10 Best Costume Shops in NYC

I can't say Halloween is my favorite holiday. When I was little, my Mom actually made all my costumes and they were pretty cool. She had quite a knack for doing things like that. I never did well in Singer Sewing School, just wasn't my thing. I would be more happy to purchase something, but not a plastic get-up from some basic store. Something unique, cool and maybe even classy! In New York City, there are so many options and even the vintage shops are a great place to get some neat apparel and accessories. The Manhattan Vintage Show is held the end of October, great place for guys and gals to find some very cool costumes!! Actually, any of the vintage shops in Chelsea or Soho would be a perfect spot to pick up some items for a very unique costume.

In no particular order, here is my top 10 list :

Spirit Halloween
Ricky's Halloween Pop Up
Screaming Mimi's
Abracadabra Superstore
Patricia Field
Early Halloween
Trash and Vaudeville
Frank Bee Costume
New York Costumes
Manhattan Vintage Show

What was your favorite costume as a child? Mine was a princess, of course! My Dad made my wand and crown with cardboard covered with tin foil. My parents were pretty crafty folks!!

Happy Halloween from Chelsea Market

Happy Halloween! I cannot believe tomorrow is November! The time has just been flying by this year! I thought I would show some scenes from Chelsea Market as they have some pretty scary Halloween decor.
Did you know located in Chelsea Market was the National Biscuit Company? The former home office of Nabisco, it is such a small world, isn't it ?
If you stop here you need to stop by our favorite Fat Witch for some totally wonderful brownies.
The baby witches are just too cute to eat!

No matter how many times I see this guy, I still get spooked!  He really could use a teeth whitening system!

They really go all out for this holiday!
I wish I could carve a pumpkin that well

Another must stop is the Artists and Fleas, especially for unique holiday gifts
Pamela Barsky's stand is one of my absolute faves!

Hours: Monday - Saturday: 7am to 2am, Sunday: 8am to 10pm
Address: 75 9th Avenue (Between 15th and 16 Streets), New York, NY 10011

Halloween at L.A. Burdick Chocolate Shop and Cafe

We are back at our friends at L.A. Burdick in the Flatiron district. I had a charity trip to the city in early October, and brought a few co-workers to see how lovely this place can be. Paula Burdick was so kind to also donate a basket to raffle off on our trip, and someone celebrating their birthday won it! Paula is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She is currently in Grenada working with the cocoa farmers which I think is totally amazing. This chocolate haunted house smelled so so good. Very hard not to just take a bite of it !!
Coffins with candy inside for Halloween so much fun !
The presentation of everything is very elegant
Our selections were all different - a very chocolate cake, coconut cake and a vanilla cake with cream in the center. Such a happy day !!
I was my warm self that day, so opted for an iced latte and yummy cake
Pumpkin latte with a coconut cake here made my co-worker smile
This is a true chocolate lover. LA Burdick's famous cocoa and a wonderful chocolate cake
Nothing was left in the end
I am a sucker for anything pumpkin, this looks so amazing

My piece I took home to share with my Mom was very photogenic !!
The linzer cake was just so tasty, for those who love linzer cookies like my Mom, it is heaven!!

I hope I have tempted you to stop by when you are in the Flatiron district. It is such a lovely quaint cafe to sit and enjoy some wonderful desserts and top of the line chocolates. A real gem in the glorious Flatiron area of NYC !!

Revised 10/20/2016: Our friends LA Burdick are now in the trendy area of Soho! Be sure to stop by and say hello!

Photo Gallery Thursday "Halloween at Papyrus"

I recently popped in the city, and in my favorite store, Papyrus. If you have never been in one, they are really fabulous for fancy, unique cards and stationary items. They are just an ultimate stationary store. They had these 2 cuties for the Halloween season, I was very tempted to purchase both, but I am not in need of Halloween decor. I don't know which one is cuter? Are you big on decorating for the Halloween season? I can't believe it is the middle of October already. Where did the time go? Hope your Thursday is a most fabulous one!!
