MAY 9 TO AUGUST 14TH 2013
The Met's spring 2013 Costume Institute exhibition, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, will examine punk's impact on high fashion from the movement's birth in the early 1970s through its continuing influence today. Featuring approximately one hundred designs for men and women, the exhibition will include original punk garments and recent, directional fashion to illustrate how haute couture and ready-to-wear borrow punk's visual symbols.

Focusing on the relationship between the punk concept of "do-it-yourself" and the couture concept of "made-to-measure," the seven galleries will be organized around the materials, techniques, and embellishments associated with the anti-establishment style. Themes will include New York and London, which will tell punk's origin story as a tale of two cities, followed by Clothes for Heroes and four manifestations of the D.I.Y. aesthetic—Hardware, Bricolage, Graffiti and Agitprop, and Destroy.

Presented as an immersive multimedia, multisensory experience, the clothes will be animated with period music videos and soundscaping audio techniques.

Every year the costume institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art displays an amazing exhibit of stellar fashion. An unforgettable experience for those who adore fashion, students of design, collectors of unique and vintage pieces. This year is no different, with Punk: Chaos to Couture, and I am sure will be quite stunning and eye opening! Punk was a music genre that began between 1974 and 1976 in the USA, United Kingdom and Australia. Some of the names we think of when we think of the Punk generation is: The Clash, The Sex Pistons, and The Ramones.
Be sure to check out this fabulous exhibit as it is only open for 3 months. I am sure you will not be disappointed as the Metropolitan Museum of Art knows what they are doing.

sadly the theme did not translate well and the majority of the attendees were dressed in beautiful evening attire that was anything but punk ... even her highness An-na Win-tour's dress looked like a tailored muumuu .. seriously .. no idea what she was thinking
I did see the Met Ball gowns Could have taken a few more risks Interesting exhibit I think for the Met.
