The Muse Hotel New York - Review

My stay at the Muse Hotel  was a pretty nice one all in all. Would I stay again....let's see...... The hotel is located at 130 West 46th Street and very near lots of subways and attractions. It is rated #49 out of 431 hotels in NYC on Trip Advisor which for me said it was a good choice. It is also part of the Kimpton Boutique hotel chains which are always rated very high.
Bathrooms in NYC hotels are always a big deal because they are usually very small. I like a decent size bathroom, even if I am traveling solo and this one was a good size. There was also good counter space for all my necessities brought from home. I was disappointed the cord on the blow dryer was very short, and I brought my own because I didn't know if one was in the room as the website did not say. The towels were also a bit rough, kind of card boardy ....I was surprised at that.
Nice bath toiletries was a fun touch .....I had arrived at 1:00pm and the room was not yet ready but check in was not really until 3pm but I did request early check in. I probably got into the room around 2:30.
The room itself, a King Deluxe, was nice. The decor was fun and very modern. I think if 2 people stayed in the room however it would be a bit cramped. The bed was very comfy and sheets soft. The photo above right was waiting for me when I came back to the room the first day after being out and about. A nice welcome with granola/fruit/yogurt. A very personal touch. I had received a password from the hotel via twitter and received a free breakfast, drink or a movie voucher. My biggest issue was with the no-coffee-maker-in-the-room. I had requested one as I was told if you did so, they would bring you one. I like to sometimes have coffee in the room while getting ready, especially if I am heading to an event early and don't really want to have coffee in the restaurant downstairs. Well, I had told the staff 3 times for a coffee-maker and never received one. I think they could have done a bit better in the customer service end on this regard.
I ended up using my free breakfast voucher on my last day there because I didn't have to get out that early. I was not really impressed with the breakfast spread, it was okay. Basic fruit, small pastries, coffee was a bit strong to my liking and juice. I was happy I didn't have to pay for it as usually the breakfasts in the hotel are quite pricey and you are really better to go to a cafe in the city. Newspapers were available and need to be requested if you were not a Kimpton member to be delivered to your room. The staff was very friendly and it did seem to have a different feel than your chain hotels.
I took these gorgeous bottles home as they make a great vase for a flower or two.....great blue color!!
This funky phone was in the hallway for use and I had to photograph it. I really enjoyed the decor of the hotel as it was not the kind you see in the chain hotels. Very unique and original.

Hotel prices are at their lowest in the months of January and February; their highest September and October. Sunday nights are the lowest prices for hotel rooms, in most cases. My go to places for checking prices for hotels are TrivagoTrip AdvisorHotels.com and Travelzoo. I am learning quite a bit about booking hotels during this process of featuring different hotels on this blog.

Always remember to check the hotel's website itself, they are really trying to have you book direct and sometimes offer specials or a discount with AAA that is cheaper than the websites I mentioned above. I am also finding that if you book on your mobile device, you can save some money as well. I actually got a better rate via my mobile phone than using my AAA discount online direct at the hotel. You should really do some research on your price for hotel a few different ways, and ALWAYS book a room that you can cancel, you never know what may happen in the future.

Remember to take into account for your total cost the NYC Hotel tax of 14.75% plus Daily $2.00 per room occupancy fee.

So in the end would I stay here again? Yes, I would. The staff was very helpful (except for my coffee maker issue), hotel was clean and comfortable and the location was near subways/restaurants/destinations. I think I would try to get a better price on rooms than the full price if possible. It is also wise to be a Kimpton member as you have many freebies with that and there is no charge to join. You also have evening wine hour as they have an extensive wine collection and the hotel is pet friendly (I was shocked to not see any animals on my visit). It was nice staying somewhere different because you can get to know a new area of the city which is  a positive in every way. I also must say the manager worked with me for my rate for attending the US Open tennis due to the weather issues in late August as I had to change my dates twice!

My rating for this hotel, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being perfect in every way, is a 7.

Oh, I agree about having morning java at a coffee house, but I do like to have it in the hotel room if I have to attend an event in the morning and am in a bit of a rush. It is a small request, and I felt with the quality of the hotel, it shouldn't have been a problem.
