La Bonne Soupe on West 55th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue is a great place for lunch or dinner. I had the pleasure of meeting Abby, of the wonderful blog City Sweet Tooth, here during my stay for a few days to the city the end of August. We had a great choice of their excellent soup, bread, salad, beverage and dessert for $19.50! A pretty good deal not just in New York City but any city! The food was wonderful, and the company was great as well, I would be sure to have this on your "to do" list when visiting the city.
