The last few days have been quite crazy in my hometown. We had dealt with quite a bit of rain, which brought the Susquehanna River to levels that are now considered a "historic" level. The Susquehanna River rose to 42.66 feet and a levee system that was to hold up to 41 kept the river at bay from my area. It surpassed the previous record high of 40.91 feet during Tropical Storm Agnes in 1972.
This was a main road near my home, and it was so covered with water I couldn't believe it. I did not remember Agnes so for me this was really very unreal to see in person.
This shot you can see the Stop sign and a bus stop to the left which eventually would be covered with water. Many businesses and homes were heavily damaged with this flooding. Water can be a pretty powerful force indeed.
A closer shot of the stop sign and bus sign. This flood has damaged so many homes and businesses throughout so many counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania, some that never were affected in the 1972 Agnes Flood were affected pretty badly.
A photo from today of that same area where the water is finally receding. There is now so much clean-up for so many people and I am sure they have lost much inside their homes as well as possible damage to the home itself.
We were very lucky, we did not have any damage at all, but I know people in areas that have had much damage. It is going to be a while before things get back to normal for many families.

This is the Tribute in Light and is made to honor those from the events on September 11th. Tomorrow being the 10 year anniversary, it makes us see how people can get together when times are tough and become stronger. I am sure in my area with the recent flooding, that is what we will be seeing in the weeks to come. I know I see that in New York City every time I visit, and I look forward to the opening tomorrow of the memorial honoring those who lost their lives on that day.

Oh my goodness, these photos are extraordinary. What extreme weather you've been having! I wish your community well and peaceful, uneventful times ahead.
Thank you Karen...we can use some uneventful times in the next few weeks for sure.
Water will always find its way and can be so destructive. Glad you escaped the trauma that has been heaped on to so may of your neighbours.
