Capturing the Lower East Side's Storefronts

Capturing the Lower East Side's Disappearing Mom-and-Pop Storefronts

A wonderful photography and oral history exhibition, recently opened at Theater For The New City Gallery, 155 First Avenue at East 10th Street. The exhibition is curated by James and Karla Murray , the husband-and-wife photography team that have documented so many mom-and pop-storefronts, compiled in their books Store Front : The Disappearing Face of New York and a great selection HERE on their website

Their is no charge to view this exhibition. It is really sad to see so many of these New York classic shops and restaurants leaving the city. They are so much a part of the culture of the city. It is really great that this couple documented the storefronts in this manner. One of the great things I love about photography is that it takes you back in time.
