The Great Gatsby Celebration at The Plaza Hotel

The Great Gatsby film is opening very soon. It is adapted from the F. Scott Fitzgerald book released in 1925, is considered by some the greatest American novel ever. Elegance, love, the Jazz Age and Art Deco are some of the characteristics of this classic. The movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, is causing a frenzy of Gatsby related items. Tiffany and Co. have fabulous Gatsby windows with gorgeous jewelry pieces to enjoy and Brooks Brothers is showing a Gatsby themed collection. Since The Plaza is one of my favorite places to visit when in the city, as well as it's wonderful Food Hall, I thought I would highlight for you some of the chic events they are having to co-inside with the film opening. I just love the Art Deco ads for the events. I think they are so wonderful to frame, I would buy them poster size if they were available!!

The Plaza celebrates the Roaring '20s with period-inspired affairs this spring, in honor of its role in Baz Luhrmann's new film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's “The Great Gatsby”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan. The film opens in theaters on May 10, 2013.

The Plaza’s history is intrinsically tied to this timeless American novel and its author F. Scott Fitzgerald, who, with his wife Zelda, was a devoted patron of The Plaza. Epitomizing the Lost Generation, Fitzgerald’s exploits were notorious and he regularly drew inspiration from everyday life for his novels. The hotel’s enduring presence on the New York social scene made it a natural setting for the most climactic scene in the novel and the upcoming film. This spring, guests and visitors can embrace the Jazz Age with a collection of experiences throughout The Plaza.

This menu from the Todd English Food Hall is quite fabulous and I hope to try it next time I am in the city.

The various places in The Plaza Food Hall are just winners all around. They have fabulous selections to celebrate The Great Gatsby film opening.

The Palm Court is also holding a Fitzgerald Tea for the Ages and if you love to attend teas, this would be highly recommended by myself. Here is some info from The Plaza's website on the history of The Palm Court:

From the moment the doors opened in 1907, The Plaza became an international icon of splendor and luxury. With a heritage rich in history and history-making events, The Plaza is unmatched. Long a part of Plaza tradition, the romantic and timeless Palm Court has served as a setting for scenes in many popular novels and films, most notably, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.

Carved from within the great castle-like landmark, The Palm Court has been lovingly restored to its original grandeur following a $6.5 million dollar renovation completed in 2008. The spectacular re-creation of the Palm Court’s luminous 1,800 square foot stained-glass lay light, like The Plaza itself, continues to contribute to the life, vitality and culture of New York City.

A famous tradition at The Plaza, the Afternoon Tea service blends an innovative menu with a formal tea to provide guests a balance of service and flavorful cuisine. The tea menu is under the artful guidance of Chef Johnny Franco and Pastry Chef, Jasmina Bojic who have infused Afternoon Tea – a timeless classic, – with a contemporary flair. A seamless fusion of traditional and modern and a passion for uncompromising service combine to create an experience that is indulgent, exquisite and truly unforgettable.

The Plaza is definitely abuzz with all things Gatsby! I was there last week and they have costumes and sets on display in the lobby. Such an iconic hotel and one of the best American novels - I hope the movie does them justice. Oh...and I like the original cover, but I am classicist!

Have a great weekend, Rosemary...HUGS to you and your mom!
