Throwback Thursday "Football Team in 1937"

As I looked through my old photographs, I found this amazing shot of my Uncle Al (#2) from 1937. Yes, 79 years ago! This photo was in such great condition, I was really amazed. With the Super Bowl coming up, this just felt right to show you! I am not a football fan myself, baseball and tennis are more my speed. I love their shoes, helmets and outfits! My Uncle Al looks so handsome in the front row. He loved sports, and always was watching some sport when he visited my house. He was such a great, fun-loving guy - I miss him loads. He would love to have his photo here on the blog to show to all of you!

Throwback Thursday "Uncle Al in Arizona"

My Uncle Al (the handsome guy on the left) and his friend in the US Army in Arizona. My Uncle Al entered the service March 22, 1943 and stayed for 2 years 11 months and 5 days. I know so much detail because I have his Honorable Discharge certificate. I really have some neat items from my family's past, and it's so neat to go through them and admire. He was awarded the Honorable Discharge on February 19, 1946. He was mainly a cook and singer in the Army, and he continued to sing when he came back home. He kept in touch with many of the guys from his Army days, going out to Illinois to visit with them from time to time. I do miss my Uncle Al, he was a great guy, willing to do anything for anyone. I think he would be thrilled to see his photo here on my blog!

Throwback Thursday " Uncle Al "

This fabulous photo today is my Uncle Al. He was my Mom's brother, and we were very close. Because of my young age, all my Aunts and Uncles were like having a whole bunch of Grandparents! It was a really wonderful time. Uncle Al was a local singer, this photo was taken to promote his record that he made. He was also in the Army in the 1940's and sang for various USO programs. I actually have a letter from the USO dated October 18, 1944 asking him to perform in Springfield, Illinois for a War Fund program and a radio program. He had a great voice, and he was also a cook in the army! I didn't get the singing talent, but I did get the cooking talent, thank goodness! I hope you are enjoying these Throwback Thursday posts, alternating with my family photos and New York City. I think it's so wonderful we have these fabulous moments in time to remember people and places. Photography is just a most amazing art.
