Pizzo Rollio and Lady M Cake Boutique at The Plaza Food Hall

The Plaza Hotel is a place I frequent quite often when in the city. I just love the food hall downstairs, it has so many fantastic food choices. I love the idea of the all these great places in one spot! When I was there recently, I decided to finally try Pizza Rollio and Lady M Cake Boutique. Lady M I have been photographing for years but never got the chance to try it! The pizza place is pretty new, and it really looked interesting!  

This is a artisanal pizza – crisp dough layered with a blend of cheese and rolled up with your choice of fresh toppings. Such a unique way to eat pizza! They have quite a menu of choices, but I went with the basic style, you receive some arugula and alfalfa to stuff on your pizza, roll and eat!  

The crust is paper thin, so unique and really very tasty. I would for sure stop here again and try another flavor. They offer breakfast and dessert pizza as well. So much fun! I always try to enjoy new food choices when in the city, you will never find me at TGI Fridays.

Lady M I have been photographing for a very long time. It has been one of those things that just never worked out the right time for me to try. Well, today was the day!  

 

I went for the basic crepe cake.  Here is their description from their website: 

Our signature cake and famous worldwide, the Lady M Mille Crêpes features no less than twenty paper-thin handmade crêpes layered with ethereal light pastry cream. Delicate and irresistible, the top is gently caramelized till golden. Sink right in; alternating crêpe and cream layers literally melt in your mouth, leaving a subtle sweet finish.

It was the most amazing cake I ever enjoyed. So light, and creamy - not too sweet. I had no problem enjoying the whole piece! It is for sure a must try when in the city, and do not wait as long as I did!

Afternoon Tea at The Palm Court in the Plaza Hotel

The Plaza Hotel is one of my favorite places. Prior to my viewing of the Clark Family Auction at Christie's, I met Marta from Baker's and Artists for tea. I had tea here a few years ago during the Christmas holiday and it was wonderful. I was curious if it was going to still be as good. 

These photos were actually from my phone, I kind of didn't want to pull out the big camera. Most of them came out pretty good which shocks me how great camera phones can be. I am now using the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and I just love it. My tea of choice was the Tuscan Pear Rooibus which was so tasty. 

We selected the Fitzgerald Tea, which pays tribute to The Plaza's most legendary patrons, F Scott and Zelda. The one thing I remembered about the tea before was that the food you had was quite a plenty. Some of these teas the sandwiches are not very filling. I have had some teas where after an hour I was hungry again! This did not happen here, for sure! 

The scones were tiny, and I hate to say a bit dry, but so they were. I love a good scone, and they should be moist and tender. 

Some of the largest sandwiches you will have at a tea. Very tasty as well, egg salad - salmon- turkey - cucumber - 

A very lovely setting here, real silverware to be used and it was a pretty filled place on a Saturday. Some folks were having lunch as well which looked pretty good to me!

By the time we were ready for dessert, we were actually pretty full. That opera cake was calling me however so that was one of the little guys I enjoyed! 

Lovely presentation, great atmosphere and overall very tasty food. I would highly recommend anyone to have tea here. It is a wonderful experience in one of the most iconic places in New York City.

Christmas Tea at the Plaza Hotel

I am never one to turn down an invite to afternoon tea! I had the pleasure of meeting Esme, from the blog Chocolate and Croissants (great title) in December. The decorations in the Plaza Hotel are always gorgeous, their tree is huge and perfect, of course! 

I found this adorable tote in the Plaza gift shop downstairs, and instead of purchasing it, I took a photo! I just loved the sayings! They are all very, very true! 

The setting here for tea is just so relaxing. I have never been disappointed with afternoon tea here, and I would return over and over. 

The portions are HUGE, and we both took items home with us! You can easily have this tea as your dinner, you will be pretty full when you leave. This was the New Yorker tea, everything was so yummy! The company was fabulous too and that's what makes a perfect afternoon tea!

