I have to say I am so glad today is over!! My trip to the city was delayed from last Thursday with Irene but I am glad I did as I don't think would have wanted to been in the city solo with this storm. The above photo is my neighbor across the street whose tree decided it wanted to come out from the ground!! We had pretty bad winds and rain here in Northeast PA as only a 2 hour drive from New York City. We were also without power for about 5 hours.
My photo of Hudson River Park in the lower part of Manhattan.......
It was very strange to see the stores have their windows boarded up in the city but I am so glad it wasn't as bad as they expected. I think Mayor Bloomberg did a great job and really worked hard to assure the safety of the people of New York City, even if they felt it was a bit over-the-top. I say better to be over cautious than not in cases such as these. Hopefully we will not see one of these storms for another decade or so..........
Today's Words of Wisdom: "As we've seen so many times before, this emergency is really about bringing out the best in New Yorkers. I'm happy to say overnight crime activity was below normal. Ray reports 45 arrests overnight compared to on average on a typical Saturday night in August 345. So 300 fewer arrests. If that doesn't tell you about New Yorkers, I don't know what does. People said, 'Oh, you were going to have a problem.' Quite the contrary. New Yorkers do come together." - Mayor Michael Bloomberg

Wow. Strange weather. Hope everything turned out okay.
it did...glad it's over! I think NJ got hit much worse than NYC and parts of Pennsylvania got hit badly with the flooding.....just crazy weather!!
Glad to hear you survived it more or less intact! I agree with you that too many precautions were better than too few, and it seems that the city was really well prepared and organized, so well done to Mr Bloomberg and all of you.
Glad everything wasn't as bad as it was predicted to be!
Hope all is well with your property!

Glad to hear that you are OK. I was relieved to hear that it wasn't as bad as predicted.
Bloomberg finally did a good job. He was making up for being in the Islands during the big snowstorms last winter while people were dying.
