HISTORY 

Construction began in 1997 and the hotel opened in 2000 as part of the Accor Hotels group. After construction the building was awarded the 2000 Emporis Skyscraper Award, for architectural excellence regarding the design of buildings and their functionality. The hotel went through a major renovation in 2025, the rooms, lobby and restaurant have all had a make-over and it looks very refreshed. 

LOCATION  

I would say this location is one of the best. You are close to so many destinations, easy to walk everywhere. Subway is near at Bryant Park if you use it. I prefer to walk if I can, or take a cab. 

LOBBY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE   

I love the lobby of this hotel because it's really large, and if you just want to hang out there is plenty of room. There is a Gregory's coffee across the street, you can bring one back and enjoy in the lobby area. Customer service was very good with my prior stays, this one did not impress. The staff was not overly friendly, and I did not receive a welcome back gift. This was my 4th stay, and I booked direct as the price was $100 less than hotels.com. 

THE ROOM 

The renovation is very nice, and was needed. The bathroom which is very large, was not touched at all. I had a king bed, which made the room very cramped. It would have been better with the queen bed which I will try to remember for next time if I stay here again. I was given a room with a view of the Empire State Building. The room was very quiet, I could not hear the other guests in rooms next to me. They gave you a water bottle as there are water filling stations on each floor. The only issue I had was the water was not cold, I put it in the fridge to get colder, but it was a bit disappointing. 

ALL IMPORTANT BATHROOM  

This is one of my favorite bathrooms as very large especially for NYC. The rainfall shower was perfect, warm water every time as well as in the sink. There is lots of space for your toiletries which is very welcome. 

CLEANLINESS HOTEL AND ROOM  

There were no problems with the cleanliness of the hotel nor the room. Everything was top notch, and the maid brought me fresh towels each morning. 

RESTAURANT

The restaurant, Social 45, a restaurant/lounge was quite a highlight. It was a very nice space, all brand new with seating area for dining and bar. I had a lobster roll which was amazing, creme brulee for dessert. I would come back here to dine for sure when in the area and would recommend to anyone to give it a visit. 

ROOM SERVICE  

I had breakfast on Thanksgiving Day, as did not want to go out with the crowds for the parade. I was told it would be 45 minutes due to being so busy, but they actually delivered within about 15 which was unexpected. The food was good, could have been warmer but I was on the 15th floor. It was nice having breakfast with the Empire State Building. 

BEST PART OF STAYING HERE 

The location for sure. Broadway is 5 minutes away, as well as Bryant Park, NY Public Library - Rockefeller Center is about 6 minute walk. Grand Central Terminal is 3 minute walk. If it is a nice day, you can pretty much walk wherever you wish to go in the city. Subway station is at Bryant Park if you are looking to go Downtown or Upper East or West Side. 

OVERALL IMPRESSION

I was excited to return to this hotel, having last stayed in 2018. This was my fourth visit, but unfortunately, it did not live up to the high standards of my previous stays. In the past, I received a welcome gift and a room upgrade, but neither was offered this time.

Upon arrival, my room key did not work in the elevator. I had to go back to the front desk for a new key. While I appreciated that my room was ready by 10:30 a.m., I was shocked to find the room still occupied—someone else’s shoes and clothes were inside. I had to return to the front desk for a second time to be reassigned to a vacant room. This experience left me uneasy about the hotel’s service and security.

Although I was given a corner room with an Empire State Building view, I had originally paid for a city view room. It felt more like an apology than an upgrade. On a positive note, I dined at the new restaurant, and the food was excellent—I would gladly return there.

As for the hotel itself, I am uncertain. If offered a very good rate, I might consider staying again, but I believe other hotels in the area provide better service and value. Frequent travelers can easily compare experiences, and in this case, the service fell short of expectations. I was so excited to come back to this hotel, and unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations from prior visits. 

