Top 10 NYC Hotels with Best Restaurants

I know many people say you shouldn't eat at your hotel when you travel, but these restaurants below make you want to rethink that idea. Breakfast in hotels is usually overpriced and not really that exciting. If you dine in any of the restaurants below, you will be very happy. Wonderful, creative meals in lovely settings make you want to return even if you are not staying in the hotel. I love to enjoy a good meal when in the city, and if the place has higher prices for dinner, I try to stop for lunch instead which is usually a bit more inexpensive. The important thing to remember is to try new things as that is what travel is all about.

In no particular order:

1. The Plaza Hotel - The Palm Court AND The Champagne Bar - I really love the Palm Court for Afternoon Tea but it is very good for regular fare breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Champagne Bar is just really old New York and feels amazing to enjoy a cocktail and people watch!

2. Kimpton Hotel Eventi - L'Amico - This hotel is becoming my favorite in the city, and I just love to dine at L'Amico! The pizza is made in twin copper-clad, wood-burning ovens and is so tasty! Eggplant Caponata Crostini really changed my life! Their fresh pasta dishes just melt in your mouth and the desserts are worth all the calories! The homemade gelato is light and refreshing after your meal.

3. The Quin - The Wayfarer -  I stayed at The Quin and really enjoyed the hotel, the restaurant is fantastic. Most items for breakfast are under $20 and my faves salmon benedict and bacon, egg and cheese brioche is to die for! The raw bar and sushi are great choices for lunch. They have a wonderful steak selection for dinner should that be your fave. I don't think anything you try here will be bad, and I love the space as well.

4. The Surrey Hotel  - Café Boulud - A NYC classic by Chef Daniel Boulud you cannot go wrong with anything here. The ricotta gnocchi is to die for, long island duck breast is quite the tasty. They do have a prixe fixe lunch selection which is a good idea. You will really enjoy your meal here, and it is worth every penny!

5. Gramercy Park Hotel - Maialino - A wonderful Danny Meyer Italian restaurant that will make your mouth water. Order the fried artichokes, lamb chops or pappardelle.

6. Viceroy Hotel - Kingside - This somewhat newer hotel, offers new American cuisine with French, Italian, and Spanish touches. Breakfast and Lunch prices are reasonable with most entrees hovering around $20 or less. I love their avocado toast! For brunch, the lobster scramble with creme fraiche & herb salad on toast is sublime! The pan roasted scallop dinner is pretty amazing. You can also find comfort food sides, including roasted squash and salt and pepper fries with sweet onion aioli.

7. Loews Regency -  The Regency Bar & Grill  - the iconic Power Breakfast, which was introduced at Loews Regency Hotel during NYC’s 1975 financial crisis, now also available at lunch and dinner. Other staples include Joan’s Chopped Salad with grilled chicken, romaine, watercress, avocado, cheddar, egg, bacon and cherry tomatoes and a Lobster Roll served on toasted brioche.

8. Parker New York - The Burger Joint AND Norma's - The Burger Joint is an awesome treat. It accepts cash only at the counter -- which isn't a big deal because burgers are cheap, at under $10. You can also get a milkshake or a glass of beer for $8 or less. Norma's is known for their breakfasts, some choices are: Irresistible Banana-Macadamia Nut Flap Jacks, Donut Even Go There French Toast which is Cheesecake-Stuffed, Coconut-Rolled With Orange Drizzle and Vanilla Ice Cream, The Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata Regular 1oz Sevruga Caviar $200 OR Super size 10oz Sevruga Caviar $2000 (Norma Dares You to Expense This)! It is hard to get a reservation for Norma's but worth the wait. Very different menu from what you will ever make at home. Prices range from $25 to $40 for Breakfast, Brunch selections (minus the Lobster Frittata, of course).

9. The Redbury - MARTA - Amazing pizza's from Danny Meyer made in wood fire oven and entrees are quite the tasty as well. Tomato Risotto Croquettes, Pizza choices: Zucchini Flowers, Mozzarella, Anchovy - Eggplant, Mozzarella, Ricotta Salata, Basil - Potatoes, Guanciale, Black Pepper, Pecorino, Egg - the selections really make my mouth water!!

10. The Langham NYC - Ai Fiori - Michelin Star Italian Restaurant by Chef Michael White. Some items to order are the White Label Burger, Agnolotti or Spaghetti with blue crab and lemon which will make you very happy. This place is not inexpensive, but if you are looking for a meal to remember, this is your spot.
