The Treat House Upper West Side

The Treat House is an idea that came out of an old fashioned bake sale. Gourmet rice krispie treats in amazing flavors. Why did someone not think of this sooner? Opened May of 2013, a new shop located in the Upper West Side. A very good reason to travel to this part of the city. Let's take a peek inside shall we :
I just loved the lights!
There are 12 flavors that are available at all times, with 4 which rotate with the season. For the fall season, they have Candy Corn, Maple Pecan and Pumpkin Spice.
They make their own marshmallows with raw cane sugar, not corn syrup. They looked amazing in the raspberry and mint flavors.
Pretzel and Caramel
These make great hostess gifts, don't you think?
I had picked the red velvet to take home
The M&M's were very colorful and would be great for a kid's party
I loved the packaging so they stay in good shape during travel to take home
My favorite of course, peanut butter cup !!
Oreo
The pretzel looked pretty amazing as well
Cappuccino was quite nice
Small space but decor is really lovely
Caramel up close and personal
The birthday cake is really fun as well
Bubble gum flavor What fun is this ??
Chocolate raspberry was very photogenic

my stash of treats which came home with me
Did I mention my favorite was the peanut butter cup? I need to get more of these next time I am in

Throwback Thursday "Union Square"

What a really cool photo here, not sure of the date, the Traffic Squad Parade, November Mayor George McClellan alighting from auto on the plaza at Union Square, NYC. So many details in this photograph. I love the car! The outfits are fantastic, the top hats are wonderful. The photo is so clear, how lucky are we to be able to enjoy this wonderful treasure!

The Best Hot Chocolate in NYC

When it starts to feel like the fall weather is upon us, we think of enjoying some hot chocolate. My Mom was a real lover of hot chocolate, I think it just makes you feel so good when you can drink a well made cup. These are some of the best you will find in the city. The City Bakery even has a Hot Chocolate Festival in February of each year, each day features a different flavor ! Please add all these wonderful places to your "to-do" list and let me know which one is your favorite.

Brooklyn Pizza Tour September 2017

I ventured upon a Brooklyn Pizza Tour with our friends at A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours. We had a gorgeous day, and this is really one of the best Brooklyn tours you will ever enjoy.

The tours are run all year round, and they take you from Union Square to Brooklyn via bus and bring you back to Union Square at the end of the tour. You can choose to stay at Coney Island, the last stop on the tour, if you wish and find your own way back to Manhattan. These photos were taken from the Brooklyn Bridge waterfront. It was a glorious day indeed!

I think I see the Empire State Building

You can see Lady Liberty herself which is kind of cool

These views are really priceless
Our first pizza stop is Grimaldi's  in DUMBO which stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass and is a pizza institution
Love Frank and Marlon on the walls !

These pizzas are made fresh to order, and cooked in a brick oven which makes the taste extra special.

Here is some information from their website:

In the world of pizza, Grimaldi’s is an institution. Grimaldi’s history of coal-fired brick oven pizza cooking can be traced to the first pizzeria in America back in 1905. Coal-fired brick oven cooking gives pizza a unique smoky flavor and a crisp crust that is just not possible with gas, convection, or wood oven. Knowing coal-fired brick oven cooking is a dying art, we, at Grimaldi’s, want to ensure that future generations will be able to experience this distinctive and truly authentic pizza.

It doesn't take long for these to be cooked in this oven

Margherita pizza is a typical Neapolitan pizza, made with San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella fior di latte, fresh basil, salt and extra-virgin olive oil. Since I am 100% Neapolitan, this is probably my most favorite. Simple, fresh ingredients with the best flavor.

This is the famous Gingerbread House in Brooklyn which you are able to view from the bus. The Brownstoner website has a wonderful piece about the history of this amazing piece of architecture. It is well worth the read!
A few more of the gorgeous mansions in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn

Our second stop was L&B Spumoni Gardens
This is sicilian pizza at it's finest - You can taste 2 pieces at each place but if there are some leftover and you wish for a 3rd, that is not a problem. We had people from all over the world on our tour, it is a really fabulous way to see Brooklyn in an afternoon.

This is really some amazing tasting pizza
I had to try the Spumoni this time as missed it last time and it was quite good as well. This flavor was a mix of pistachio, chocolate and vanilla. It is a molded Italian ice cream, with a different texture than Gelato, and very light.
Our last stop is the historic Coney Island
You feel like you are stepping back in the 1950's when you arrive here

We really had one beautiful September day, almost felt like a summer day actually!

The famous Wonder Wheel

The Original Brooklyn Pizza Tour runs 5 days a week starting at 11am in Union Square. The tour runs for approximately 4.5 hours and you really get a feel for the area of Brooklyn. While on the bus, you view various movies filmed in Brooklyn, and then go past that exact location. There are also many famous folks born in Brooklyn, from actors to writers to musicians. The tour is done very well, and you can tell by the quality that they know what they are doing. I would recommend this tour to anyone, and I know they will be running for a very long time!

Disclosure: I was provided tickets for this tour from A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours for this review. There has been no monetary compensation for this post. I only recommend products that I feel will be of interest to my readers, and that I am truly impressed by. All opinions are my own. Thank you!!
