What kind of history goes with this hotel? The hotel opened November 1, 2010 as The Setai Fifth Avenue. In 2012 it was sold to Great Eagle Holdings for 229 million us dollars. Great Eagle placed the hotel under management of their Langham Hospitality Group and it was renamed Langham Place, Fifth Avenue in May 2013. It was renamed The Langham, New York, Fifth Avenue in December 2017. 

When you arrived, how was the lobby and customer service? The lobby is amazing, as smells so good, and although kind of small, plenty of seating for quite a few guests. 

How fantastic or not so fantastic was the room? This was my 2nd stay at the hotel and first in this deluxe room with city view. The bathroom was sublime, it had a kitchen with oven and fridge, lots of closet space for your clothes. I had a partial view of the Chrysler building which was lovely. A real treat to stay in this room, I felt very grateful. 

The cleanliness of the hotel and room itself ? The hotel is very clean and the room was spotless. 

Were you able to have sweet dreams with the comfy bed? The bed was very comfortable and my dreams of New York City were plentiful. 

The All-Important bathroom subject? Probably one of the BEST bathrooms I have ever enjoyed in a hotel. Dry Bar hair dryer was a treat and so fantastic I bought one for myself when I got home. The mini toiletries were gone but the large size available to be used were Diptyque. There was even a hand lotion at the bathroom sink which was nice. The rainfall showerhead was divine. The toilet was in a separate little room with a door. Again, one of the BEST bathrooms. Oh, and a view of the city as well. 

What kind of shower treats awaited you? Coffee maker in the room? Diptyque bath amenities and Nespresso as well as a tea kettle in the room. 

Did room service blow your mind or was just okay? I had room service Easter Sunday morning of Eggs Benedict with mushrooms and a mint herb tea. It was delivered on time and quite tasty on a slow holiday Sunday. 

Everyone wants to know, is Wi-Fi included? Yes, it is but I usually am able to use my own cell phone carrier for service. 

Is Fido allowed come with you? Yes he is allowed to enjoy a stay here too! 

Location is key, how does this hotel measure? I loved the location of this hotel. You can really walk everywhere. Bryant Park is 3 blocks, the Morgan Library is 1 block over to Madison Avenue, Flatiron district is 10 blocks. You can of course walk up to Rockefeller Center and Columbus Circle area as well. It's just a fantastic location on 5th Avenue to base yourself when in the city. Subway lines are close to the hotel if you did wish to use them. 

What was the best part of staying here? The folks working at the hotel were very kind and always welcomed you when back from walking around the city. The hotel is a pure joy to stay and for a single person, you feel very comfortable. If you can afford to stay here, it is worth the splurge. 

Would you change anything? I am being a bit picky, but the lobby seating area could be larger. I would also love the Spa to come back and a restaurant that serves Afternoon Tea as their other locations. 

Is this hotel worth it and why? It is worth it, I was able to book a special price if I stayed 3 nights the 3rd night was free. It is not a cheap hotel, as is a 5-star, but I feel worth the money. It is an ultimate treat for yourself which we all need from time to time. 

Overall Rating: 9.5/10 

Conclusion: This was my 2nd time staying at this hotel and I was very excited. I arrived at 11am, check in was to be 3pm, but I had hoped to get in the room by noon or a bit after. I was not able to check in until the 3pm time which was kind of disappointing. They seemed very busy, not sure if maids called off that day and they were short handed, but there were issues. The staff was very kind and felt bad about it, but it was still not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel. My charger stopped working and the one in the room for $25 was not a fast charger so I had to go out and buy another from a carrier's store. They gave me a room on the 25th floor, it goes to 27, I think due to the wait I had to get in the room. The flower with my room service had seen better days but the food was delish. I did not receive a welcome gift, which I have received in other 4 star hotels while staying in the city. This would have been a 10 rating but due these issues, my rating is a 9.5 - almost close to perfect. 

Would I stay here again? Yes, for sure. It was a delightful stay and I look forward to having the privilege to stay here in the future.

Top of the line kitchen which I did not use but the fridge was handy for keeping my water cold. They did provide bottles of water free in the room. 

