Afternoon Tea at The Plaza Hotel's Palm Court

My visit to the city during December was one cold day! We had reservations at the Plaza hotel for afternoon tea and were very excited. We seem to be making the rounds of all the tea service in the city, it's a fun job!! The Palm Court is really beautiful and full of so much history. The Plaza Hotel itself had a $450 million, three year restoration, and upon completion the Palm Court reopened launching the afternoon tea.
The gorgeous Christmas tree in the lobby of the hotel ........
the piano player came back while we were having tea which made it lots of fun
while we were awaiting to sit for tea ( reservation was for 4 but we didn't sit until 430 so give yourself plenty of time for your tea) I realized how this historic room has been around since 1907
It's original name was the "Tea Room" and has been a New York destination for decades serving many politicians, dignitaries, celebrities, and New York socials ..........
we definitely felt like we were taken back in time with just the awe of this room
the 1,800 square foot stained glass laylight had a million dollar restoration all on it's own! and had not been seen for 50 years ...really just takes your breathe away.......
I feel for those who need to clean these ....but they are really beautiful
we sat by those large windows so everyone could see us .......
There are 4 tea choices...The Classic, The New Yorker, Chocolate and Eloise ......
a glass of bubbly to toast the holidays is necessary!!
my Earl Grey was so excellent - the Plaza also has it's own signature blend tea which my friend had and said it was really wonderful...they sell the tea in the basement if you wish to take some home to family and friends
spreads for our scones
they were so tasty ....really excellent .....
We both went for the New Yorker (are you shocked??) The little Roast Beef sandwich was so tasty we couldn't stand it !!
desserts were amazing as well and we even had cannoli .....seemed to have a gingerbread flavor for the holiday
another view of that gorgeous ceiling .......
The teas are $45 per person and with champagne or sherry an additional $20 per glass ...We were very happy with this tea and I would love to try the Chocolate Tea (this tea is $55 per person but is large enough to serve 2 people) We also left here pretty full as this was our dinner so we would do this again, would be fun with a larger group of friends but also great for you and your best friend as well.........
Hope you enjoyed the Afternoon Tea at the historic Plaza Hotel !!

Just Lovely! I have not been inside The Plaza since the renovation and it looks like they kept it in tact. I'm glad to see that. As for the tea, what can be said, looks scrumptious!!! I'm an Eloise fan myself! ;-)

I've walked around the Plaza few times after the renovations and totally love it. What a great afternoon they have! Those scones with all those spreads got me craving for some. Must try this soon!

Delightful! Going out for tea is one of my very most absolutely favorite things... when we lived in San Francisco, I made the rounds of all the hotels and Neimann Marcus's tea room at the old City of Paris shop... enjoy!!
