One of my most favorite buildings is The Chrysler Building. I have stayed at The Intercontinential The Barclay during my trips to the US Open, and getting off the bus at the hotel to see this building right in front of me, made my evening! I never managed to look at it up close, until now. My to do list in the city is rather large, and sometimes finding time to do everything can get a bit crazy! Loved this entrance way!
The Chrysler Building was built between 1928 and 1930, designed by architect William Van Alen. It has 77 stories and stands 1046 feet tall over this fabulous city. Located on Lexington Avenue, between 42nd/43rd streets, you can only visit the lobby area. The building is used for for business, which is why you cannot go any further than the lobby area.

Walter Chrysler bought the project before construction and had the architect William Van Alen add decorative features inspired by Chrysler's automobile designs, including stainless-steel eagle head hood ornaments, Chrysler radiator caps, racing cars on the 31st floor, and even the notable shiny vertex.
Originally painted on canvas, Edward Trumbull's "Transport and Human Endeavor" was cemented to the lobby ceiling. Trumbull's mural was the largest in the world at the time of its completion, and features buildings, airplanes, and scenes from the Chrysler assembly line, as the Chrysler Building itself.
The building was the headquarters for the Chrysler Corporation from 1930 to the mid-1950's.
There are 3,862 windows on it's facade and 4 banks of 8 elevators!!

The Chrysler Building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976. This view to me is classic New York City. Every time I see it in the distance while walking around, I cannot help but smile!!