The infamous Langham pink and gold pen. I was very happy to score quite of few of these during my stay as they are refillable. They are so elegant to use. 

My tasty room service with a sad flower which was a bit brown on the ends.

Hotel prices are at their lowest in the months of January and February; their highest September and October. Sunday nights are the lowest prices for hotel rooms, in most cases. My go to places for checking prices for hotels are Trivago, Trip Advisor, Hotels.com. Always remember to check the hotel's website itself, they are really trying to have you book direct and sometimes offer specials or a discount with AAA that is cheaper than the websites I mentioned above. I am also finding that if you book on your mobile device, you can save some money as well. I actually got a better rate via my mobile phone than using my AAA discount online direct at the hotel. You should really do some research on your price for hotel a few different ways, and ALWAYS book a room that you can cancel, you never know what may happen in the future. You also want the ability to change hotels if you should find a better option closer to your date of arrival.

The Quin Central Park by Hilton Club Hotel Review 2018

What kind of history goes with this hotel? In a storied beaux arts building once frequented by famed artists and musicians, this posh hotel across the street from Carnegie Hall is less than 2 blocks from Central Park and the subway. Prior to its 2013 reopening, the Quin was originally the Buckingham Hotel, designed by American architect, Emery Roth, which opened in 1929. Some of the famous folks who stayed here were Georgia O'Keefe and Marc Chagall. June of 2018 it was announced the sale of the Quin to Hilton Hotels for $175 million US dollars.

When you arrived, how was the lobby and customer service? This was my second stay at this hotel and I was there to celebrate my birthday in December. The lobby is one of my favorites, so classy and lots of artwork to admire. The customer service was okay, I felt it could have been better since I was a return guest, but no real complaints. For the level of a 5 Star, I would expect more.

How fantastic or not so fantastic was the room? They did give me an upgrade of a room, a corner room which was a lovely size. Their rooms are usually very well sized, one of my favorites in the city.

The cleanliness of the hotel and room itself ? The room was very clean, no issues whatsoever.

Were you able to have sweet dreams with the comfy bed? The bed was extremely comfortable. Italian lines are so soft and make for very pleasant dreams.

The All-Important bathroom subject? One of my most favorite hotel bathrooms. Mostly marble everywhere, a gorgeous rain shower and plenty of room to do all the bathroom things! I love the marble seat in the shower, if you just want to take a relax while enjoying the rain shower. 

What kind of shower treats awaited you? Coffee maker in the room? Fresh toiletries are always a joy to use and a wonderful Nespresso machine was provided with beautiful cups and free water. 

Did room service blow your mind or was just okay? I did not order room service this time, but when I did before it was very good.

Everyone wants to know, is Wi-Fi included? FREE Wi-Fi for all

Is Fido allowed come with you? Sorry, no pets allowed

Location is key, how does this hotel measure? This location is really great. You are a block away from 5th Avenue, near Central Park, Columbus Circle, Carnegie Hall.

What was the best part of staying here? I would say the location and the luxury of the hotel. It is a very comfortable place to return to after exploring the city. The rooms are a great size for NYC and you can walk most places or take a quick cab. It is a great hotel to explore the Upper West Side as well as you are not far from that spectacular area of the city.

Would you change anything? I think they could be more generous with upgrading your room if you are a repeat visitor and welcome gifts would be a nice touch waiting for you in the room. I feel as well for a 5 star that the customer service overall could be very improved.

Is this hotel worth it and why? This will always be on of my favorite hotels and I hope that Hilton keeps up the luxury service that I have been used to. It will be a hotel I will stay at again and again when I wish to be in this area of the city provided Hilton does not lower the standards.

When checking your prices, be sure to look for the small print if there is an additional resort fee and make your decision whether you want that additional charge. The Langham Fifth Avenue Hotel Review

I have decided to go with a new format for the hotel reviews on the site. If there is anything that interests you that I am not covering here, please feel free to email me. I love staying in hotels, it is a perfect getaway and way to relax. There are so many hotels in NYC, last count was 494, so it is a difficult decision to choose one for your stay. I hope my reviews help you make a great choice for your base in New York City!

