Holiday Gifts from The Savory Pantry

With the holiday season in full swing, I thought I would remind you about our friends at The Savory Pantry for some gift baskets. We all have those family or friends that we just do not know what gift to purchase. When you know folks that are foodies, that is so easy, as a gift basket is a great idea. I have given and received them, and it is wonderful both ways.

With The Savory Pantry, they can help you set up a custom basket, or you can pick items from their website, along with your basket type/size and your gift is ready to be shipped. I always love giving gifts that are unique, it just makes it all that special. Let's take a peek at some items that caught my interest :

Our gift specialists are standing by to help you create a signature gift designed with your recipient in mind! Choose from one of our beautiful baskets or gift boxes, fill it with things you know they'll love, and let us do the rest. We will further customize your gift by including your hand-written gift card, business card, or company merchandise or logo. No need for stress.....we've got you covered! Nominal customization charges apply. Call us toll-free for details: 1-877-426-4887.

This Stuart and Co. Spice Rub is new and looks fabulous. Brooklyn's Stuart & Co. combines tarragon - a perfect complement to fish - with other organic ingredients from local farmers in their classic rub for fish. Grilled, baked, or broiled.....this works very well. They also make rubs for pork, beef or fowl.

I love honey, but when I saw this flavor combo, it drew my attention. Since 1858, the Iacovanelli family has been one of Italy's leading producers of honey. Raw, organic and unfiltered, their Rosemary Honey has an intense herbal profile, typical of Mediterranean honeys. Ideal for cheese plates, baking, toast and pastries.

Since I am such a fan of honey mustard, this spicy one from Stonewall Kitchen sounds very interesting. The right balance of sweet and spicy is found in Stonewall Kitchen Spicy Honey Mustard. A new twist on an old classic, it's the perfect dipping mustard for pretzels. You will love it with shrimp and chicken, and for adding zesty flavor to sandwiches and dips calling for mustard! -

There is nothing like fresh pasta. We made gnocchi at home, but mostly bought all other pasta we enjoyed. Since the early 1900's, Rustichella d'Abruzzo pastas have been crafted from two simple ingredients: stone ground durum wheat and pure spring water. Their Lemon Fettuccine has the addition of eggs, lemon extract and lemon peel.

Named after the guitar strings with which it was originally cut, this traditional shape is rectangular and thinner than spaghetti. With a great surface for catching sauce, Rustichella d'Abruzzo Lemon Fettuccine is wonderful when paired with seafood, particularly scallops or shrimp.
Praline Mustard? Really? Absolutely! This delicious combination of flavors including brown sugar, mustard, pecans and spices delivers a crowning touch when glazing ham, chicken or salmon. It offers a perfect, sweet syrupy glaze for carrots, and is fabulous drizzled over a baked sweet potato. As an appetizer, we love it served with Brie cheese and crackers. This really sounds so yummy and different!
I am a huge nut lover, and these creme brulee almonds just sound like something from heaven! A company that has been in business since 1888 has to be doing something right!

I hope I have shown you just a few of the superb selection at The Savory Pantry. They are great to shop all year round, but especially nice during the holidays. Everything on their site is made of incredible quality, and you cannot go wrong with any items. I really think a food gift basket is a lovely gift, and your friend or family member would be excited to receive this type of holiday gift.

May Finds at The Savory Pantry

Produce Candles Natural Soy Candle - Peanut

We are back with the fabulous Savory Pantry, and some very unique items! I really love to find different products, I actually search them out I think! I enjoy finding new companies and products that no one else has ever heard of, it's just my thing. So when the Savory Pantry sent me these next 2 products to tell you about, I was thrilled. 2 companies that were new to me and some awesome products!

I only know a handful of folks who do not love candles. I think they just make you happy. When you smell a new scent, you smile and cannot wait to have the aroma in your home. Everyone used to just buy Yankee candles, but now there is so much more variety, and better quality, we have many more choices. Produce Candles are a fun choice. They are made from soy and come in wonderful canning jars which can easily be reused. The scents come from the inspiration of fresh fruits and vegetables. I had the Peanut one and I must say, when it burns in my home, I smile. Here is some more information on these cool candles:

Made of all natural soy wax, Produce Candles have scents inspired by farm fresh fruits and veggies. Beautifully packaged in silkscreened canning jars, they make a charming gift or a lovely addition to your home!

PEANUT ~ This legume is steeped in tradition and commonly thought to be a nut. The light, yet distinct aroma make it an appealing ingredient in many cultures. It is often salted and roasted to further enrich its unique characteristics. -
Tender notes of crisp greens make this a staple in our kitchen and on our table. Full of nutrients and life, it is sure to boost your senses. Look for deep colored leaves highlighted with rough edges.

Sweet, earthy, spicy, crisp... each element will be seasonally represented in hand-cultivated candles made with natural soy wax and premium cotton wicks. These clean, fresh scents bring the best of the farm stand into the home.

Simple, sweet and the product of countless hours of labor. This delicate item has deep roots throughout history and is present in markets all over the world. Check for rich fragrance, color, and consistency.

Our 9oz natural soy wax candles have an approximate burn time of 50-70 hours.

Sweet, earthy, spicy, crisp... each element will be seasonally represented in hand-cultivated candles made with natural soy wax and premium cotton wicks. These clean, fresh scents bring the best of the farm stand into the home.

If you are looking for a different gift for someone, Produce Candles would be a very cool selection! I really want to try the Honey Candle as I am a big fan of honey. It might be fun to burn the Peanut and Honey at the same time, that could be interesting!!

from Green Mountain Mustard
This award-winning mustard is jam-packed with 10 cloves of garlic in each and every jar. Winner of a silver medal at the 2013 Worldwide Mustard Competition, the mustard makes the BEST garlic bread.

