Visiting the Brooklyn Flea

A few weeks ago, I finally headed to the Brooklyn Flea ......it had been on my "to do" list for ages so glad to scratch this off the list....this was my view from the bus heading to Brooklyn

I am really thrilled they also opened a flea in Soho, and have that on my to do list to check out this fall !

It was a very hot day when we arrived......in the morning......I so prefer visiting this flea in the fall season

look at these vintage cameras!! how cool !! this is one of the best flea's and started around 2008.....

loved this for the dapper guys out there!! their website says they have about 125+ vendors but I thought it was smaller than what I was expecting.....this was the Sunday flea as they also have one on Saturday

I loved this neat hanging lamp ....the colors were great and the design very interesting......You can purchase some really unique items here, no doubt !!

just about anything you can think of vintage would be here as well as handmade jewelry and food items

okay, these doughnuts were amazing! I can't even begin to explain but they were so light and fluffy...like eating nothing but air .....the food will be it's own separate post.........

this reminded me of my mom's jewelry box...I hated the fact they were mostly clip and those clip earrings are quite the painful but oh so pretty !!

this painting was really neat.....didn't ask the price but would love to hang in my home

How cute is this guy?? Overall I enjoyed the experience, would like to go back when not as hot or in the winter when it is indoors so I can take the time to look more slowly.

With views like this, we were not complaining too much.....it was nice to sit and relax and just enjoy a Sunday in Brooklyn, New York.

Walking Around the Brooklyn Flea

The Brooklyn Flea is just a real fabulous event. I thought we would take a little stroll to check out the antiques, the food, and vintage items that can be found here. Here is some information on the flea from their website:

Founded in April 2008, Brooklyn Flea has grown into one of New York City's top attractions, operating flea markets every weekend of the year that feature hundreds of top vendors of antique and repurposed furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles and antiques, as well as a tightly curated selection of jewelry, art, and crafts by local artisans and designers, plus delicious fresh food. The New York Times called the Flea "One of the great urban experiences in New York"; Travel + Leisure, Country Living, Budget Travel, and Delta Sky ranked the Flea one of the best markets or antiques shows in the U.S.; and Time Out NY named the Flea one of New York's Essential Pick-Up Spots.

Right now the Flea is open every Saturday and Sunday at Skylight One Hanson, an event space in the landmark former Williamsburgh Savings Bank. The market features mix of 100+ vendors on three floors, including the lower-level vault and upstairs mezzanine: click here for a map and directions.

From April through Thanksgiving, the markets take place outdoors: on Saturdays in Fort Greene and on Sundays in Williamsburg. From Thanksgiving through March, the market moves indoors to Skylight One Hanson. And every summer you can find Flea food vendors at the Central Park SummerStage outdoor concert series, where the Flea operates the food and beverage concession.

These were so different and tasty. It is so neat to find foods you may never get to try in your hometown.

The flea has items for the guys, too, like these cool guitars. Women who play would be excited to see these as well.

Lobster Rolls. I do not need to say any more.

Porchetta is a favorite Italian pork treat and this place in New York City is one of the best. My mom makes a pretty good one at home, although it is not made as often as I would like.

Does that not look amazing?? With a wonderful homemade Italian roll, you are set. A smile on your face will for sure appear.

Saltie had some great food items as well ....so many to choose from here you cannot go wrong.

These sandwiches looked good and somewhat light too.

The views are amazing and it is a relaxing day from the fast pace of Manhattan.

Kumquat Cupcakery at the Brooklyn Flea

We are back at the Brooklyn Flea and the Kumquat Cupcakery table. I had heard about these cuppies for a while now so had to hunt them down while at the flea. The NY Times just had an article about the craze of mini-desserts from cannoli to cupcakes and it is just becoming more popular than ever. The mini size allows you to try different flavors, to just have a little dessert not to ruin the diet, or are really great for parties. I personally think the idea is marvelous and I am sure it will be here to stay. Now on to these cuppies:

Kumquat Cupcakery began October, 2007, by Keavy Landreth, who has an impressive education in food and design. The flavors here are Red Velvet, Strawberry, Maple Bacon, and Dark Chocolate. You can check out other flavors on their website HERE. They are really quite yummy with unique flavors. I really enjoy when these great bakers come up with flavor combos you would have never thought of and it tastes out-of-this-world. Pushing the cupcake envelope is what it is all about!!

Each dozen is $17
Orders are PICK UP ONLY at one of the Brooklyn Flea locations. We have no more weekly deliveries.
The minimum per order is THREE (3) dozen cupcakes.
All orders must be placed TWO (2) days prior to pick up at the Flea market.
Due to the delicate nature of frosting, we do not ship cupcakes.
All orders are nonrefundable unless cancelled 24 hours prior to pick up at flea.

Frgal Cake @ the Brooklyn Flea

The Brooklyn Flea really has some very unique food items as well as antiques....the Frgal Cake is one of them......

looks like a pizza, made from a recipe that is 200 years old and from the Czech Republic......

we were able to sample and they were really quite good....a unique dessert, not too sweet and the ingredients are good for your health......these are good things!!

this was the cheese and raisin which I sampled and it was really very good......they sell at the Brooklyn Flea on Sundays and I would highly suggest you try them and take some home...would make a very unique dessert for a party you are having or to bring to dinner with friends or family .....

Nana's @ Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg

Cecile Dyer, former pastry chef at Pie 'n' Thighs, covers frozen bananas in chocolate, with coconut, sprinkles, or sea salt. What more could you ask for?

Frozen Banannas....I am a bananna lover and these looked amazing...we found Nana's at the Brooklyn Flea but she is also at the new food flea Smorgasburg .....

I loved the colors of the sprinkles....and just love sprinkles in general .......brings you back to childhood

stirring that pot of chocolate smelled so good! be sure to stop by Nana's and try a frozen chocolate bananna!!

Photo Gallery Thursday "Mad Men at the Brooklyn Flea"

I finally visited the Brooklyn Flea and saw this great set up which reminded me of the show "Mad Men" ! The first thing I thought of when I saw it, so neat....I am sure that the show has increased sales of vintage clothing and furniture beyond control. Mad Men has been nominated for 19 emmys this year, if you do not watch the show, rent the DVD's.....it is pretty great stuff!!

It was a very hot day when we arrived......in the morning......I must also say if you go in the summer, wear closed shoes as those are all pebbles on that floor and I had many getting in my sandals while walking....
