Yummy Halloween cakes by the amazing Black Hound NYC would be great to take to a party !!

whoever says the Upper East Side is stuffy should have seen these great Halloween displays
this looks like it's going to be a really good one here .....
stuffy...no...creative...yes...love the little guy in what looks like a bathtub...could have done without the leg but hey, it is Halloween !!
people really spent a lot of time on this and they are just amazing
Katie's Paperie is one of the most lovely stores in the city and this window was fabulous!!
love, love this guy on the great red door !!

This post is another fine example of just going to a neighborhood and being suprised! I did not expect to find these neat decorations for a great Halloween post but when I came across them, I was so thrilled! Sometimes the best part about NYC is the unpredictable piece of it. It pays to take one day of your vacation in the city and do not plan a thing. Just walk and see what you find....you will be amazed. I promise.

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween Everyone !!!!

Photo Gallery Tuesday " Canelé by Céline "

Canelé by Céline made a visit to the Le Taste of France in September. These little fabulous cakes called Canelés and Financiers pack quite a punch. Here is the lowdown on what they taste like

canelé is a small French pastry with a soft and tender custard center and a dark, thick caramelized crust. The dessert, which is in the shape of small, striated cylinder approximately two inches in height, is a specialty of the Bordeaux region of France but can often be found in Parisian patisseries as well. Made from eggsugarmilk and flour flavored with rum and vanilla, the custard batter is baked in a mold, giving the canelé a caramelized crust and custard-like inside.

financier is a small French cake, often mistaken for a pastry. The financier is a light and moist, similar to sponge cake, and usually contains almond flour, crushed or ground almonds, or almond flavoring. The distinctive feature of the recipe is beurre noisette (brown butter).[1] Other ingredients include egg whites, flour, and powdered sugar. Financiers are baked in shaped molds, usually small rectangular loaves similar in size to petits fours.[1]

Which one would you like to try, or if you have tried both, is your favorite? I love financiers, they are so tasty and not too sweet. I need to try a canelé yet, and hope to do so soon in one of the great french pastry shops in the city.

**Just a little note with this terrible storm this week, hope everyone is safe and secure. Remember that "things" can be replaced, but "people" cannot. Stay safe out there.

Top 5 Serving Dishes to Impress at your Dinner Party

If you want to impress at your next dinner party you should know that this requires more than great food. People coming to a meal at your house will expect gracious hosting, quality meals and an attractive setting. This means a beautifully set table with candles, matching wine glasses, table runners and good looking serving dishes.

There are plenty of serving dishes, plates and ramekins to serve your meal with, and the following are 5 of the best, in case you need to stock up your kitchen:

1) Casserole dishes
There are some quality casserole dishes that are useful for more than just cooking in the oven. They are also ideal for serving your delicious food to guests at the table, as there are some attractive dishes to choose from.

2) Ramekins
Ramekins are also great for serving food at the table, whether you are serving small portions of vegetables or sauces, or individual desserts such as crème brulees.

3) Set 3 piece serving dishes
A set of 3 serving dishes is a very worthy investment for dinner parties and there are some stylish dishes to choose from. Select a colour that will match your dining room and let your guests enjoy the flair and artistry with which you decorate your table and serve your food.

4) Oval oven to table dish
If you are serving up a curry, a roast joint or a casserole, a large oval oven to table dish is perfect and there are some attractive dishes on sale in various shops. Take a look at the serving dishes at Pro Cook to prepare for your next dinner party and you should be able to have a lovely evening – provided you can cook that is!

5) Circular pie dish
Everyone loves a delicious pie and this is a great repast to cook for guests at a dinner party. And to serve your pie in style, you should invest in a nice circular pie dish, so that your meal looks as good as it tastes.

A Visit to the Central Park Zoo

Central Park is a great place for families to visit in the city. It can be an inexpensive day out and yet fun for everyone. If you were not aware, there is a Central Park Zoo, 6.5 acres of some pretty cool animals. The park was actually opened in 1860, and in 1934 it was modified with more buildings. In the mid 1980's it was renovated again and re-opened in 1988, with more natural environments for the animals.
I have been meaning to get here in forever, and on a day during the week while in the city, a gorgeous day, I decided this was the day. The sea lions were not too photogenic, which did not make me too happy!
What a life, just swimming around, people smiling at you and then throwing you food. That would be great for me, if I knew how to swim, of course!
He was having way too much fun
These cute little ducks were napping in the middle of the day.
These guys were pretty neat looking, I love the colors on their feathers.
It was so darn sunny, and these Snow Monkeys would not get any closer to me.
Some areas were so calm and serene, you forget you are in New York City. While I was sitting on a bench, prior to going into the zoo, a lady next to me started talking to me. She was visiting the city, and I said I was heading to the zoo. She had no clue there was a zoo about a foot away from her! So she was going to take a walk in with her daughter. I love informing people of new information!!
Okay, so there are many animals at this zoo like Polar Bears (did not get to them sadly enough), Red Pandas, Snow Leopards, a Tropic Zoo and Penguins with Sea Birds. Let me say, the admission is worth it alone to see Penguins in person. This was my first time seeing them, and I felt like I was 5 years old again !!
The types that are here are King Penguins, one of the largest and deepest diving of the penguin family.
They just really took my breathe away...are they not ADORABLE !!
This was one of my best shots. They are behind a plastic wall, and it's not very clean, so it was hard to get some shots but I just kept shooting figuring some would come out. They all look so darn busy in this photo!!
Ahhh, another cute shot....they are just so darn chubby! I wonder if they like Italian food? I know fish is a favorite cuisine of theirs.
This zoo is a real treat and fun for everyone, not just families. I would think on weekends it is pretty busy, but during the week, you probably won't have too many crowds.
I totally enjoyed my day and I can't stop talking about those penguins! I would highly suggest you visit the next time in NYC and looking for something new you have not done before, or in the city for the first time. It is a truly wonderful experience!!
