Sunrise Soap Company

I visited the Sunrise Soap Company last year and wanted to share the shop with you. I love homemade soaps and scrubs, you know what the product is made from and you are giving sales to a small business!
When you walk in, the smell is so fantastic! The shop is located in York, Pa but they do sell their products online.

Homemade soap is so awesome and this smelled so good. I did purchase one of these and it was very hydrating on the skin.

These pumpkin soaps smelled good enough to eat!
I loved the various scents of the scrubs. Scrubs are great for removing the dead skin and allows for your body cream to absorb much better.
These looked good enough to eat even though they were soaps!

You can actually watch them making the soap in the shop which I thought was pretty cool

Their prices online include shipping which I think is pretty great, an easy way to shop for some homemade soaps and lotions. They even have items for your pets as well!
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone on this February 14th !!

Cooking with Botticelli Olive Oil

I was contacted by Botticelli to sample some of their products which was very exciting. Coming from an Italian family, I really miss all the cooking and baking that went on in my home. I found I am a much better cook than I thought after my Mom passed away and I started cooking more often. I was amazed that cooking by my Mom's side I did learn a few things or two! Olive Oil is one of the best oils you can use, for just about anything. It is the only oil I use in my home.

Here is some info from the Botticelli website:

Botticelli Organic Extra Virgin contains only the best olives that are carefully selected for their high quality and flavor, and they are also pesticide-free. This delectable olive oil is the natural unprocessed product of the first cold pressing of olives, giving it a green color that is full of olive fruit flavor and characteristic aroma.

Botticelli’s Organic Extra Virgin olive oil is crafted according to International Olive Oil Council (IOOC) Standards, and can be used for cooking, sautéing, and as a topping for any dish.

We used to have fried fish for Christmas Eve dinner, the feast of the 7 fishes, and I just LOVE homemade fried fish. You can control the salt ( I use salt free bread crumbs) and you use olive oil for frying, it is a bit healthier. I purchased some fresh cod to make the fish, and what I do is freeze them in packs of 2 for when I want to enjoy them. Cooking for one can be a challenge, but I wish we had thought of this when my Mom was still here. It makes the house smell amazing as well.
In my egg wash I add parmesan cheese, italian seasoning, pepper and in my breadcrumbs I like to add tumeric. The tumeric doesn't really do much for the flavor, it makes the crust a nice yellow color and it is very healthy for you.
You dip the fish in flour, then egg and then breadcrumbs. I can make oysters this way as well and they come out amazing!
The Botticelli olive oil was very nice to cook with, and I plan on purchasing more in the future.
Totally yummy and so golden in color!
Botticelli has wonderful pasta and sauces which the pasta makes a great side dish to the fried fish. You could also top the fish with some mozzarella cheese and sauce for a different taste! Choose from one of six sauces: Marinara, Tomato Basil, Alla Vodka, Roasted Garlic, Fra Diavolo and Vegan-friendly Bolognese Sauce.

You can notice a difference when you use good Italian products for your cooking. When you use quality ingredients, with only a few items you can have a most tasty meal. I think that is what I love about Italian cooking, simple, high quality ingredients are so darn good!! If you have not tried any products from the Botticelli line, I suggest you give them a try. You will not be disappointed!

Homemade Cannoli Muffins

I am a lover of baking and just love muffins! When I purchased this new book, 750 Best Muffin Recipes by Camilla V. Saulsbury...I was thrilled to find a cannoli muffin recipe. She has so many different types of muffins from gluten-free to vegan to savory, it really is a great book for the muffin lover. If you are going to eat a muffin, better you make it yourself and you know what is inside!

This was such an easy recipe and they came out just amazing!! I used Canola oil instead of the butter to make it a bit healthier and it came out just great. I also used half Whole Wheat Pastry Flour with the All-Purpose Flour which I do in most of my recipes. I love the almond flavoring but I used Vanilla Bean Paste  which is Madagascar Vanilla with bean seeds throughout which gives much more flavor. I also love Fiori di Sicilia   which is an all-natural combination of citrus and vanilla with a pleasingly floral aroma and you only need a very small amount.
Cannoli Muffins

2 cups all purpose flour         500ml
2 tsp baking powder               10ml
1/2 tsp salt                               2ml
1/4 tsp baking soda                 1ml
2/3 cup granulated sugar      150ml
2 eggs
3/4 whole milk ricotta          175ml
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted  125ml
1 tsp vanilla                                  5ml
3/4 tsp almond extract                  3ml
3/4 cup mini chocolate chips     175ml
1/2 cup roasted pistachios, coarsely chopped   125ml

Preheat oven to 400 degrees (200 C)
12 cup muffin pan greased or lined with muffin liners
1. In a large bowl, whisk together four, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, cheese, butter, vanilla and almond extract until well blended.
3. Add egg mix to flour mix and stir till well blended. Gently fold in chocolate chips and pistachios.
4. Divide batter equally among prepared muffin cups.
5. Bake in preheated oven for 22 -25 minutes or until tops are golden and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 5 minutes before transfer to a rack to cool.

I can't wait to try some more muffin recipes like Golden Olive Oil, Madeleine, Rum and Coconut, Bacon Maple Corn, Pecan Cornmeal !!

Best New York City 2014 Holiday Markets

Gingerbread House on view at The Palace Hotel

New York City is a wonderful shopping destination, as many of you know. During the holiday season, when we are looking for gifts for family and friends, it is always a good idea to look at the various holiday markets. You can purchase one of a kind items, and often the person making the product is selling it to you. I always try to find gifts that are unique, and something that someone else will not have. I like originality, I am not a fan of running with the crowd. These markets are located at various parts of the city, so depending on where you are visiting, you probably can visit at least one. Some of these run on certain dates, so if you click my links below, it will take you to their website & give date/time information.

In no particular order:

Artists and Fleas Brooklyn Holiday Market
Artists and Fleas Design and Vintage Market at Chelsea Market

Columbus Circle Holiday Market
The Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park
The Holiday Gift Shops at St Bartholomew's Church
