Throwback Thursday " NYC 1905 Snowstorm"

I just had to do a snowstorm photo today. I think we are all pretty happy Spring is almost here. The weather this week has derailed so many of my plans. I am however looking at the bright side. This photo from 1905 of Fifth Avenue after a snowstorm is pretty darn cool. That looks like quite a bit and they probably didn't have the equipment we have in 2017 to clean it all up. I love the ladies in all their finest clothes out for a stroll on the snowy streets. They don't look too bothered by it at all. Spring is on March 20th. Thank goodness!!

Throwback Thursday "The Great Blizzard of 1947"

December 26, 1947, a huge, historic storm dumped record levels of snow on the Northeastern United States. In New York City, where the snow fell quietly, and steadily, for hours and hours, several LIFE photographers stepped out of the magazine’s offices, cameras in hand, and recorded the scene.

The snowflakes began their descent unexpectedly and within the next 24 hours the city was covered by 26.4 inches of white mounds, with snow falling at the rate of 3 inches per hour.

Can you even imagine that much snow? My Mom used to tell me that they had tons of snow in the 1940's and 1950's. We are quite spoiled now in 2017 as when we get a few inches, we are in a panic. I am fine with lots of snow, on a weekend when I can just sit in my home and drink a hot cocoa!

Throwback Thursday "Central Park Snow 1900"

I felt after this weekend, we needed a nice vintage photo of a snow scene! This was from about 1900 in Central Park and so lovely. I felt bad for NYC this weekend with all the snow they received, but it must have been pretty cool walking around with no traffic anywhere! My Mom used to tell me stories of when she was young that they always got so much snow during the winter months. Thank goodness my area didn't receive as much as New York City, but we still had to get the snowplow out to clean our sidewalks and driveways. I am lucky to have a nice neighbor who cleans my driveway for me, but I know not everyone is so lucky. These kids look like they are having such a grand time in this photo. I bet many kids this weekend had the same kind of fun in the most fabulous Central Park!
