Afternoon Tea in Felt Art

I had the pleasure of visiting felt artist Lucy Sparrow's exhibit in 2019 Lucy's Delicatessen on 6th and was totally blow away! I must say this post is in no way an ad but I needed to show you the wonderful art she has for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee! I found Lucy on Instagram and was so thrilled to see the exhibit in New York City a few years ago. When I walked through it, I just smiled from ear to ear. I totally feel in this time, with so much going on in the world, we need something to make us smile. Lucy's felt art does just that, and I have been ordering more items from her online store for my collection.

Queen Elizabeth II has celebrated her Platinum Jubilee this weekend, 70 years on the British throne, more than any other British monarch. I do follow the royal family and it's history which I find fascinating. Lucy's current project is that of an Afternoon Tea in felt art. I was totally blown away so had to order immediately! The items are just so sweet and make you smile from ear to ear! After I had ordered, I found out she was going to be having an exhibit at the grand entrance of Buckingham Palace which is open to the public July 22, 2022 to October 2, 2022. If you happen to be in England during this time, I highly suggest you visit. You will not be disappointed. Now on to the inspect the art !

The lovely little guys are sitting on a 3 tier cake plate from Royal Albert. The top consists of a Victoria Sponge Slice, quiche and French fancy yellow.

Does this not make you smile ?? Sausage rolls, half scones with cream/jam, bakewell tart bottom layer: salmon sandwich, cinnamon roll (from another of her collections seemed to fit in here), Viennese swirl, jammie dodger and a black and white cookie from another collection.

The tea cup with saucer is actually a real tea cup and saucer that the felt has been molded around. It is just so lovely and I added a lemon slice on the side. The tea cup comes off the saucer.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing these wonderful pieces of art that are made with such love and detail. I will be adding more of Lucy's art to my home as it just really makes for a pleasant day! You can check our her website and follow her work on Instagram. If you do not purchase anything, but just look at the art work, it will still bring you so much joy. I think that is so what is needed in the world right now. I must thank Lucy for her wonderful work and her talent that we all have the privilege to enjoy!!

Wayne Thiebaud Draftsman

This is a real fun post and one of my favorite artists, Wayne Thiebaud, exhibit at The Morgan Library and Museum last year. I was so thrilled to see this exhibit in one of my favorite museums in the city.

I was first introduced to Wayne Thiebaud's work, at Christies, this Tie Rack painting was for sale in 2015. The estimate was $1.4-$1.8 million US dollars and it sold for $3.4 million US dollars! The piece attracted me due to the colors, I love color, and just the method in how it was painted. When I got home I researched his work, only to find even more paintings I just loved. Mr. Thiebaud was born in 1920 and is still alive today. I find his work brings a smile to my face, and I am so thrilled to share this exhibit with you!
Even this simple work is just so darn wonderful

Love, love, love this one

This is very cool as well even though not much color is used, if any

Loved this one as well of a city street

How can you not fall in love with this work?

Mr. Thiebaud has said all his paintings are done from memory - pretty darn amazing if you ask me!
This one would make Willy Wonka or Dylan Lauren very happy!

After viewing these lovely works, nothing is more relaxing than some fried oysters at The Morgan Library restaurant. They were quite the tasty, I must say!

I hope you enjoyed this exhibit and be sure to Google Mr. Thiebaud's work to see more fantastic paintings. I purchased a print from the show and now have it hanging in my dining room. It makes me smile every time I walk by.

American Art at Christie's New York

I popped into Christie's in November for their American Art auction preview. It didn't disappoint in the least. I just love this place and there is no entrance fee to go in and view auctions prior to sale.

Estimate $4,000,000 to $6,000,000
Price Realised $7,287,500 US Dollars

This was my first time seeing Norman Rockwell paintings in person, and I must say, they are really quite lovely. I am actually looking into taking an art history type class this year in the city since I see so many of these works in person. I would like to have an even better appreciation of this art. This one sold for well above the estimate, which I am not too surprised.

Price realised $200,000 US Dollars

I really loved this one, it was small in size but had so much beauty. I was not shocked it went over the estimate value.

Price Realised $996,500 US Dollars

This one was really just so lovely. I enjoyed looking at it for some time.

Price realised $2,292,500 US Dollars

Price realised $250,000 US Dollars

How cool is this painting? I just loved it, it looks like they are going to move? I love the outfits on the people, the men's hat's and the newspapers over their heads. A truly wonderful piece of artwork.

Price realised $50,000 US Dollars

Price realised $106,250 US Dollars

This was a really gorgeous painting and I LOVED the dress on the lady! Look at that waist! I love the neckline, the bows at the shoulders and waist. This dress could be worn today and it would look just wonderful! The painting was made in 1890-1891, that is quite a long time ago, but still oh so chic!

I really think this is a young George Washington but I could be wrong. I couldn't find the info card that tells you who painted it and what it was. I still felt it is a marvelous painting and had to share it with you!

Michelangelo Divine Draftsman and Designer Press Preview

I had the privilege of attending the press event last Monday for the wonderful Michelangelo Divine Draftsman and Designer. It is for sure going to be one popular exhibit especially during this holiday season.
My favorite building with all the beautiful detail across from the museum is in the background

Exhibition Overview from the Met Website
Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564), a towering genius in the history of Western art, is the subject of this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition. During his long life, Michelangelo was celebrated for the excellence of his disegno, the power of drawing and invention that provided the foundation for all the arts. For his mastery of drawing, design, sculpture, painting, and architecture, he was called Il Divino ("the divine one") by his contemporaries. His powerful imagery and dazzling technical virtuosity transported viewers and imbued all of his works with a staggering force that continues to enthrall us today.

This exhibition presents a stunning range and number of works by the artist: 133 of his drawings, three of his marble sculptures, his earliest painting, his wood architectural model for a chapel vault, as well as a substantial body of complementary works by other artists for comparison and context. Among the extraordinary international loans are the complete series of masterpiece drawings he created for his friend Tommaso de' Cavalieri and a monumental cartoon for his last fresco in the Vatican Palace. Selected from 50 public and private collections in the United States and Europe, the exhibition examines Michelangelo's rich legacy as a supreme draftsman and designer.

This was breathtaking in person

The detail in this piece is mind blowing - so beautiful

A very beautiful piece of work, even though unfinished

This was my favorite of the sketches, and I guess I choose correctly as they had it on many items for sale in the store. The detail he creates with the body, each muscle, is quite remarkable.

A recreation of the Sistine Chapel left people in awe

Michelangelo Buonarroti (Italian, 1475–1564). Apollo-David (unfinished), c. 1530. Marble, H. 146 cm (57 1/2 in.). Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence (Sculture 1879, no. 121)

Another piece that just left me speechless

You can actually view Michelangelo's handwriting which was beautiful as well

You are going to want to RUN to see this exhibit. It is truly a remarkable collection of Michelangelo's work and we are quite lucky to be able to view in the USA!
