Farewell to Mad Men, NYC Mad Men Events and The Smithsonian Museum

As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels. The series also depicts authentically the roles of men and women in this era while exploring the true human nature beneath the guise of 1960s traditional family values. For those of you who are Mad Men fans, in the next month we are sad to say goodbye to one of the most fabulous dramas from AMC. If you have never watched the show, I suggest start with Season 1 on Netflix ASAP. I have been watching since the start, in 2007, I can't believe it has been 8 years since it began! I really love period dramas, and with this starting in the 1960's, it was just pure gold. I embraced the fashions, the amazing storylines and the actors who really poured themselves into their characters. It was fun to see them go from each year, the changes that came about in the business and fashion world. The fact that they won the Emmy for outstanding drama the first 4 seasons of airing, tells you something. Their costume designer, Janie Bryant, has won numerous awards for her outstanding design. The final season begins April 5, 2015 on AMC at 10pm. 

I have had The Smithsonian Museum on my list for a while, to see Archie Bunker's chair and our best lady, Julia Child's kitchen, but now with some Mad Men memorabilia on it's way, I must get to the museum very soon! 

AMC has recently announced  that iconic props, costumes, set décor, scripts and research material from Mad Men, including Don Draper's grey suit and fedora(pictured above), and his often-used office bar cart, will join the permanent collection of the National Museum of American History at a ceremony in Washington on March 27, 2015. 

The museum, the national repository for American cultural history, also will receive creator Matthew Weiner's original script for the seminal episode "The Wheel" (Episode 113) with an alternate ending that was never filmed, AMC said.The ceremony will take place about a week before the Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-winning series kicks off its final seven episodes, on April 5.

A number of fabulous events are planned for "Mad Men's" fictional home of New York City. An exhibition at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens running from March 14 to June 14 will feature "Mad Men" costumes, sets & props as well as Matthew Weiner's personal notes with research material. 

The Museum of the Moving Image will also hold a public conversation with Matthew Weiner on March 20 and "Required Viewing, 'Mad Men's' Movie Influences," a series of 10 films selected by the show runner including Billy Wilder's "The Apartment," Arthur Hiller's "The Americanization of Emily" and Claude Chabrol's "Les Bonnes Femmes." It runs March 14 to April 19. A two-day film festival is also on tap at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on April 22 and 23.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center will host a conversation with Weiner and cast members Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks, January Jones, John Slattery and Vincent Kartheiser on March 21. Fans can also take part in a free marathon screening of key "Mad Men" episodes selected by Matthew Weiner on March 20 and 21 at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.

The New York Public Library will plug its "Mad Men Reading List," a collection of 25 titles read by characters in the series, at its three largest branches. 

Matthew Weiner will be appearing at the Museum of Jewish Heritage on March 29 to speak about Jewish identity in advance of an exhibition, "Designing Home: Jews and Midcentury Modernism," opening March 31, 2015.

I am so thrilled that the show introduced us to some great actors such as Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks, Elizabeth Moss, and the girl who grew up on the show, Kiernan Shipka, who has become a very classy young lady. I feel we will continue to hear from these great actors in the future, Jon Hamm has a great sense of humor, he was so funny in Saturday Night Live. I am excited to see how this show will end, and maybe I will start to watch all over again from the beginning. This type of show allows you to see different things each time you view an episode, which is so fabulous!

The Return of Mad Men, Finally!!

Today marks the end of my 17 month withdrawal for probably one of the best shows on television, Mad Men. The show has incredible writing, fabulous fashion as well as props from the 1960’s, which really make you smile. It is a bit before my time, however, it is so great to go back to that era with this show. The story line really has such great twists and turns, you cannot help but beg for more. If you are not watching, it is a story of advertising agencies in the 1960's. It really grabs you from the beginning and you become, well addicted. 

There were dolls made of the characters, so you know it is a big hit !! 

Then you have the oh-so-cool Jon Hamm as Don Draper, who can be pretty fabulous in comedic movies as well, such as Bridesmaids     

When drinking was allowed in the office, as well as smoking at your desk. I cannot even imagine that being allowed in the year 2012. 

Roger Sterling is quite a ladies man. John Slattery who plays the role, has always been a favorite of mine.  

Peggy Olsen and Mrs. Blankenship from Season 4. Truly a memorable one for those who watch the show!! Peggy shows how a lady in the 1960's rides up the ladder to a career in advertising.  

Betty Francis, aka January Jones, looks quite the Grace Kelly in this series. I am so loving the bag, and the dress. The costume designer, Janine Bryant, really outdoes herself season after season.  

Estee Lauder has even launched the "Mad Men" collection rouge and lipstick. I did purchase both, but was sad to see the lipstick is a mini size. They are really great colors. The packaging is oh so chic.   

Banana Republic has launched Mad Men inspired collections for a few years now. The men and women can take a cue from the 1960's and be oh so fashionable in 2012. My dad would have been thrilled the skinny ties are back in style.  

The actors on this show have such great talent and we are all lucky to be entertained by them again in Season 5 starting tonight!!

Okay, so my question is, Do you watch? How excited are you the show is finally back? Who is your favorite character? If you do not, You Need To. AMC. Tonight at 9pm you will find 2 hours of intense drama. And maybe some comedy thrown in as well. By the end of the night, you will want more. You will say, "When is this on again"?? You can also rent the prior seasons via Netflix on DVD. I must now go attend to my fondue and crackers for the premiere. I think a gimlet may also be in store for me too!! Enjoy the premiere!!

Photo Gallery Thursday "Mad Men at the Brooklyn Flea"

I finally visited the Brooklyn Flea and saw this great set up which reminded me of the show "Mad Men" ! The first thing I thought of when I saw it, so neat....I am sure that the show has increased sales of vintage clothing and furniture beyond control. Mad Men has been nominated for 19 emmys this year, if you do not watch the show, rent the DVD's.....it is pretty great stuff!!

Mad Men Season 4 Premier AMC July 25, 2010

I am so excited about the new season of Mad Men! If you are not familiar, it is on AMC and will be starting it's 4th season July 25th at 10pm. It takes place in the 1960's at a fictional ad agency called Sterling Cooper in New York City. It has received critical acclaim for it's  authentic history and visual style winning nine Emmy's & Five Golden Globes. It also has some of the best fashion, both men and women, from the 1960's.

it amazes me how much they smoked in the 60's..right at their desks and offices..I can't even imagine that now....they actually smoke clove cigarettes which Jon Hamm says does not taste too wonderful but looks good for the show.......

Christina Hendricks character Joan is very much in charge and has curves like Marilyn Monroe

Barbie even is into Mad Men, creating these gorgeous collector dolls...I love Betty's dress, just so beautiful

Bananna Republic is also getting into the Mad Men act. One week before the show's July 25 Season 4 premiere, the retailer will launch its Mad About Style campaign and style guide, which shows readers how to dress from 9 to 5 and then for dinner at 8. "Mad Men" characters will be featured alongside Banana Republic looks. 

The most important bit – entering to win a walk-on role -- is done by picking up a "ticket" at any Banana Republic in the U.S. and Canada between July 21 and Aug. 11. The ticket bears a code that allows customers to upload photos of themselves wearing their best "Mad Men" look. Series creator Matthew Weiner will select the winner.

QVC is also becoming crazy about Mad Men as the costume designer, Janie Bryant, is releasing a collection based on the hit show. The Mod by Janie Bryant collection features 20 pieces of 60's fashion and will be available September 29th.
