also send a portion of your purchase to your favorite charity is the cherry on top!

Please take a peek at their website, Cookie Charm, to see what they have to offer. I think you will be very pleased and find something to your liking!

Disclosure: I was provided the cookies in this post from Cookie Charm for this review. There has been no monetary compensation for this post. I only recommend products that I feel will be of interest to my readers, and that I am truly impressed by. All opinions are my own. Thank you!!

A Quick Visit to The Plaza Food Hall

As most of you know who read this blog often, I just LOVE the Plaza Hotel. One day I will stay there, I just hope it doesn't disappoint as I have very high expectations! I was in the city for an event, and needed some dining that was yummy but quick. I thought of the Plaza Food Hall right away.

How awesome do these bagels with lox look? I love lox and cream cheese on a bagel, pure heaven!

Pumpkin with cinnamon and cream cheese is a very good combination. These are from Billy's Bakery where everything you try is pretty awesome.

Lake Champlain peanut butter cups had me drooling. I just love peanut butter with anything.

Gorgeous truffles make great gifts from La Maison du Chocolat. French folks know how to do chocolate.
I had been dying to try the crepes here for a LONG time. Finally had the chance and they were AMAZING! Vive la Crêpe is here to make everyone happy!

It was very simple - egg, spinach and feta cheese and it just made my morning!

Life was just so good. I cannot wait to get back and try another flavor. The sweet choices are made with Nutella so you can imagine how good they must be!

My Mom loved linzer cookies and I always brought her a few from William Greenberg

Chocolates from Francis Payard are pretty intense!

I decided to try 2 of Billy's Bakery cupcakes - for blogging purposes of course!

This is the pumpkin with cinnamon cream cheese frosting. It was pretty good, the cake part was a bit on the dry side, icing was quite tasty.

This one was my winner of the two, banana cupcake with Nutella frosting. Out of this world!

These dessert selections are insane. Do you even see a Gluten Free chocolate mousse cake? From the amazing pastry chef Daniel Boulud, you feel guilty just a little eating such gorgeous confections.

If you have not been to the Plaza Food Hall, you must very soon. It is a great array of some of the best food makers the city has to offer, all under one roof. Trust me, you will be very happy once you check out the place.

Located on Concourse level, The Plaza Food Hall offers a collection of fine food purveyors, as well as counter-style dining options. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Daily 8:00am for those shops serving breakfast | 11:00am – 8:00pm all Food Hall shops
Until 9:30pm for those that serve late fare or dinner options | Sundays 11:00am – 6:00pm

A Sweet Trip to Dylan's Candy Bar

I don't think I have taken you to Dylan's Candy Bar in a while, so let's go for a sweet ride! Dylan's is owned by Dylan Lauren, daughter of Ralph, and has been open in NYC at this location since 2001. Dylan's favorite movie was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (mine as well) and even had her wedding a "candy" theme!
Lots to see here folks so let's get moving. Did you hear Hello Kitty is not a cat? I think that is rather silly, and love her anyway! Great items here, and I was so good not to purchase any!
Adorable for the fall season, don't you think?
Love the displays at Dylan's and it smells so great in this place!
Everyone needs a pair of candy pants, no ?
You can go crazy with the selection here, and we are only on the first floor!
Love this !!
More cute Halloween cookies!
I was never a fan of the gummy candies, and with the selection here, that is a good thing!
Is it possible to have a pretty skull cookie? Yes it is !!
The bark candy is really good and she has so many various flavors.
Never was a peep fan, but if you dip them in chocolate, I might be !

Sriracha Chocolate Licorice - Hot stuff !
Gee, I never saw so many pretty skulls in all my life! Too cute !
We are heading downstairs now
Lots of NYC items to take home to family and friends
Okay, I LOVED these but kept my cool and did not purchase any of them
Everyone needs chocolate iced doughnut earrings, don't they?
So cute !!
I really wish they would start making neat phone covers for the Samsung line. These are really sweet!
You must have fudge in a candy shop!
These cakes made out of candy would be fun at any party!
How pretty is this one?
Sorry for the blurry on this photo, but since I love Kit Kat, had to show you
Looks like a wedding cake!!
Chocolate covered pretzels are great but you add sprinkles and you have something really special !
The candy counter downstairs is pretty good, I must say
I am a big fan of coconut and these looked fabulous
How can you not choose an item here? Impossible!
Homemade chocolate covered graham crackers are always better than store bought
Of course they have a chocolate waterfall, makes perfect sense
A really fun store
I love popping in here every so often. They do sell online as well, but I hate to pay the shipping for the chocolate items. If you are a candy lover, I would say this is a must stop when in the city!!