THE PLAZA CELEBRATES THE QUINTESSENTIAL “CITY CHILD” WITH A BIRTHDAY TEA AND BOOK SIGNING WITH ARTIST HILARY KNIGHT

Iconic New York Hotel Releases New Series of Limited Edition Eloise Prints  

New York – October 16, 2013 – The Plaza is rawther excited to announce a new collaboration with artist Hilary Knight to celebrate the hotel’s most lovable and mischievous guest, Kay Thompson’s iconic character, Eloise. Hilary Knight brought Eloise to life with his playful illustrations nearly sixty years ago, and is again taking pen to paper to conjure up the latest in Eloise’s (mis)adventures.  Ever since Eloise moved into The Plaza, generations of mothers and daughters, aunts and nieces have reveled in the antics of the precocious six-year-old.  Like The Plaza itself, Eloise captured the hearts of New Yorkers and world travelers in 1955 when the book was first published, and she still does so today. Beginning this November, The Plaza pays homage to Eloise’s enduring place in the hotel’s history with a series of newly designed limited edition prints and commemorative art pieces by Hilary Knight.

The special collaboration launches with a birthday tea celebration on November 4, hosted by Hilary Knight.  From 4:00pm to 6:00 pm, guests are invited to join Knight in The Palm Court for tea, treats and a book signing.  Join Hilary Knight under the famed Eloise portrait that he painted over 50 years ago. Eloise loves, loves, loves birthdays, and each child will receive a rawther mahvelous gift bag at the conclusion of the event.

The Plaza and Hilary Knight will introduce a holiday-themed limited edition print of the ever-charming Eloise, the first in a six-part series.  Throughout the year, Eloise enthusiasts will delight at Valentine’s Day, Easter, the 4^th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas-themed prints.  Fans who purchase all six prints will receive a custom seventh birthday-themed print, signed by Knight with a special custom inscription.  Each series will include 100 prints, available for $250 each. 

Since everyone absolutely loooves Eloise, The Plaza and Hilary Knight will be releasing additional themed print series in 2014 and 2015.  These will feature Eloise at her mischievous best in well-known settings from her series of adventures as a world traveler in favorite destinations from New York to Moscow; and a series featuring Eloise in her favorite locales at The Plaza, the place she calls home.

The Great Gatsby Celebration at The Plaza Hotel

The Great Gatsby film is opening very soon. It is adapted from the F. Scott Fitzgerald book released in 1925, is considered by some the greatest American novel ever. Elegance, love, the Jazz Age and Art Deco are some of the characteristics of this classic. The movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, is causing a frenzy of Gatsby related items. Tiffany and Co. have fabulous Gatsby windows with gorgeous jewelry pieces to enjoy and Brooks Brothers is showing a Gatsby themed collection. Since The Plaza is one of my favorite places to visit when in the city, as well as it's wonderful Food Hall, I thought I would highlight for you some of the chic events they are having to co-inside with the film opening. I just love the Art Deco ads for the events. I think they are so wonderful to frame, I would buy them poster size if they were available!! 

The Plaza celebrates the Roaring '20s with period-inspired affairs this spring, in honor of its role in Baz Luhrmann's new film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's “The Great Gatsby”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan. The film opens in theaters on May 10, 2013.

The Plaza’s history is intrinsically tied to this timeless American novel and its author F. Scott Fitzgerald, who, with his wife Zelda, was a devoted patron of The Plaza. Epitomizing the Lost Generation, Fitzgerald’s exploits were notorious and he regularly drew inspiration from everyday life for his novels. The hotel’s enduring presence on the New York social scene made it a natural setting for the most climactic scene in the novel and the upcoming film. This spring, guests and visitors can embrace the Jazz Age with a collection of experiences throughout The Plaza.

This menu from the Todd English Food Hall is quite fabulous and I hope to try it next time I am in the city. 

The various places in The Plaza Food Hall are just winners all around. They have fabulous selections to celebrate The Great Gatsby film opening.
