Isaac Mizrahi Family Day at the Jewish Museum

I was thrilled to receive this information from The Jewish Museum about Isaac Mizrahi Family Day! I had to share so if you are in the city, you can add this to your "things to do" list. This is a most wonderful exhibit, and it looks like they will have some fun activities on this day.

Fun-Filled Isaac Mizrahi Family Day at the Jewish Museum Sunday, May 15

NEW YORK, NY – The Jewish Museum will present Isaac Mizrahi Family Day, a fun-filled day of activities, on Sunday, May 15 from 12 noon to 4pm.  Families can celebrate the striking and colorful world of fashion on view in the exhibition, Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History, at a huge drop-in art workshop, hear the hip Grammy award-winning music of Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, and take gallery tours of the exhibition. This event, for children age 3 and up, is free with Museum admission.   Adults are asked to accompany their children.  For further information regarding family programs at The Jewish Museum, the public may call 212.423.3337 or visit TheJewishMuseum.org/programs/families.  The Jewish Museum is located at Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street, Manhattan. ISAAC MIZRAHI FAMILY DAY EVENTS  - SUNDAY, MAY 15, 2016 Noon – 4pm HUGE DROP-IN ART WORKSHOP Families can choose from three projects: Hat Sculptures Design imaginative sculptural hats with metallic board, textured papers, colored tape, and wire. Wearable Art Use found objects and other unexpected materials to create wearable works of arts inspired by the playful materials and textures Isaac Mizrahi incorporates into his designs. Fashion Poses Capture wearable creations on camera and strike a fabulous pose as a family at a professional photo booth. 12:30pm and 2:15pm Concerts LUCKY DIAZ AND THE FAMILY JAM BAND Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band will link their inventive and colorful style to the vibrant work of Isaac Mizrahi. Families can dance to songs about color, and pattern with indie music sounds rooted in the band’s whimsical child-friendly imagination. Garnering a Latin Grammy Award for their album ¡Fantastico! and an Emmy Award for their work on the PBS show Friday Zone, the husband and wife duo Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis have been named “THE face of kindie music” by The Washington Post.Their sun-filled pop beats have been featured by NPR’s All Things Considered, NPR Music, Billboard Magazine, The New York Times, and Univision. Logging hundreds of thousands of miles and sharing the music of their seven albums, Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band bring smart, crafty lyrics with irresistibly fresh pop beats. 1:00pm to 3:00pm PATTERN PRINTS Kids can use printmaking techniques to create patterned fabric made with funky shaped stamps, colors, and textures. 1:15pm and 3:00pm ISAAC MIZRAHI SPOTLIGHT TOURS  Jewish Museum educators will lead brief tour and sketching experience spotlighting looks in Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History.

The Jewish Museum is presenting the first exhibition focused on Isaac Mizrahi, the influential American fashion designer, artist, and entrepreneur, until August 7, 2016.  Through over 250 works, including clothing and costume designs, sketches, photographs, and an immersive video installation, this survey exhibition explores Mizrahi’s unique position at the intersection of high style and popular culture.  While best known for his work in fashion, Mizrahi’s creativity has expanded over a three decade career to embrace acting, directing, set and costume design, writing, and cabaret performance. Beginning with his first collection in 1987 and running through the present day, Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History weaves together the many threads of Mizrahi's prolific output, juxtaposing work in fashion, film, television, and the performing arts.

Isaac Mizrahi Family Day is made possible through the generosity of New York City Councilmember Daniel R. Garodnick. Additional support is provided through public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

The Edgar M. Bronfman Center for Education’s school and family programs are supported by endowed funds established by the Bronfman Family, the Muriel and William Rand Fund, the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, the Helena Rubinstein Foundation, Rosalie Klein Adolf, the Kekst Family, and Mrs. Ida C. Isaac Mizrahi An Unruly History Part 2

We are back at the Jewish Museum for Part 2 of this great Isaac Mizrahi exhibit. If you missed Part 1, you can click on PART 1 to check it out! How cool is the photo above? These designs were for theater and movies, he makes costumes quite well! 

Just too darn much! Love it ! 

This guy had to be a fashion writer or designer. He followed me to the Copper Hewitt next for another fashion exhibit - loved his sense of style! 

Look at those eyelashes!! 

I would wear this in a heartbeat! Sequin parka has my name written all over it! 

I really loved the color design of this cape. Just so classic. 

One of my very favorites - such great use of color! 

The gorgeous outside of The Jewish Museum leaves you speechless. That sky was so blue, and made a great backdrop against the design of the museum. If you love fashion, be sure to check out this exhibit, it will educate and astonish you at the same time.

Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History Part 1

I had the extreme pleasure of checking out the new Isaac Mizarhi exhibit at the Jewish Museum this past weekend. It is titled An Unruly History, and is a MUST see exhibit. I have been a fan of his for a long time, I love his designs and his personality! This post will be in 2 parts as I didn't want to not show you all the fabulous clothes that are showcased. I am a person who loves color, and Isaac really embraces that in his work. If you go to the museum on a Saturday, entrance fee is FREE, which is a lovely perk.

About Isaac Mizrahi:

Isaac Mizrahi (b. 1961) was born in Brooklyn, New York. Raised in a Jewish family, he attended the Yeshiva of Flatbush before transferring to New York City’s High School for the Performing Arts, followed by Parsons School of Design. He entered the New York fashion scene in the late 1980s; his clothing line, Isaac Mizrahi New York, debuted at Bergdorf Goodman in 1986. In 1989 he received the Perry Ellis Award for Emerging Talent and was named Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Womenswear Designer of the Year, an award he won again in 1991. Unzipped, a riotous, witty, and insightful documentary about the making of his fall 1994 collection, earned Mizrahi and director Douglas Keeve the 1995 Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. When his fashion house closed in 1998, Mizrahi followed other passions in theater and dance, designing costumes and sets for Mark Morris and Twyla Tharp in addition to winning a 2002 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Costume Design for a Broadway revival of Clare Boothe Luce’s The Women. In 2003 he was the first fashion designer to launch a line of well-designed, affordable clothes in collaboration with Target.

Today he stars inIsaac Mizrahi Live! a call-in home shopping TV show that airs weekly on the QVC network. He also appears as a judge on Project Runway All Stars.Since 2013, Mizrahi has directed and narrated the annual Peter and the Wolf at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, directed and designed The Magic Flute and A Little Night Music for the Opera Theater of Saint Louis, and worked the red carpet at the Oscars and Golden Globe Awards. He is currently at work on a television series and memoir.

Such a gorgeous building this museum calls home, the former Felix M Warburg house. The Warburg's were international bankers from Germany in the 20th century. Following Felix Warburg's death in 1937, in January 1944 his widow Frieda donated the family mansion to the seminary as a permanent home for the museum, and the site opened to the public as 'The Jewish Museum' in May 1947. The building was expanded in 1963 and by architect Kevin Roche in 1993. I must say, I took a good long look at the outside of this building, just to admire it's beauty. 

As you first walk in, a wall of swatches appears in various colors and patterns. 

This jacket was beyond beautiful! 

They really show you many of Isaac's sketches for his designs, which I thought was very interesting. What a wonderful experience for an up-and-coming designer to be able to see.
