Ellen Easton @ The 2011 Coffee and Tea Festival NYC

It is getting close to the Coffee and Tea Festival in New York City! I attended the event February of 2011 for the first time and it was just amazing!! They not only have wonderful vendors with amazing coffee and tea, but informative programs and the Ultimate Barista Challenge.......
Ellen Easton is a real authority on Afternoon Tea or Low Tea. She has consulted some of the leading hotel brands as The Plaza, The Stanhope, Waldorf-Astoria and Lady Mendl's Tea Room in New York City. She believes tea is the luxury everyone can afford. I really like her idea of tea and how it can be enjoyed by any class of society.
Ellen gave a wonderful lecture about how tea came about and what you can or should serve to your guests. The history of tea goes as far back as when Marie Antoinette ruled France. We learned about Devonshire (clotted) cream and heard about the difference between Afternoon Tea and High Tea.
Ellen did a question and answer period which I thought was really nice for the crowd.
Questions ranged from what kind of tea is best to use to what type of desserts should be served
When we were finished, we received these adorable desserts, a Walkers Shortbread as they were one of the sponsors, an Almondina biscotti and a lovely petit four. Quite the tasty indeed !!
Harney and Sons is one of my favorite teas and they had their amazing loose tea available. Ellen says any type of tea can be used for your Afternoon Tea gathering, whatever your preference or what is affordable to you.

You can find out more about Ellen HERE. The great blog by Abby titled City Sweet Tooth wrote a wonderful post of having tea at Lady Mendl's with Ellen HERE.
