The Kitano Hotel Gift Shop

I had heard quite a bit about the Kitano Hotel Gift Shop, and was thrilled to be able to check it out on a recent trip to the city. The Kitano Hotel is the only Japanese hotel owned in New York City. The location is quite fabulous, midtown east, Park Avenue and East 38th Street. Let's go shopping!!
The items in this gift shop are quite unique and fun. I am always looking for places that have different products.
Wonderful New York City souvenirs can be found here
Love this taxi cab !! Just too cute !!
Cupcakes are the rage here as well, in the form of bath bombs .......
These little boxes were so darn cute, and were very affordable.
Love love these salt and pepper shakers!!
These were really unique as well. I had to behave in here, and it was very, very hard. I wanted to purchase so many things!
The jar openers had such cute designs, what a fun item!
They also had a great selection of teas and chocolates as well.
The lobby of the hotel is quite grand.
A gold elevator will make anyone happy to travel inside!
Hotel gift shops can sometimes be the best places for unique and original merchandise. When you go past a hotel while walking around the city, take a peek inside and see what their gift shop holds. Sometimes you find a gem like this one in the Kitano Hotel, and then you will be sure to be back in the future.

America's Romance with Chocolate:
A Sweet Social History

Lecture and Tasting
Tuesday, February 4, 6:30 p.m.

1850s-chocolate-adJoin us for a delectable evening of talk and tasting as we celebrate our country’s long love affair with chocolate. Culinary historian Cathy Kaufman will present an illustrated lecture followed by a tasting in our period kitchen of handmade chocolate truffles by chef Wai Hon Chu, paired with wine.

At the start of the 19th century, ladies ceremonially drank a breakfast chocolate — touted as a health food — from exquisite porcelain cups. But by mid-century, advances in manufacturing had turned this liquid delight into the chocolate bars that we know today, a portable confection and a luscious treat. This illustrated lecture will trace chocolate’s changing role and form in the social history of 19th century New York.

$40, $75 per couple, to benefit the Historic Furnishings Plan restoration. Click here for tickets.

Photo Gallery Tuesday " Red Bee Honey"

I came across this photo from the 2011 Coffee and Tea Festival in New York City. Pumpkin Blossom and Orange Blossom Honey! How fabulous! I am a big lover of honey, we use it in our tea of course but also in hot cereal too. I love to bake with honey as well as it gives baked goods such a great flavor. These flavors are from Red Bee Honey  founded by Marina Marchese, who is a honey sommelier, similar to wine. Honey is also known for being very good for you health wise, which gives you one more reason to enjoy it on a regular basis!
Do you use honey? What is your favorite brand?

Miss NiNi's Fine Desserts "Create your own Cheesecake" Review

Disclousure: I received Miss NiNi's Cheesecake Sampler for the purpose of this review. The opinions expressed here are completely my own based on my own experience with this product. I only recommend products and/or services that I have personally used or feel will be good for my readers.

I was thrilled to be contacted to see if I wished to try Miss NiNi's Cheesecake Sampler! I am a huge fan of cheesecake, and am always excited to try something new. Miss NiNi has been awarded several blue ribbons for her baking in the famous Iowa State Fair, so she really knows what she is doing!

I really love the idea of a 4 flavor cheesecake, as usually at family gatherings or parties, folks like different flavors of dessert. This is a great way to give everyone a little something of what they like, without having to purchase various desserts at once. The size of this is quite large, 9 inch diameter, serving 12-16 guests. My flavors which I picked were: Best of the Best Lemon (for my Mom), Peanut Butter Fudge, Pumpkin Praline and Italian Tiramisu. They are also available as a full size cheesecake as well if you have a flavor you really love!
The Italian Tiramisu was really the first we had to try. So light and fluffy, not overly sweet, such a refreshing dessert!!  I am so happy to find a cheesecake that is not "heavy" or make you feel too full after enjoying some with your cup of tea or coffee.
My whole family just loves peanut butter so the Peanut Butter Fudge was a must! I really like the fact that these cheesecakes are so light and airy, and not overly sweet. The flavor is so intense, the cheesecake so fresh. This also sits atop a peanut butter crust. Heaven!
The Best of the Best Lemon was ordered for my Mom. She had been in the hospital when this arrived, so it was good incentive for her to get back home quickly. My Mom loves lemon anything, especially cheesecake. I can't begin to say how wonderful this flavor tasted. Full-flavored, delicate and divine are some of the words to describe this cheesecake. Would make a great Mother's Day gift if your Mom too is a lover of lemon desserts!!
Pumpkin Praline Cheesecake was just another fine example that Miss NiNi knows how to bake, and bake extremely well. The topping was out-of-this-world pecans, cinnamon sugar crumble. The smoothness of these cheesecakes is such a treat to the palate. I am so thrilled I was able to be introduced to Miss Ni Ni's Fine Desserts and to be able to bring these luscious selections to my readers!!

What flavor would you choose for your "Create Your Own Cheesecake"? It can be very hard just picking 4 selections, believe me!! These now ship nationwide, along with some other fantastic dessert offerings on the Miss NiNi Fine Desserts website.

Miss NiNi's cheesecake flavors include Peanut Butter Fudge, Italian Tiramisu, Creamy Vanilla, Lemon Raspberry Swirl, Caramel Chocolate Chunk, Decadent Turtle, Best of the Best Lemon, Velvet Fudge, Pumpkin Praline, and Chocolate Raspberry.
