Grand Bazaar Opening June 6, 2021

Happy Monday everyone! Wonderful news to report that the fantastic Grand Bazaar on the Upper West Side is reopening June 6th. This awesome market has indoor and outdoor vendors but I believe they will be just starting with the outdoor for now, they do have a very big space for the vendors. The market donates 100% of it's proceeds to local public schools, which it has done since it's inception founded as the Green Flea in 1982. The name changed to Grand Bazaar in 2016.

This was actually one of the last places I visited when in the city February 2020 before everything locked down. Little did I know at the time, I would not be back wandering around the best city in the world for over a year!

You can find a wonderful array of items here - vintage jewelry, handbags, local artists and designers. On a gorgeous weather day on a Sunday, it is the perfect place to be. Here are some of the cool items I have seen while visiting the Grand Bazaar.

Just love these coats !!

They normally have food but not sure when that will be back this year
These were quite heavenly

Gorgeous handbags as I do collect them you know
New or vintage usually catch my eye

Vintage Jewelry to blow your mind

I purchased one of the initial necklaces for $15 and have been seeing almost the same item on Nordstrom website for much more money

I wanted these glasses in the worst way but wasn't sure I could get them home in one piece

Be sure to add this fantastic place on your NYC to do list !! A great way to spend a lazy Sunday in the city!

I LOVE Louis Comfort Tiffany anything - especially his gorgeous stained glass lamps. When I popped in Christie's in December, I was thrilled to see some amazing lamps available for sale. If money were no object, I would for sure be purchasing one of these gems. To be honest, I probably would buy more than 1 ! Let's read about some history of this most talented man.

Some history on Louis Comfort Tiffany from Christie's website:

Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) — not to be confused with his father Charles Tiffany, who founded the renowned jewellery house Tiffany & Company — was an artist, decorator and designer. ‘After successful careers as a painter and interior decorator, Louis decided to shift focus onto the design and production of stained glass windows,’ explains Beth Vilinsky, Design specialist at Christie’s in New York. ‘His leaded glass lamps were a natural offshoot. His factory, located in Queens, New York, produced these and a wide variety of other decorative objects for almost 40 years.’

Tiffany hired some of the finest artisans in the United States to realise his aesthetic vision in leaded glass. Lampshade construction was a laborious process, with each small section of glass carefully selected from the thousands of sheets available to the men and women in the cutting departments. ‘The finest lampshades exhibit a wonderful harmony of diverse colours, with subtle tones in an intricate pattern,’ says Vilinsky.

The dragonfly lamp is a classic design

This lamp was just gorgeous in person, I cannot explain how wonderful it is to see one of these in person. I could stare at it for hours, I don't think Christie's would be thrilled with that fact!

Corning Museum of Glass Gift Shop

We are back at the fantastic Corning Museum of Glass today, hitting their gift shop. As you know, I LOVE museum gift shops, and this one didn't disappoint. My only issue was you have to look at what you are purchasing as some items in the store were made in China. That had me a bit upset, they really should be carrying all items Made in USA.
Very pretty paperweights which I purchased for a good friend.
I just love the colors, they make you happy!
Really gorgeous perfume bottles

These were really cool, I believe that is real gold inside that design. I would hope so for $5000.00.
This totally blew my mind. These are all made out of glass, so so darn
amazing!
John Miller is a pretty talented guy!
How can you not smile when you see these?

If money were no object, what a heck of a great gift!

How lucky I was to find this cool video of Mr. Miller making an oversized, calorie free, donut!
If you have the time to watch this, is it pretty incredible what they can do with glass!
I just really love it !

Beecher's Cheese Shop

The flatiron district is one of my favorite areas of New York City. It is easy to get to for me, and within walking distance of midtown. The architecture is gorgeous, as well as the shops and restaurants.
Beecher's Cheese Shop opened recently, and I had to give you a peek inside.
Some history from Beecher's website:
A cheese lover since childhood, Kurt Beecher Dammeier remembers encouraging his mother to buy premium cheese at a time when processed cheese was overtaking the market; and he recalls his great-grandfather, whose first name was Beecher, purchasing Stilton by the wheel.

In 2003, Kurt put his passion for artisan cheese into action and opened the first Beecher’s shop in the heart of Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Eight years later, he took his award-winning cheeses on the road with a new cheese kitchen, café and restaurant open in New York City's Flatiron District…

There is so much selection here, they are well known for their artisan cheddar cheese

You have a great selection of salami and various meats to compliment your cheese purchases
Decisions, decisions

They claim to have the "world's best" mac and cheese, you can purchase it to take home from their fridge in the shop. My Mom loved mac and cheese, I tried to make it for her once, but didn't work out too well. I need to try this next time I am in the shop!
So much homemade goodness here, it is so nice to see and enjoy! You can see the cheeses being made right in this shop through their large windows which I think is so cool. If you are a lover of good food, and cheese in general, you really need to make a stop here when in the flatiron area.
