Musical Instruments Room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

One of the reasons I really love the Metropolitan Museum of Art is because it has such a diverse selection of exhibits. Many of you many not know that they have a wonderful music room, with fabulous antique displays. Anyone who may be into music, or a musician, would love to wander around this part of the museum. I think it is great when you have a museum which appeals to men, women and kids, you cannot go wrong visiting the Met when you visit NYC !!

The Museum's collection of musical instruments includes approximately five thousand examples from six continents and the Pacific Islands, dating from about 300 B.C. to the present. It illustrates the development of musical instruments from all cultures and eras. Selected for their technical and social importance as well as for their tonal and visual beauty, the instruments may be understood in a number of ways: as art objects, as ethnographic record, and as documents of the history of music and performance.

You feel like you are stepping back in time when you visit this area of the museum. So many historic instruments to see in person and appreciate all the work that went into making them!!

Have you visited this part of the museum? Did you enjoy it ?