Being Italian, you know I love garlic! I always add extra to any recipe, I never use salt to flavor, so much rather use spices such as garlic. This mustard is just so fabulous, words cannot describe! I also love the fact that it is made in USA as well. So wonderful to support companies in the US. If you are looking for a new mustard with a twist, this would be your selection! They also make a Horsepower Horseradish MustardAtomic Rooster Sriracha Mustard and a Deli Dirt - Everything Bagel Mustard which sound amazing. A mustard set would be a fun Father's Day gift!

Loaded with garlic and seasoned with oregano. An ideal mustard for the garlic lover and it is hand-made in Vermont.

March Finds at The Savory Pantry

It is the last day of March (thank goodness, here comes Spring!) which means we are visiting with The Savory Pantry today! We have some great finds today, hope you are not reading on an empty stomach!
Kalamata Olive & Feta Crostini Spread by Elki Gourmet and Finocchiona Dry Cured Salami with Fennel Seed & Garlic by Olympic Provisions which have various uses that I love.
This spread looks sinful! Red peppers, feta cheese, kalamata olives, ripe tomatoes with Djon mustard and spices make up this fabulous product! I have it below just on some crackers, you can also toss with hot or cold pasta, or on some bread with artisan cheeses. This makes a great gift for the foodie, and The Savory Pantry does lovely gift baskets on their website. Are you drooling yet??

Our other product is the Finocchiona Dry Cured Salami  which I decided to make an old recipe that my Mom always made in our home. Escarole and beans. It is really very simple and with this salami, you will have such flavor, it will be wonderful! I first blanch the escarole in a large pot of salted water for about 1 minute. I drain it and gently squeeze out excess liquid. I then start a large skillet over medium heat with 1 tablespoon of oil olive and lots of garlic, some red pepper and the salami. I used a serrated knife to cut the salami, in rather thick slices. You can use as much as you wish, I used about 6 slices and it gave us wonderful flavor to the dish. I let that saute for about 2 minutes so the oil takes in the flavors. Then add escarole, cook about a minute. Add broth ( I use a no-salt broth) about 1/4 cup and then beans on top. I let it simmer for about 5 minutes with the lid on the pot.
There is nothing like homemade food. In our home, my Mother made everything from scratch. My house always smelled amazing! She did not have access however to all these fabulous products as we do now, and I can't imagine what she would have made if she did. Now that I am the cook in the house, it makes me happy when she has a smile while eating something I have cooked. It seems to be in the genes (thank goodness!) and I am very grateful.
Here is some information from The Savory Pantry website:
Handcrafted charcuterie, deeply rooted in the regional flavors and traditions of Europe.
Charcuterie is as much an art as it is a science. Olympic Provisions' Elias Cairo approaches it with inspired precision, purity and patience. The use of uncommon, old-world techniques assures a finished product that has deep, nuanced flavor and exquisite texture.
Finocchiona (fin-OHK-ee-own-ah) is a traditional Italian salami with garlic, black pepper & fennel. Named after its main flavor component (fennel), this is one of Tuscany's oldest and most loved pork products.
This salami can be used in a variety of ways, you can just cut it off and eat it with some bread and wonderful cheese. It works well with kalamata olives (our spread!) and grilled fresh figs! You can use your imagination and enjoy this alone or with guests. This is really such a happy foodie post, I hope you have enjoyed it !!

February Finds at The Savory Pantry

I am really thrilled to be introducing a new feature here on the blog and I hope you will like it. Our friends at The Savory Pantry, who are a longtime sponsor of this blog, will be featuring a monthly post of their unique finds. As you know, growing up in an Italian family, food was very important. We never had processed foods, my Mom made everything from scratch. As I grew older, my family and I became "foodies" and really enjoyed trying unique products. I credit my parents for making me see how fun it is to try new food products and experiment with them. I never really had to cook because my Mom always did it and did it so well, but since she got sick in 2013, I am now the cook. Turns out, I have the genes because homemade sauce, gnocchi and biscotti come pretty easy for me! The Savory Pantry is a fabulous place for the cook, for the foodie and I really adore their product selection. Their shop is located in Hot Springs, Arkansas but they do ship on their website which makes it easy for anyone to visit.
Our first two products go very well together. Lemon Sorbetti Loose Tea Canister
from Tea Forté is the first product. This loose tea is very aromatic, and based on Italy's famous sorbet, a true delight! As you probably know by now, my Mom is a very big lemon lover, so she was thrilled to be able to try this tea. We found it just wonderful with some honey added, it gave it just the right sweetness. There is something about loose tea that sets it apart from the rest. It makes me think of my local Valentine's Day tea where they served me tea bags. I was not impressed! This tea would also make a great gift as well.
The second product is Handmade Scottish Shortbread
by Shortbread House of Edinburgh and if you didn't know, I am a big tennis fan and also fan of Andy Murray who is from Scotland. Shortbread is like the wholly grail. It is such a rich, luscious dessert, probably one of my top 10 desserts. These are handmade and you can tell. They are so buttery and melt in your mouth. What a great partner with the tea! I would recommend these to anyone.
Here they are together! Don't they look like a great pair? My Mom is a big dunker and she dunked the shortbread in the tea and had such a grin on her face! I am so thrilled when she can enjoy treats like this during her day. These two items would make a lovely gift together for a friend or family member. I think you would be very popular if you were to do so, but they are also fabulous to treat yourself to as well.

I hope you enjoyed our first installment of monthly finds from The Savory Pantry. Please give their website a peek, they have great recipes as well as yummy gourmet treats. We will have 2 new products to showcase for March, so be on the lookout.

You can click on the logo to take you to their website!!