Nearby Attractions: Broadway, Grand Central Terminal, Morgan Library and Museum, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, 5th Avenue shopping, Bryant Park, NY Public Library, many cafes and restaurants 

Overall Rating: 7 out of 10

Hotel prices are at their lowest in the months of January and February; their highest September and October. Sunday nights are the lowest prices for hotel rooms, in most cases. My go to places for checking prices for hotels are Trip Advisor, and Hotels.com. Always remember to check the hotel's website itself, they are really trying to have you book direct and sometimes offer specials or a discount with AAA that is cheaper than the websites I mentioned above. I am also finding that if you book on your mobile device, you can save some money as well. I actually got a better rate via my mobile phone than using my AAA discount online direct at the hotel. You should really do some research on your price for hotel a few different ways, and ALWAYS book a room that you can cancel, you never know what may happen in the future. You also want the ability to change hotels if you should find a better option closer to your date of arrival.

What kind of history goes with this hotel? When you arrived, how was the lobby and customer service? The lobby of this hotel is wonderful. There are many seats available, the only item missing are plugs to charge your devices. The customer service at this hotel is one of the reasons I keep coming back. I was here for Christmas and booked a regular Queen size room. They asked me if I would like an upgrade to a room with a view of the Chrysler building. I of course was thrilled, and advised I would wait. They phoned me when the room was available by 11:18 am and the room did not disappoint.  

How fantastic or not so fantastic was the room? Their rooms are always a very good size at 350 square feet, I feel especially for New York City. The furniture could use some updating but it isn't anything horrible. My phone was a bit spotty in the room but may have been because I was on the 23rd floor. I booked through hotels.com and was still treated very well. The safe is a great size, I put any valuables in there or items I may purchase that are on the pricey side, to be safe.

The cleanliness of the hotel and room itself ? The room was very clean and the hotel itself is very spotless.

Were you able to have sweet dreams with the comfy bed? All 398 rooms are outfitted with the cocoon-like SoBed, an indulgent down-topped mattress which is available to purchase to use at home if you wish. It is quite the extra comfy!

The All-Important bathroom subject? I LOVE the bathrooms in this hotel! I have had many different types of rooms, and it seems all the bathrooms are the same. Large, marble design, separate tub and  rain shower and plenty of room to get dressed. The fresh flower is another fine touch.

What kind of shower treats awaited you? Coffee maker in the room? No coffee maker in the room but wonderful Lanvin toiletries are for your use.

Did room service blow your mind or was just okay? So this was my breakfast Christmas morning with the Chrysler building. It is one of my favorite buildings in the city and such a treat to spend the holiday with! Room service was very good but the food could have been a bit hotter. Again, probably being on the 23rd floor didn't help matters.

Everyone wants to know, is Wi-Fi included? Yes, it is FREE ! 

Is Fido allowed come with you? Sofitel New York welcomes two pets of any size for a $300 refundable deposit. Both dogs and cats are permitted. Pets may not be left unattended in rooms. Treats, bowls, and beds are available. 

Location is key, how does this hotel measure? I love this location. You are 2 blocks from Bryant Park and near the theater district. You have access to 16 subway lines, or walk mostly anywhere in Midtown Manhattan in minutes, including Rockefeller Center. Also in the vicinity, Central Park is 15 blocks north and the Empire State Building is 10 blocks south. You are also within walking distance to the Flatiron and NoMad areas, 2 of my most favorite, with lots of fun shops and great restaurants.

What was the best part of staying here? I honestly have to say the customer service is number one. Number two would be the location and three would be the room size/bathroom size. The hotel is French/English speaking and the staff really go out of their way to accommodate their guests. I have never had a bad stay here and my first ever stay, I was upgraded to a Suite.

Would you change anything? I would probably add plugs in the lobby for charging devices and upgrade the room furniture which I think they have in the works.

Is this hotel worth it and why? The service is top notch, location perfect and room size fantastic for New York City. I will be staying again and again for the near future.


Overall Rating: 10/10

Conclusion: One of my favorite hotels in the city and one I will be staying at for many years to come. Never a bad choice, only issue may be to get the best rate available. It is worth $300 a night however if you have to pay that amount, I honestly don't think you can go wrong with this hotel. I have rated it in the past a 9 but with this stay, it has bumped itself to a 10. Perfect hotel.

