Support NYC Businesses: Veniero Pasticceria

I feel the need to showcase for you some of the wonderful NYC businesses that are having a bit of a hard time during this pandemic. There are so many wonderful places in the city which have been around for over 100 years, survived the Spanish Flu in 1918 - two world wars and September 11th - but are finding this 2020 COVID-19 pandemic very hard. I realize many of you are not traveling or staying close to home, but many of these places deliver their products. Now is the time to try delivery to treat yourself to a bit of NYC right in your own home. I have had food delivery many times and I tell you, they do a great job packing the items and having them arrive in perfect condition. Some ship direct from their website and many ship from Goldbelly. Here is the first of many we will feature, Veniero's in the East Village which has some of the BEST Italian pastries around.

Window was decorated sweet and I loved the stain glass at the top.......
Of course they have cannoli, but as you can see, chocolate and vanilla cream which I do not see everywhere. The cream is the "correct" cream as I call it, made with ricotta which I could eat alone with a spoon.

I was delirious looking at these cases of pastry and there are quite a bit of them
I had brought a cooler with me to be able to take items with cream to not worry about getting spoiled until I got home. You must come prepared when you visit a place like this. It is a must!!
They make their own maripan, which iss a confection made of almonds reduced to a paste with sugar & often molded into different forms, usually diminutive fruits & vegetables.
Did I mention the cannoli? I love the choices of chocolate shell with chocolate cream.....you must really love chocolate for this cannoli !!
So many dainty works of pastry art adorned these cases......I couldn't help but smile !!
For the fruit lovers out there, wonderful little tarts with pastry cream await you .......
This is probably my second favorite Italian dessert to cannoli. It is just so light and fluffy and nice after a meal as not too sweet or heavy.
I took home a lobster tail and oh my goodness. Veniero's says if a croissant and a cannoli had a baby, it would be a lobster tail. Yes, this is what life is all about.
Is if very filled you ask? Why yes it is as you can see above. They do ship these as well so you could enjoy these for a small gathering or just for yourself. I think anytime is lobster tail time!
The good news is they ship their items! Click on their name below for their website and see what you would like to order.....you cannot go wrong with any items here. They are made in the old-world style with care and passion which you cannot find in just any bakery.

Veniero's ships direct from their website. The store has outside seating and you can order to pick up items to take home as well. Gift cards are also available for friends/family to use at a later date or they can use the card to order online to have goodies shipped to their door.

Leonelli Focacceria e Pasticceria

We are still in the NoMad section today, NoMad stands for North of Madison Square Park, one of my favorites areas of the city. While staying at The Evelyn Hotel, review to come shortly, I visited the most talked about Leonelli Focacceria e Pasticceria. Italian pastry just kind of draws me in!  La Colombe coffee was some of the best lattes I ever enjoyed along with their pastries.

The pistachio croissant was to die for. I can't even begin to tell you how awesome it was. I brought home a tin of their cookies to try each one. The cannoli cake was just adorable and great for 1 or 2 people to celebrate a birthday! The pizza or focaccia is so darn tasty and lots of flavors to choose from, you can even just get half a piece for a taste. The place opened last year, and they also have a full service restaurant in the hotel as well. This is for sure a MUST stop when in the area, it is quite a treat if you are looking for savory or sweet dining.

10 Best Italian Bakeries in NYC

Everyone loves a bakery, right? Italain bakeries are pretty amazing, however, I do feel the French come in a close second, or can share the top spot with the Italian ones! There are some bakeries in NYC that opened in the 1800's which shows you how good the quality must be to be open that long. Some have closed, which is sad, so we need to visit the fabulous ones that are still in business. Along with my favorite, cannoli, they make some wonderful desserts. I would suggest a visit to all below, if possible, and here they are, in no particular order:

LaGuli

Ferrara Bakery

Pasticceria Rocco

Venieros Pastry

Famous Rimini Bakery

Circos Pastry Shop

Caffe Roma Pastry

Eataly NYC

Court Pastry Shop Brooklyn

La Bella Ferrara Bakery