Overall Value: $414 - $1016 (Based on Average Rates for a Standard Room)

What kind of history goes with this hotel? This lovely hotel is housed in a modern, 60-story glass tower that was built from the ground up for the hotel's opening in 2010. It has for sure changed the architecture of the surrounding area of midtown.

When you arrived, how was the lobby and customer service? The lobby is  not very large, but a nice area to wait for friends or take a break before you head back to your room. The customer service was top notch and what one would expect from a 5 star hotel. I advised them I would be in at 11am and the room was ready at 10:45am which was perfect. They offer a hotel car to take you within 20 blocks from the hotel, a very nice feature. The lobby had nice selections of fruit water and snacks available throughout the day, a nice treat when heading back to your room from exploring the city.

How fantastic or not so fantastic was the room? The large rooms start at 400 square feet, and all have king beds and the same top-notch amenities, including iPod docks, Nespresso coffeemakers, 52-inch flat-screen TVs, minibars, DVD players. I felt the simple decor was just wonderful, and the room was quite a fabulous size for myself or if I would be staying with someone else. Italian walnut wood paneling and bare beige walls, it almost felt like I was staying in an apartment in the city.

The cleanliness of the hotel and room itself ? Very clean hotel in all areas as well as the room.

Were you able to have sweet dreams with the comfy bed? I had no problem catching some sleep with the luxurious Swedish Duxiana beds (in configurations of twin, double, and king beds) are made with Pratesi linens. It was a very comfy rest from walking around the city all day!

The All-Important bathroom subject?  I am obsessed with a good hotel bathroom. In many hotels in NYC, the bathroom can be of the tiniest size. This hotel has spacious marble bathrooms with a  separate soaking tub and showers with rain showerheads. For me being short, it was a careful step up in the shower/tub combo in my room, but very luxurious. 

What kind of shower treats awaited you? Coffee maker in the room? Chuan Body + Soul which is their spa provided the toiletries for the bathroom and they were very high quality. Yes, coffee maker named Nespresso is provided for your use in the room.

Did room service blow your mind or was just okay? I ordered breakfast and found the service to be wonderful. I love a good room service when staying at a nice hotel. It was very hot the days I visited, so nice to just order in breakfast and enjoy my air conditioning!

Everyone wants to know, is Wi-Fi included? Yes- free Wi-Fi

Is Fido allowed come with you? Pets are allowed on request and charges may apply. I saw no animals staying at the hotel during my stay.

Location is key, how does this hotel measure? The location is fantastic, 5th Avenue and East 36th Street, being able to say I stayed on 5th Avenue is a nice perk too. You are within close walking distance of Bryant Park, Flatrion District, Empire State Building, next door is my favorite Maison Kayser, one street over is another of my faves The Morgan Library and Museum, Times Square, Grand Central Terminal. Lots of shopping within the area is at your fingertips. This location is for sure a great choice when choosing your base in the city.

What was the best part of staying here? I hate to be so silly, but the PENS! They have the most gorgeous pens, and I had 3 of them in my room. I found the refills so they will be used for quite a long time! They sell many Langham pink items in their lobby which make great gifts for friends, family or to treat yourself.

Would you change anything? Not a thing in fact I am very excited to say again.

Is this hotel worth it and why? This is one of the most expensive hotels I have stayed in and I must say, worth every penny. This is my first rating of a 10 for all the hotels I have stayed in New York City. The location, top notch customer service, gorgeous room and bathroom, yummy room service, clean as a whistle, PENS, Chef Michael White's restaurant Ai Fiori all make up a 5 star hotel.

Conclusion: 

This has to probably be my most favorite hotel stay. It is the only one that has ranked a "10" as many have been ranked a "9". This hotel just has everything pretty perfect. Location, customer service, 5 star status, elegant simple rooms, room size blows you away, room service top notch, bathroom totally sublime. I can't think of anything wrong with this hotel expect I wish it was a bit more near the NoMad or Flatiron area, my 2 favorite areas. I would recommend this to anyone, and if you find a good rate and wish to treat yourself, go for it. You will not be sorry. I personally cannot wait to get back very soon!
