We have the pleasure today of traveling outside of the USA and to York, England with the lovely Miss b from the blog Bobo Chic ! Some wonderful photos here of the lovely historic city with a boot maker and fabulous Tudor architecture. I bet the afternoon tea here would be off the charts too!!
A little introduction on Miss b :
Hi! I'm miss b. I live in the UK but have lived in France and travelled extensively including Hong Kong, Singapore, The Middle East, USA, Indonesia and Malaysia searching for amazing places and interesting finds to share with you in my blog. I also have an online boutique called bobochic which stocks gorgeous scarves, pashminas, jewellery, stationery and bags hand-picked for their style.
I hope you enjoy my blog! miss b
I'm delighted to be a guest blogger over here for Rosemary and her readers especially since NYC and a Little Cannoli happens to be one of my favourite reads!
I thought it might be a good idea to introduce you to a very different city which shares the name...another York...in the North of England .....so please follow along on my recent visit....
There are four main gatehouses to enter the city and we walked through Micklegate. Large sections of the ancient city walls remain (more miles intact than any other in England).....
York is renowned for its Roman, Viking and Medieval heritage and has a wealth of attractions .... Our first stop was the iconic York Minster ..... one of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in Europe.
Around every corner there's a little bit of history.....
.......charming half-timbered buildings....
Mulberry Hall is a beautiful shop specialising in china and crystal |
The Shambles is a very narrow, cobbled medieval street lined with overhanging 15th century Tudor buildings.....apparently the most visited street in Europe!
This is a lively city, mainly pedestrianised, with a variety of quirky and fun street entertainers ........ including a hooded knife juggler, a cartoonist....
and .....Purpleman........
Clifford's Tower is all that remains of York Castle built by William the Conqueror ....... great views of the city from the top.....and the nearby Castle Museum is worth a visit to see everyday life through the centuries including a reconstructed Victorian Street.
The Jorvik Centre is a reconstruction of the Viking settlement which was unearthed during an archeological dig from 1976-1981. Visitors are transported in a 'time-capsule' through 9th century Jorvik (the Viking name for York) where you can even experience all the smells!
This Viking standing outside was happy to pose for a photo....
No trip to York would be complete without a visit to Betty's Café and Tea Room with white aproned waitresses and traditional afternoon tea .... but be prepared to queue outside to get in!
......but this time we opted for a Betty's Yorkshire Rarebit Toasted Sandwich (cheddar cheese, Worcestershire Sauce, Yorkshire ale and chives) with a pot of Betty's Tea Room blend tea ..... delicious!
It's fascinating to see so many well-known shops housed in such historical buildings .........
Jones Bootmaker shoe shop |
.....and just across the road at St Martin le Grand Church, we spotted the famous old clock topped with the figure of a naval officer....
During the afternoon we stumbled across Filmore & Union café....
It was definitely time for a cappuccino and cake....... pistachio cake and a chocolate brownie...
Almost two hours later and we were back home in Lancashire ready to eat our treats from Betty's .... a vanilla slice and a famous Fat Rascal(a cross between a scone and a rock bun).......a seasonal version....
**York is just two hours from London by train. For more information, visit the official visitor's guide here
Thank you again, Rosemary, for inviting

It's definitely a beautiful city- historic, scenic and imposing! I should really pop up there again with only living in Birmingham!

I had no idea York was so beautiful (or that it was only 2 hours from London by train… I feel a trip coming on). I had heard about the infamous Bettys and it looks like it won’t disappoint. Looks like you had good weather too! Thanks for the lovely tour miss B, and to Rosemary for sharing it with us! x
Great post Miss b. Will have to stop by that Betty's! :)
Your post makes me want to book plane tickets and head over there. An afternoon at Betty's looks dreamy after a nice stroll along Shambles.
My goodness! what a wonderful post! I really got a sense for the city! I love Jo Malone! So nice to see they have a shop here too. I love the architecture and the food sure seems yummy!
Those castles take my breath away! .. and there's a Starbucks of course (they are everywhere!) Lots of fun places I'd like to visit and the food looks delicious. Nicely done ladies!

Great post Miss B, nice to Meet you Rosemary! Following you via Bloglovin now. I love both England's historic towns and the glorious NYC. I've never been to York, but I visited Canterbury years ago and I see some similarities. Am I hugely mistaken Miss B? It was a pleasant virtual tour, thank you!
