We Are Moving

LA Burdick is pleased to announce that their New York City Chocolate Shop & Café will be moving from its current location in the Flatiron District to Soho this fall. The new location will be at 156 Prince Street (between W. Broadway and Thompson).

While they are sad to leave Flatiron, they are excited to welcome you to their new home in trendy Soho in September. Be sure to visit them in Flatiron before their last day on Tuesday, August 23, and also at the new location for delectable chocolate bonbons, pastries, and beverages.

 

While I am sad our friends are leaving the amazing Flatiron area, Soho is for sure a very chic part of New York City. I am sure all their wonderful chocolates, pastry and hot chocolate will be enjoyed by the very fashionable set in that area! 

I hope to give them a visit soon once they are up and running to show you what the new place looks like!

Hotel Giraffe Review

My stay at the Hotel Giraffe during Memorial Day weekend was a pretty cool one. This hotel is part of the Library Collection of hotels, and was designed from scratch by owner Harry Kallan. The outside was quite lovely, so I knew I was in for a treat once inside! Located in the NoMad district, on Park Avenue, easy to walk to the Flatiron and Union Square areas. A very lovely neighborhood, with even my favorite Paris Baguette down the street! Carrie and the gang in "Sex and the City: The Movie," which prominently featured this lovely hotel. (One of its top suites was the setting for Mr. Big's apartment.) Love when a little SATC comes into my stay!

The room was a decent size, designed in Art Moderne decor, felt very homey.

Made you jump up and down a few times!  

Bathroom was small, but nice decor and loved the bow on the toilet paper! 

The lobby is lovely, with a wine and cheese hour every evening. I even had a bottle of prosecco waiting for me when I arrived at 10:15am, and my room was ready as well. 

Breakfast was very nice, lots of choices from fresh fruit, cereal, muffins, bagels, hard boiled eggs, toast, oatmeal, juice, tea, coffee.

Hotel prices are at their lowest in the months of January and February; their highest September and October. Sunday nights are the lowest prices for hotel rooms, in most cases. My go to places for checking prices for hotels are Trivago, Trip Advisor, Hotels.com and Travelzoo. Always remember to check the hotel's website itself, they are really trying to have you book direct and sometimes offer specials or a discount with AAA that is cheaper than the websites I mentioned above. I am also finding that if you book on your mobile device, you can save some money as well. I actually got a better rate via my mobile phone than using my AAA discount online direct at the hotel. You should really do some research on your price for hotel a few different ways, and ALWAYS book a room that you can cancel, you never know what may happen in the future. 

Remember to take into account for your total cost the NYC Hotel tax of 14.75% plus Daily $2.00 per room occupancy fee.

Would I reserve a night at the Hotel Giraffe again? In a heartbeat! This hotel was just oh so lovely, and the location is top notch. You are within walking distance of so many great shops and areas of the city. Staying here makes you feel like a "New Yorker", and not a tourist. I would highly recommend this hotel to just about anyone, and I look forward to staying again in the future! The balcony and roof top garden are just pure New York!

Sarabeth's Amazing Selections

Sarabeth's is pretty much a pretty popular place in New York City. There are 5 locations within Manhattan, but reservations are always needed, especially on weekends. I have been meaning to try the food here for ages, I have had her wonderful preserves which are just the best I have ever enjoyed! So, funny as in 2015 I get to visit Sarabeth's twice! It was worth the wait, and I will be back again, and be sure to do reservations so I can be assured a seat! I hope you are not too hungry while you enjoy this post! If so, I do apologize! 

I just recently tried Eggs Benedict a few years ago, god knows what took me so long! The traditional version at Sarabeth's is just silly. The muffin underneath is homemade, and everything just tastes perfect. Portion size is huge, and I love the fact you can have breakfast until 3:30pm Monday thru Friday. My Mom always loved to have breakfast for dinner, it was just a fun thing to do! 

This is their granola, again, huge portion with lovely fruit and greek yogurt. 

They also have a lunch prix fixe for $29.00 which give you a salad or soup, choice of main which here is the salmon and dessert. I think that is a great deal, not only for New York City, but any city, for a very tasty lunch. Sometimes I like to have a bigger lunch when in the city, and just do something light for dinner. 

This is their crab cakes benedict. It was sublime. The egg is on top and instead of the ham, you have a most amazing crab cake! They also make this with salmon as well which I would like to try. I was quite a happy person enjoying this for my late lunch! 

This is the creme brulee which comes with the lunch prix fixe, I must say as well the portions on the prix fixe were very generous. Sometimes they give you less with these deals, but not here. 

All photos in this post were taken with my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which I just love. I find when in restaurants and I wish to photo my food, it's easier to whip out my phone than my DSLR camera. Sine the results are always positive, I don't mind it at all ! It amazes me how great phone cameras are and they are just getting better each year.

While walking in the Flatiron district, I came across some great kitchen appliances on the street! How cool are these? I love the purple stove! These were found at the Krups Kitchen and Bath store, and I didn't go inside, but loved these on the sidewalk in all their glory! Would you use a purple stove?

Macarons in the Flatiron District at La Maison

When I visited the city last month, I came across the fabulous La Maison du Macaron shop in the Flatiron district. Funny thing, it wasn't on my agenda, but I happened to walk past on my way elsewhere and had to pop in! Sometimes you have to be willing to adjust your agenda for pop ups such as these. 

When I walked in, the smell was just heavenly! I was very glad I decided to check it out and will be sure to be back again very soon. The decor is adorable and the staff was very friendly as well. 

The menu was quite nice and deciding was quite a hard job 

Everything was presented so lovely and looked yummy 

The French can make pastries like no other country and they look gorgeous  

I think presentation is so important in their pastries just as much as the taste

These eclairs would make my late Aunt very happy and those lemon tarts would make my Mom very happy 

The flavors are quite unique like Rose Lychee Liquor, Apricot Champagne, Lemon Caramel, Nutella Candied Orange 

Another tasty flavor, Spicy Bourbon !!  

I tried these purple beauties and they were so flavorful. 

These would be just amazing to bring home to family and friends. You would not even need to wrap them, they are so pretty on their own. 

They have a great area to site and relax, have a drink and some french macarons. If you are in this area and looking for a rest for the tired feet, give this place a try. French Macarons are quite a delicacy and should be enjoyed by everyone!!
