More of the Walking Tour with Bob Sarlin

As I looked through my photos of our walking tour, I thought...this needs a second post..we did see a heck of a lot in 2 hours..put on your shoes as here we go.....

Judson Memorial Church

originally constructed in 1889 to celebrate George Washington's centennial, Mckim Mead & White's original design was rebuilt in marble in 1891 - 

a little private street a block up from Washington Square Park

one of the homes here sold for 5.5 million last year

the detail is amazing...even if no central air conditioning!!

we have not seen desserts in some time so this was in Corrado, the original bakery in the village where a branch is also at Grand Central Terminal

are you going to be sure to stop there when visiting NYC?

because you would miss all this........

I hope Bob and I have made you excited about the village. It is a great place to spend the day and just walk and explore. You never know what you may find.

A Walking Tour of Greenwich Village

A few weeks ago I had my charity bus trip to the city. It was a great day, weather was perfect and we were to be in the village most of the morning/afternoon. A lucky 8 of us had a walking tour of the village lined up with Bob Sarlin whose blog titled A Walker in NYC is on my blog listing. Bob is a lifelong resident of NYC and is a licensed NYC tour guide. I have been to the city a zillion times and just starting to explore the village. Many tourists tend to stay in mid town which is a real shame because they are missing the "real" nyc. I cannot suggest to you stronger to try a walking tour. It was so wonderful to have someone take you places that maybe you would not go on your own and tell you what you are actually looking at. Whether you are new to the city or have been there many times like myself, walking tours have something to offer everyone. Here is a bit of our tour: 

We started in Christopher Park, Bob was keeping everyone's attention!!

sorry Bob I don't remember the name of this building but it was gorgeous and on Bleecker Street

Judson Memorial Church was amazing.....built as a memorial to Adoniram Judson - the first American baptist missionary in Asia and funded in part by John D Rockefeller Bler

it is one of the most elegant works of Stanford White, a great american architect from the Gilded Age. I am obsessed with the Gilded Age and the movie The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing from 1955 is the story of his untimely death in 1906.

what a view this was!! we were walking along and all of a sudden there it was The Empire State Building against that very blue sky...gorgeous!!

sometimes the signs in NYC are very interesting..I wonder who gives the best back rub for men or women?? 

this was a 2 hour walk so we saw quite a bit...MacDougal Street was great

the mani and pedi sign above Gray's Papaya interested me more than the hot dog place, I must tell you !!

Washington Square Park - just so relaxing and wonderful 

so if you are wondering is a walking tour worth it - I would say a big Yes ! Bob can custom your tour to what area you would like to see and can do groups a bit larger than ours. I have to say 8 was a nice number and not too hard to keep everyone together. My friends and co-workers really enjoyed the tour and were very happy to be a part of it.
