Throwback Thursday "The Original Penn Station"

A fantastic photograph of the original Penn Station designed by McKim, Mead and White which unfortunately was demolished in 1963. Opened in 1910, it was a most grand place and an architectural jewel of New York City. There is so much detail in this photo, what a treasure!! It was one of the first rail terminals to separate arriving from departing passengers on two concourses. I just love the way the light comes through the ceiling. Thank goodness for photographs to preserve these places even after they are no longer with us.
