Sony Alpha A6000 Review

I am always very impressed by blogs I currently follow for their amazing photography. There are so many talented folks in the blog world! This post is in no way sponsored by any places listed or linked here.I purchase all of my photography items at Adorama, they have the best prices online, and I have been happy with every purchase. They also sell used equipment, not everyone can afford a lens that costs thousands of dollars, and the quality is very good. I have purchased some used items from them in the past, and they look brand new. I would not hesitate to tell someone to purchase from them whether new or used. 

I have been using the Canon Rebel with Canon Zoom lens EF 24-105mm 1:4L for the last few years. I was a late bloomer to switch to digital cameras, but while at the US Open tennis tournament, Olympus allowed you to take a camera around the grounds and play with it. They then took your photos and put them on a disk for you to take home. My first digital was a very basic Olympus, and it worked well, but I kept advancing until my current model. 

As much as I love my Canon equipment, I was hearing much about the mirrorless cameras. I follow a blog titled Girl Gone Travel, and she wrote about a Sony camera, showed the amazing photos she took which made me think - hmmm, should I buy one of these? I decided to take the plunge the end of 2015, I purchased the camera body separate  Sony Alpha A6000 (another great thing about Adorama) and the lens I purchased was the Sony 18-105mm F4.0 G OSS E-Mount NEX Camera Lens.  

This camera is pretty advanced. You need to update it via your computer, as well as charge the battery. This type of camera has updates available to fix any issues Sony may come across, which I think is a cool idea. The main reason I was looking for a 2nd camera was I wanted something lighter than my Canon gear. I would never get rid of the Canon items, but this gives me another option for photographing around the city. I wanted a smaller camera that gave me the power of a DSLR. This camera has wi-fi connection as well, which I have yet to try, but is pretty fabulous for a blogger!

Many professional photographers are making the switch, so I felt if it was good for them, it would be good for me to give it a try! Below are some examples of the photos I took with this camera. As with any camera, I feel the more I use it, the better I will become at taking photos with it. It is different from the Canon I am used to, but I do feel more comfortable after each use. The ability this camera has is amazing, and I love the fact it is so lightweight. I was very impressed with the night shots as well. taken with no flash, they came out very nicely. The photos are very crisp and clear, and with the advanced focus it is almost impossible to take a blurry photo!

His site offers wonderful videos about this camera, as well as other Sony models, some free and some you have to purchase. I purchased the video of how this camera should be set up for the best results, and found it to be very helpful. There is so much this camera can do, you can easily miss something!

Where to NOT buy your Photography Equipment in New York City

I normally do not write posts like this one. I felt however that if I saved one reader from doing what I did, it is worth it. I was in the city recently, and was walking past one of those electronic stores. Now, I know about the scams and such, but I thought "Oh I could use a glare filter for my new lens" and didn't think it would be a big deal. So I popped in on West 56th and 7th Avenue. I told the guy I was looking for a glare filter, he looked at my lens and said he had what I needed. He pulled out a filter, and said the price was somewhat of $300.00. Now I thought that was pretty pricey, but, my new lens is in the best quality range, and I thought maybe the filters were more expensive. I really should have known better. The price kept coming down as I said I didn't want to spend that much money. He was also trying to sell me a lens but I was smart enough to say know to that one. I came to find out that a filter I was sold for $144 actually cost $10. 

My reason for this post is to try to inform you, my readers, to not fall in this scam as I did. When in the city, please only purchase ANY type of photography or electronic equipment from reputable dealers. I normally purchase all my equipment from Adorama, and have also used B and H Photo for a few items. There are many of these places around New York City, like the one I was in, and even if you are purchasing a small item, they will overcharge you. I should have known better, and I should have googled the product on my phone right in front of him, he probably would have flipped. I can't take back what happened, I did email the company that makes the filter however, and I did get the store's business card. It lists a DCA number, which is given to them by the NYC government, I may see if that could get me anywhere. My receipt says No Returns or Exchanges so can't go back to the store. I highly doubt I will get any of my money back, but I will NEVER go in one of those places again. For even a ball point pen!
