Corning Museum of Glass Gift Shop

We are back at the fantastic Corning Museum of Glass today, hitting their gift shop. As you know, I LOVE museum gift shops, and this one didn't disappoint. My only issue was you have to look at what you are purchasing as some items in the store were made in China. That had me a bit upset, they really should be carrying all items Made in USA.  

Very pretty paperweights which I purchased for a good friend. 

I just love the colors, they make you happy!  

Really gorgeous perfume bottles  

These were really cool, I believe that is real gold inside that design. I would hope so for $5000.00.  

This totally blew my mind. These are all made out of glass, so so darn

amazing!  

John Miller is a pretty talented guy!  

How can you not smile when you see these?  

If money were no object, what a heck of a great gift!  

How lucky I was to find this cool video of Mr. Miller making an oversized, calorie free, donut!
If you have the time to watch this, is it pretty incredible what they can do with glass!

A Visit to the Corning Museum of Glass Part 2

We are back at the Corning Museum of Glass for Day 2 of some gorgeous glass work. 

I really loved these small bottles, all the various colors and lovely detailed designs 

This replica was just wonderful to see in person. So much detail, and amazing to think 

they still make the glass in this same process. 

From the museum, some information on their fantastic paperweight collection:

The Museum houses one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive collections of paperweights. It contains more than a thousand paperweights—from the earliest examples, made in the mid-19th century, to a monumental modern weight.

In the mid-1800s, letter writing became increasingly popular and led to the creation of new desk accessories, including glass pen holders, inkwells, and paperweights. Thousands of weights were made in Europe from 1845 to the 1890s, and the French glasshouses of Baccarat and Saint-Louis became unparalleled market leaders in this genre.

Just gorgeous! 

I am a huge fan of Tiffany glass, especially lamps, and have a few replicas in my home.

They are such beautiful works of art, and when you look at them, cannot 

help but smile! 

I just loved this little box, could easily be used today. 

More interesting fashion made out of glass. 

If you are looking for a nice day trip, this is for sure a great place to check out. I would have liked more time here, I didn't think we saw everything but it was nice having the tour guide to inform us of their best displays. There is so much history behind glass making you would never guess it, we are just lucky to still have this art form to enjoy in 2016, and many more years to come.

A Visit to the Corning Museum of Glass

The Corning Museum of Glass has been on my to-do list for some time. I was glad I finally had the chance to visit, it was quite impressive. Located in Corning, New York, it was a lovely ride with some great scenery. 

Here is some history about this fantastic museum:

Founded in 1951 by Corning Glass Works (now Corning Incorporated) as a gift to the nation for the company’s 100th anniversary, The Corning Museum of Glass is a not-for-profit museum dedicated to telling the story of a single material: glass.

The concept seems so simple. How much can you say about glass? Actually, quite a lot. Glass is a versatile, ancient material that is still being explored and understood by artists, scientists, and historians today. The story of glass is a story about art, history, culture, technology, science, craft and design. And we tell that story at The Corning Museum of Glass.

The Corning Museum of Glass cares for and displays the world’s best collection of art and historical glass. When you visit, you’ll see more than 3,500 years of history displayed in the Glass Collection Galleries, from the glass portrait of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh to contemporary sculpture made in glass.

We were able to see a glass vase being made, which was really neat, right before our eyes! 

I just love these type of vases, they even gave out quite a few to the audience. They use the same techniques that were used many, many years ago. 

How amazing is this chair? 

Fashion can even be made out of glass, this was stunning in person

Fragile Legacy exhibit was quite interesting, and is on until January 8, 2017

I just love the colors here so much

One of my most favorites, so detailed! 

This table was just breathtaking. Blue is my favorite color and this just         

made me speechless. 

Wonderful colors here as well, amazing they were able to capture so 

much detail in these designs. 

There was so much to show you , there will be a second post from this museum. It is a great place for families, they have many activities for children, and you can make your own glass piece. We were there with a tour so I didn't get the chance to do that, but would have loved to.
