My visit to the city is always finding new and exciting places. The village is such a great place to explore and from being there the last few times, it is not crowded like midtown - give yourself a change and head down there for the day. Explore the wonderful historic little streets and see what you find. I read about this place in Time Out NY but came across it and well, was not disappointed - but when ever am I disappointed in NYC?

such a cute bag they packed those cookies in ....

the wonderful cookies...now they are $29.00 a pound However they are worth every penny! And you do not have to get a whole pound...they were so nice here and I will most definitely be back....it is a must see in the village. The cookies with the chocolate chunks are called Cantucci (similar to biscotti but different texture) and the second one are “Bruttiboni” (“ugly-but-good”), also known as "Mandorlati di San Clemente," are sweets typical of Prato. They are mostly made of white sweet almonds, egg white, sugar and hazelnuts...shaped by hand and cooked in the oven on a thin wafer. 

 I cannot say enough how amazing these were.....but they were amazing. Make a note of this place. You will be happy you did after you leave.          Trust me.

Faicco's Italian Specialty Shop in Greenwich Village

After a little Tudor post, we are back in the village. This shop has been operating since 1900 and specializes in homemade italian delicacies! When I had one of my charity trips to the city, I made sure to bring a cooler with me so I could take home some of these delicious items. You cannot go wrong with anything in this shop!! Let us have a peek, shall we....

The Original Greenwich Village Food and Culture Walking Tour

Greenwich Village is one of the most wonderful places in NYC! It is a definite must see for any visitor and a do not miss on the "to do" list. I have been going to the city for a very long time and for those who are familiar but want to do something different, food and walking tours are great!! The one I am to talk about today is very popular and runs 7 days a week, year round. You have a great overview of the history, culture and restaurants of the village. You can order your tickets online via their website which I will post at the bottom and cost runs about $44.00 each. It is good to try to go during the weekdays if possible as the shops/restaurants will not be as crowded. Let's see some of the places you will run into on your tour:

Murray's Cheese is one of the most famous cheese shops 

Amy's Bread is a great bakery that you will walk past during the tour

 

this is the window in Rocco's Pastry Shop - they also have espresso and coffee so I would suggest on not eating breakfast if you do the tour in the morning as this will be your breakfast stop

Rocco's is an amazing place

  this is what I took home from a trip to Rocco's and it was to die for! Cassatina is what they are called and that is cannoli filling with sponge cake soaked with rum....

Wear comfortable shoes and dress for weather as takes place rain or shine. There are bathroom breaks and seating available at many stops. The tour covers 2 miles at a comfortable pace with the tour lasting approximately 3 hours.
