2011 Chocolate Fashion Show Tribute to Ch'inglish

Our next gorgeous dress from the 2011 Chocolate Fashion Show in New York City in November is a tribute to Ch'inglish by Jansen Chan (Oceana) and Anita Yavich (Costume Designer, Ch'inglish and Venus in Fur). This dress looked like it could be worn to a lovely event in the city, just really beautiful. I love the gold and red color mixed together. The headpiece is pretty amazing as well.

Still feel they are so much better viewed with a real model in them ...........

Thank you to Pepperidge Farm !!

This post just had to be written. From when I was little, Pepperidge Farm has always been something my family has loved. I was shocked to see on their website they are in business since 1937 and started by one lady named Margaret Rudkin. You can read some of the history HERE. Twitter has become a big part of NYC, Style and a little Cannoli. We now have over 700 followers and steady growth is daily. I am so thrilled with all the new people being introduced to the blog and meeting wonderful new friends as well. One day I was thinking, milano, as in cookie, and did a tweet about how wonderful they are. Low and behold, Pepperidge Farm contacted me about how thrilled they were with my tweet and would like to send me a Thank You gift. I figured, oh a few boxes maybe would be awesome. Here is what I received:
24 boxes plus a hand written note! What class from a company that is old-school and will be around I am sure for many years to come!!

Photo Gallery Tuesday "Italian American Museum"

A trip to Little Italy in New York City should also be a trip to the Italian American Museum on Mulberry Street. Here is some information from their website:

The Italian American Museum is now located in its permanent home at 155 Mulberry Street in the heart of New York’s “Little Italy”. This historic location on the corner of Mulberry and Grand Streets once housed “Banca Stabile” which was founded by Francesco Rosario Stabile in 1885. During its heyday, the bank offered the newly arrived immigrants from Italy much more than financial services. It was a link for the Immigrants in the United States with their relatives in Italy. In addition to a full range of banking services, it also provided the following services: telegraph, travel via steam ships, import-export, notary public, and post office; a kind of all in one immigrant community service center. It has been restored and preserved, and is now open to the public. It now serves as the cornerstone of the Italian American Museum from which we will tell our story in America.

The Italian American Museum was born on June 12, 2001 when it was officially chartered under the aegis of the University of the State of New York, Education Department as a museum. The purposes of which, are to establish and maintain a museum dedicated to Italian Americans.

The aims and goals of the Italian American Museum are as follows:
  • To establish and maintain a museum dedicated to the struggles of Italian Americans and their achievements and contributions to American culture and society;
  • To collect, own, hold, preserve, exhibit, and interpret a collection of appropriate objects;
  • To gather and preserve memorabilia, reminiscences, oral histories, documents and other appropriate material in an archive and library;
  • To sponsor lectures, symposia, musical programs, film, festivals, theater, and art exhibitions; and
  • To raise public awareness and appreciation of the accomplishments and contributions of Italian Americans to the American way of life. (New York State Charter, June 12, 2001)

It offers a unique insight in many areas of Italian culture. Please try to stop if in the area as I am sure it will be quite a treat!!

My Own Downton Abbey Theme Party!!

If you have not heard about the PBS series Downton Abbey, you are missing quite a lot. I am highly fond of the British dramas of the Edwardian period. After some research of the real Downton Abbey, filmed at Highclere Castle, I was surprised to find it was once owned by Earl Carnavon, who helped discover the tomb of King Tut along with Howard Carter. It is quite a small world, I must say.
the fabulous fashion
the romance
the evil sister with great hairstyle
gorgeous jewelry abounds

So when I read an article on the NY Times about people having Downton Abbey parties during the show, I thought what a grand idea! You can do it pretty simple and still make it fun. You can read the fabulous article HERE. Now for my little Downton party:

Scones are usually a good idea, you can purchase them at a good grocery store if you feel baking your own is a bit much work
Wonderful creme for your scones, you can also use jelly as well
 A soup is nice to serve, we have italian wedding soup brewing on the stove but this is a soup served at one of the many teas we have attended. I love the idea of soup in a tea cup, very elegant and just the right amount.
I made little heart sandwiches with a cookie cutter and ham salad. You can use any type of salad such as egg or chicken or make the famous cucumber sandwiches. Whatever you like is what you should have.
We are also doing a spinach and artichoke dip with wheat crackers
Desserts can be whatever you like really but small is the idea. I cut up some pumpkin and chocolate whoopie pies and some milano cookies in the middle.
Mini cannoli may not have been around in Edwardian England, but maybe in Italy they had some for dessert! Again, whatever you like, I feel you should have. It is all about a fun night to enjoy a fabulous show.

For more on the real Downton Abbey, Lady Almina, take a peek HERE. Are you addicted to the show too? What do you think about having a theme dinner during the show?
