US Open Tennis August 30 to September 12, 2010

I am getting very excited for the US Open tennis to start in the wonderful Flushing Meadows, New York!! I cannot believe it is a few weeks away already and hope the weather is nice, not too humid and no rain. Last year it was really gorgeous every day I attended the tournament. I have been attending since 1994 and it is always a great tournament. One of the 4 "Grand Slams" as they call in tennis - it is the last major of the year. I have been lucky to obtain some great photos of the players with my camera and would like to share some faves with you......

this was my start to digital cameras ....Dinara Safina of Russia at the 2008 US Open.. olympus gave out cameras to try for a few hours, copied your photos on a disk and you got to take them home. it really gave me a taste of what I could do with digital....I was still shooting film at this time.....

one of my first and best shots of Andre Agassi...being in the right place at the right time made it work very well ....

this one from 1999 of Andre is great with the ball in the air ...tennis is a fun sport to photograph....

Maria Sharapova during a doubles match at the 2004 US Open .....

the Davis Cup trophy in 2008 was sitting at the tennis center as the USA was the winner of the tournament in 2007. Davis Cup is country against country and has been around since 1900 as a challenge between Great Britain and the USA. Men only compete but the woman have Fed Cup for their international competition.

a very young Venus Williams in 2000...the girl is all legs really....

Novak Djokovic from Serbia at the 2007 US Open first round match

James Blake of the USA during a match in Louis Armstrong Stadium....

Fernando Verdasco from Spain 2008 US Open..nickname is Hot Sauce...

the line to get in around 930am is quite long but it moves pretty fast

gorgeous horses patrol the grounds of Corona Park, just outside the tennis center

Serena Williams at practice in 2006...she is going for the record books these days with all her grand slam titles ......

newly retired, former world #1 and 2 time Grand Slam champion Marat Safin smiling at practice... he brought a lot of excitement to the game...

Grey Goose is a sponsor of the US Open and makes these adorable drinks...looks like tennis balls floating in the glass...tastes good after a hot day of walking around the grounds.......

This tournament is really a lot of fun being that it takes place about a half hour drive from Manhattan. You can see some tennis and still head back to the city for a show or some shopping. The first week is the best I feel to attend as there are so many matches going on and if you purchase a grounds pass, you can see quite a variety of players. I am pulling for Rafael Nadal this year as it is the only grand slam he has not won and well, he needs to have this trophy in his cabinet!! Nothing is more exciting that seeing tennis live and these pros are amazing at what they can do. If you get the chance to attend this tournament or any other on the ATP or WTA tour, give it a try. I think you will get hooked!!

I am also routing for Nadal and looking forward to seeing the play of the new and improved Mardy Fish.
