A Lively Mind Jane Austen at 250

Jane Austen's 250th birthday is December 16th, which makes her a fellow Sagittarius like myself. I had the pleasure to visit the wonderful exhibit at my favorite, The Morgan Library and Museum. Here are a few of the items on display. It was a very crowded exhibit, which was nice to see, She is such a world treasure, I was not surprised!

Afternoon Tea in Felt Art

I had the pleasure of visiting felt artist Lucy Sparrow's exhibit in 2019 Lucy's Delicatessen on 6th and was totally blow away! I must say this post is in no way an ad but I needed to show you the wonderful art she has for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee! I found Lucy on Instagram and was so thrilled to see the exhibit in New York City a few years ago. When I walked through it, I just smiled from ear to ear. I totally feel in this time, with so much going on in the world, we need something to make us smile. Lucy's felt art does just that, and I have been ordering more items from her online store for my collection. 

Queen Elizabeth II has celebrated her Platinum Jubilee this weekend, 70 years on the British throne, more than any other British monarch. I do follow the royal family and it's history which I find fascinating. Lucy's current project is that of an Afternoon Tea in felt art. I was totally blown away so had to order immediately! The items are just so sweet and make you smile from ear to ear! After I had ordered, I found out she was going to be having an exhibit at the grand entrance of Buckingham Palace which is open to the public July 22, 2022 to October 2, 2022. If you happen to be in England during this time, I highly suggest you visit. You will not be disappointed. Now on to the inspect the art !  

The lovely little guys are sitting on a 3 tier cake plate from Royal Albert. The top consists of a Victoria Sponge Slice, quiche and French fancy yellow. 

Does this not make you smile ?? Sausage rolls, half scones with cream/jam, bakewell tart bottom layer: salmon sandwich, cinnamon roll (from another of her collections seemed to fit in here), Viennese swirl, jammie dodger and a black and white cookie from another collection. 

The tea cup with saucer is actually a real tea cup and saucer that the felt has been molded around. It is just so lovely and I added a lemon slice on the side. The tea cup comes off the saucer. 

I hope you have enjoyed seeing these wonderful pieces of art that are made with such love and detail. I will be adding more of Lucy's art to my home as it just really makes for a pleasant day! I think that is so what is needed in the world right now. I must thank Lucy for her wonderful work and her talent that we all have the privilege to enjoy!!

Treasures from Chatsworth The Exhibition Part 2

How gorgeous is this Tiara? The detail I was able to capture to show you I was so thrilled! It was very dark in the exhibit but my camera did wonderful. The work on this is just mind-blowing! This was made in 1865 and can be worn as a necklace or as brooches. It is simply breathtaking!  

This set of jewels was made in 1856 and worn to celebrate the coronation of Tsar Alexander II that same year. Just think of the stories these jewels could tell if they could speak!  

This was lovely in person as well, so beautiful and elegant.  

I loved seeing this in person as well, it is so regal looking. If we could only go back in time, wouldn't that be rather cool ?

Treasures from Chatsworth The Exhibition Part 1

I spent the July 4th holiday in the city for a few days, and despite the high temps, enjoyed having the city to myself. It was quite empty, even for the cars, which was awesome but felt a bit weird. I made the trek up to Sotheby's on York Avenue to see the Chatsworth exhibit that just opened. They really did a most splendid job with this, and it will be shown in 2 Parts. The second part will showcase the gorgeous jewels as well as some of the fashion brought from the estate in England. I didn't want to miss out on anything for those who cannot go in person. If you love English history as I do, this is one not to be missed and it is FREE admission. 

I viewed a wonderful documentary about Chatsworth from PBS titled Secrets of Chatsworth and it is on Amazon (for a fee) as well as Netflix (free if you have streaming) which I plan to re-watch now that I have viewed the exhibit. 

There are so many connections within the Chatsworth family, two of the most famous would be the late Diana Spencer being the great-great-great-great niece of Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire (1757-1806). The second would be part of the Kennedy family, on May 6, 1944, Kathleen Kennedy(sister to JFK) married William “Billy” Cavendish, the Marquess of Hartington, whom she had met during her first trip to England in 1938. Billy, Lord Hartington, a member of the British army, was called up on June 13, four weeks after their wedding. He was killed in combat on September 10, 1944. Lady Hartington died on May 13, 1948 in a plane crash in France. She is buried on the Cavendish family burial grounds, in the Church at Edensor outside of Chatsworth, England.

I just love John Singer Sargent paintings and this one is just lovely. I feel like she is going to blink back at me!
