Maille Mustard Create Your Own Mustard Class

I had the pleasure of attending a "Create Your Own Mustard"  media class with the lovely folks at Maille in their new Flatiron location. Their mustard is really so full of flavor to begin with, and then when you can add a little of what flavors you like, it becomes pure heaven!
Our class had 4 folks including myself, it was nice and easy for everyone to chat together. The classes will have a limit of 6 participants. We would be infusing fresh-from-the-tap Dijon mustard with our preferred combination of seasonal flavorings.

The choices we had for flavoring our mustard were:

Sweet
Cinnamon
Apricots
Coconut
Candied Ginger
Maple Syrup
Vanilla Paste

Fresh
Dill
Lemon and Orange Zest
Rosemary
Tarragon
Tomato Paste
Thyme
Cilantro

Texture
Black Olives
Fennel Seeds
Hazelnuts
Porcini Mushrooms
Walnuts
Shallots

Spices
Cumin
Curry
Black Pepper
Cayenne
Saffron
Smoked Paprika

We had wonderful light fare prior to the class, as well as wines from Acker Merrall & Condit Wines

We were able to see the recipes by the Mustard Sommelier Pierette Huttner to give us ideas for our own mustard flavor. We could make one of Pierette's recipes, or come up with something on our own.

For my mustard, I went with Coconut, Cinnamon and Maple Syrup. It was totally amazing, and tastes great with any type of fish, especially my favorite, salmon.
I was able to take my mustard home to enjoy, and the class really shows you to be daring with your mustard, and try something unique. This class is a really fun event, a great gift for your foodie friend, something they will enjoy and remember.

You can get all the details and sign up for future classes on EventBrite: Maille Mustard Class . In July and August, all classes will take place at Maille Flatiron; in September classes will be held in both the Flatiron Boutique and at the original Maille Boutique in Lincoln Square. For additional information, group events, or to be added to their waiting list, please contact mustardclass@fraichepr.com.

Maille Holiday and Truffle Selections

Our friends at the Maille Boutique in the Upper West Side have some awesome products for your holiday shopping! I love their shop all year round, but during the holidays, when you are looking for unique gifts, you are in the right place. This company was founded in 1747, so you know what kind of quality you will find being in business for 268 years!

The above gift set is the amazing Maille Mustard with Chablis White Wine & Black Truffle along with the Maille Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Truffle. Once you are finished with the mustard, you can bring the crock back to their Upper West Side store for a refill from the mustard on tap.

I received some of these amazing items to try from Maille, and I must say, I was just blown away by the flavor! When you receive something form Maille, you can't help but smile!

When everyone else brings wine, chocolates or flowers, delight a foodie host with Maille’s Truffle Collection Giftbox. Coveted by kings and presidents, poets, chefs and gourmands, this collection is served on tap and presented with an exclusive ceramic truffle mustard pot and truffle oil inspired by Maille designs from the late 18th century, together creating a flavour innovation and a taste of tradition in one beautifully presented gift box. Your host will be delighted, and your gift will be the talk of the table.
The Gingerbread and Chestnut Honey mustard is out of this world! Just opening the jar, and smelling all the fabulous ingredients, you are such a happy person! Here is some information from their website:
While being created, this unique mustard recipe must have had the Maille kitchens in a spin but it works brilliantly – and with the most unlikely combinations. This classic from Alsace with spicy gingerbread (pains d’epices) sweetened with honey adds a unique twist to vanilla ice-cream – stir it into homemade ice-cream for a classy dessert. It’s a favourite of the Maille team, along with a spoonful mixed in to cream cheese stuffed mortadella.

For the person who seems impossible to impress, try Sauternes White Wine Vinegar. The flavors of this coveted Bordeaux wine blend create a fruity freshness balanced with a hint of hazelnut and a delicate honeyed roundness. Thanks to its fruity touch, this smooth vinegar – made with Sauternes White Wine from the Garonne region in France – beautifully complements festive dishes such as duck breast, foie gras, and oysters. Packaged in a reusable black stoneware bottle with handpainted with vintage Maille label design, it cuts an elegant figure on any table. 10.1oz for $32

Maille also offers more than 30 flavored Dijon mustards infused with the highest quality ingredients to create vibrant flavor combinations. At $9 per 3.8oz jar, these gourmet mustards make for great stocking stuffers and grab bag selections. Or, mix and match varieties to create a personalized and exquisite gift set. Noteworthy flavors include:
•       Mustard with White Wine, Parmesan Cheese and Basil
•       Mustard with White Wine, Fig and Coriander
•       Mustard with White Wine and Walnuts
•       Mustard with White Wine, Saffron and Isigny Crème Fraîche

If you cannot get to a Maille boutique in person, they do ship their wonderful items from their website HERE. They are shipping to Canada as well as USA. These are just such great gifts for the foodie in your life, who may be hard to purchase items for during the holidays! They will be happy with any item you choose!

Maille Mustard Boutique

One of the places on my major to-do list from the winter months was the Maille Boutique. I have shown you some of their products here on the blog, and we are familiar with their mustard from our local supermarket. What many may not realize is that they have so many wonderful flavors of mustard available, as well as other condiments. There are 6 Maille Boutiques in the world, and we are lucky to have one in the Upper West Side of New York City. If you are a mustard lover, you need to visit this place asap. Let's take a tour:
Everything is done here in the most classy way. That is a little mustard pot with a mustard spoon. Yes, they make mustard spoons! So adorable!
Wonderful gift sets are available which make the foodie or chef a very happy person! This company has been in business since 1747 so you know it has to be good!

Interesting suggestions here such as the chocolate chip cookies with pistachio orange mustard!
When you look at the selection, it is hard to choose just a few items!
Know-how, craftsmanship and the human touch contribute to the character and quality of products La Maison Maille has been producing for more than 267 years. The tradition is kept alive by the team of experts who create the products today, preserving the excellence that defines La Maison Maille in a continual quest for innovation and perfection. It is the attention to detail that sets La Maison Maille apart - the carefully selected ingredients, the nuances of the recipes, the expertise in the methods used and the elegant black and gold packaging.
If whole grain mustard is your favorite, you will not find a better one than in the Maille Boutique

The wonderful gift set of the mustard pot and bowl which I would be thrilled to receive!
Another great gift package with the mustard and vinegar selections
I thought this was a great gift box to try a few of the different flavors of the mustard to see which is your favorite.
For the spicy lovers, you have horseradish mustard available.
The saffron mustard had a gorgeous color.

Did you ever think mustard could be elegant? When you visit this boutique, you see it is possible!

One of the most amazing items in this boutique are the mustard selections on tap. Here is some information from the Maille website:

Drawn by hand from ingeniously engineered pumps, our mustards on tap are gently poured into exclusive earthenware pots and sealed with cork stoppers. Choose between intense and woody black winter truffles and Chablis wine and the subtle fruitiness of wholegrain mustard with Chardonnay. Or the intriguing sweetness of Dijon mustard with Sauternes. La Maison Maille’s mustards on tap are the pinnacle of condiments and also make the perfect gift for food lovers.

I love these pots, and when yours if empty, you can bring back to the boutique and have it refilled! Pure genius!

Please let me know if you do visit the Maille New York boutique, and what was your favorite mustard! It is a true destination in the Upper West Side!!
