Schiaparelli and Prada Press Preview at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

I am trying to come up with the appropriate words for this post. I am honored to say I am an approved member of the press for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This museum is one of the best in the world. It is a place where I remember being taken as a small child by my godmother, who got me hooked on New York City. My thoughts on this day, going as press, attending before anyone else, while the museum was closed to the public, I cannot express. I kept thinking, I hope they let me in! This is for sure a must see place on your list when visiting the city. Here we go:
When I arrived, the unsung heros were there getting that red carpet ready. A father asked for a piece of it for his child while watching them work, they did give him some but I felt it was more maybe for the mom than the child.
The red carpet in the museum looked quite fabulous. This fashionable lady walking along with all the great statues around her. What a lovely scene!!

The Met's Spring 2012 Costume Institute exhibition, Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, explores the striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras. Inspired by Miguel Covarrubias's "Impossible Interviews" for Vanity Fair in the 1930s, the exhibition features orchestrated conversations between these iconic women to suggest new readings of their most innovative work. Iconic ensembles are presented with videos of simulated conversations between Schiaparelli and Prada directed by Baz Luhrmann, focusing on how both women explore similar themes in their work through very different approaches. - from the Metropolitan Museum of Art Website

It is very cool to see the 2 designers talking to each other throughout the exhibit

This wedding gown was so breathtaking I could not even imagine being able to wear this
Elsa Schiaparelli

Veil, spring 1938
Cotton net embroidered with blue glass bugle beads
Philadelphia Museum of Art; Gift of Mme Elsa Schiaparelli, 1969

Accessories that would make any woman fall to her knees!!
I found the waistlines very interesting

Some of my absolute favorites were the following:

Miuccia Prada
Skirt, autumn/winter 1999–2000
Green wool twill embroidered with blue plastic leaves and green and brown
leather insects
Courtesy of Prada

Bill Cunningham from the New York Times

Can you spot Bill Cunningham's shadow?

I also found in the gift shop, The Sartorialist, Scott Schuman, among those browsing around !!
2 fashionable ladies leaving the exhibit, walking in front of me, possible to be photographed by Mr. Schurman at some point throughout the day!!

Hope you enjoyed some views of this amazing exhibit! It runs until August 19, 2012

Today's Words of Wisdom
Schiaparelli: Dalí was a constant caller. We devised together … the black hat in the
form of a shoe with a Shocking velvet heel standing up like a small column. …
There was another hat resembling a lamb cutlet with a white frill on the bone, and
this, more than anything else, contributed to [my] fame for eccentricity.
Prada: I’m more known for my shoes. For me, shoes are where I can express my
fantasy, my imagination. I think you have much more freedom to be outrageous
with shoes. There is more room for craziness, for exaggeration. In my spring 2012
collection, for instance, my shoes resembled Cadillacs, complete with tail lights.

Schiaparelli's work makes Prada's look like an after thought .. as much as I love Prada's classic trousers and sweaters .. Miuccia tends, in my opinion, to do too much with embellishments... and I would have loved to see more of the wedding gown, the veil is unique and very interesting

I loved the wedding gown It was in a corner and kind of dark but I tried as best to shoot it. Love the blue on the veil, just so gorgeous!