Resort fees are something I am seeing at more New York hotels, about 82 of the over 400 hotels in New York City now charge. These fees can run you between $30 to $60 per night for your stay. They list services such as newspapers, in room coffee or WiFi for these fees, and if you book with a hotel that has this fee, you are obligated to pay it. When checking your prices, be sure to look for the small print if there is an additional resort fee and make your decision whether you want that additional charge. The Warwick New York Hotel Review

The Warwick Hotel in Midtown Manhattan is known to be one of the most historic hotels in NYC and has hosted many different celebrities throughout the years including "the king of Rock and Roll" Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and Cary Grant who was a long term resident. The renowned media tycoon Mr. William Randolph Hearst commissioned this iconic four-star hotel in 1926 for the love of his life, his muse and mistress the famous actress, Marion Davies.

I stayed at the Warwick New York when I was in the city for the press event for Michelangelo The Divine Draftsman exhibit at The Met. I choose the hotel because of it's location, and because the one time my Mom stayed in New York City, she told me she stayed at The Warwick. I wanted to experience the only hotel my Mom stayed, plus it has lots of history as well. 

The lobby is very old New York, and elegant. I arrived around 10am, and did ask for an early check in if possible. The room wasn't ready when I arrived, so I headed to breakfast at Murals on 54 until the room was ready. I did get a free upgrade to a larger premium room than I booked which was nice. The room was ready about 10:45, just as I finished breakfast. 

This just oozes elegance! 

Murals on 54 has wonderful murals to enjoy while dining. It is open for breakfast from 6:30 am to 10:45 am during the weekdays, and from 7:00 am to 11:30 am during the weekends / holidays. Designed by Pierre Court, the concept of the dining room was to accentuate the historic murals painted by Dean Cornwell in 1937. They were really very beautiful.  

My breakfast was okay, it did arrive quickly, but could have been more flavorful.  

The room was a very good size, especially for New York. It is for sure old New York, but everything was very well kept. The bed was very fluffy and comfortable. 

This was my view from my room, which is actually the route for the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. To stay here during that time would probably cost an arm and a leg, not to mention, pre-booked at least a year in advance. I was happy to see the Bluemercury store across the street, I enjoyed myself there for about an hour or so. 

I decided to order a burger from room service, I don't usually like to order as it is sooo expensive, but I like to see how they do for these reviews. I would NEVER order food here again. This burger was brought to me, supposed to be medium done, so glad I cut it with a fork before I started eating it. I called down and they brought me another which I thought should have been on the house, but I was charged accordingly for it. 

Nice fixtures in the room, in good condition.  

Bathroom very, very tiny and hard to get dressed in here if you needed to do so. There were no face towels provided which was a bit of a drag. I just used what was available. 

Large size closet, and many drawers available to store your clothes. I suggest always using the safe for any valuables you leave in your room, and if it is full, ask if there is one at the front desk. I read a review on trip adviser that someone left $1,400.00 worth of items in their room, NOT this hotel, and it was stolen because their safe in the room was full. If you have items to leave in the room that are that valuable, ask the front desk to store them in their safe. Many of the hotels do offer that service.   

I was back at Murals on 54 for breakfast the next day, it was decent but the potatoes were cold. I would for sure not dine here at all should I stay again. There are many places within walking distance, my favorite Maison Kayser is on 6th Avenue and West 56th Street, worth the walk. They are open from 7am to 10pm which covers every meal time and those in-between! 

Egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms was again, okay, but for the price, I would rather go elsewhere.  

They did have a surge protector outlet to charge a few devices at once, which was very handy for me to charge my phone and camera at the same time.   

Loved these vintage photos of the movie stars from the 1940's and 1950's.  

I wanted to take this phone home with me in the worst way! LOVE!

I do love the old mail shoot in some of the older, more vintage hotels. It must have been cool when these were in working condition.

Would I reserve a night at the Warwick New York again ? I believe I would, for the right price. I enjoyed my stay, the hotel is very elegant and feels like old New York. The location is great, you can walk just about anywhere. Location is a BIG deal in    New York City. If you pay a very cheap price for a hotel, and it is not close to anything you wish to explore, it really isn't      worth the cheaper price. The room was very big, for New York standards, and clean. I would never dine here should I stay  again, but there are so many options in the area it isn't that big of a deal. I enjoy a classic, vintage hotel if it is done right,    
and kept up, which this one has done.  

 My rating for this hotel, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being perfect in every way, is a 7.
