2010 US Open Tennis Player Shots

I can't believe the US Open is already close to 2 months past! It is amazing to me how it goes so quickly but I wanted to share some of my shots of the various players on the tour. Tennis is such an international sport and I root for players from many different countries, not just the USA. There are so many talented players out there from all over the world and their personality also has something to do with why I may follow their career. I also think I learn more history following other players thru tennis as feel the need to research where they are from.......on to the photos shall we .......

Nikolay Davydenko of Russia #6 player in the world - 1st round action shot

Maria Sharapova of Russia #21 in the world - this was a hard shot as I was shooting right into the sun but came out pretty nice I think - I have been shooting Maria since 2003 and the camera just loves her! She is one of the top paid athletes for endorsements, makes perfect sense.

this is one of my favorite shots from the 2004 US Open

Victoria Azanerka from Belarus #10 in the world - the heat really got to her and she collapsed on the court during her 2nd round match - she was okay but very scary moment for her and her fans

she was wearing the Nike dress for Serena Williams who pulled out of the tournament - thought it was a cute outfit as black and white always work -

Daniela Hantuchova #29 in the world from Slovakia warming up before her 1st round match

Ana Ivanovic from Serbia #36 in the world but has won the French Open title - these were during her first round match and the camera did well at night -

her adidas outfit was adorable - loved the color and knew it was to be great to photograph - I sat with some nice people during this match, nice to be solo at the matches as you meet many new people

her shoes deserved their own photo - just looved these !! also by adidas

this is one of the smaller courts which are really great to watch matches - you can't get any closer than this -

the great camera guys who bring us the action - on a hot day like this was, I really felt for them but I think they get used to it -

Ernests Gulbis from Lativa #25 in the world - no he isn't pointing to my camera -

just wanted his towel - I could have touched it I was that close but decided against!

he played Jeremy Chardy of France # 60 in the world - Jeremy beat him and caused an upset in the first round - there were lots of French fans to root him on -

I had to have this guy up as he is from Vienna, Austria - Jurgen Melzer ranked 13 in the world and the only player on the ATP Tour from Austria -

one last shot of Roger and Rafa at the Arthur Ashe Kids Day

Two Great Tennis Websites for the Latest Information:

I hope you enjoyed my tennis shots and consider attending the 2011 US Open.
This years tournament was one of the most successful in history as Rafa became the 7th male player in history to capture the career Grand Slam, a record 23.6 million in prize money was distributed. For the 4th consecutive year the attendance topped 700,000 - a total of 712,976 visited the tournament. Mark your calendar for August 29 to September 11, 2011 and pay the tournament a visit. It is the place to be in late August in New York.

2010 US Open Men's Final

The stage is set for history tomorrow in the men's final at the 2010 US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York. #1 seed Rafael Nadal from Spain plays #3 Novak Djokovic from Serbia and both are seeking their first title in New York. If Rafa should win, he will be the 7th man to have won all four grand slams (Australian, Wimbledon, French Open, US Open) - and he is only 24 years of age....

one of my photos from the Arthur Ashe Kids Day shows what muscles he has ....

Novak just beat Roger Federer in 5 sets to get to the final ...no small task...but he will probably be a bit tired tomorrow evening

Novak has a great fun personality however ........

Rafa's been waiting a long time for the trophy in New York. It is his time for his 9th Grand Slam title and another place in the history books.....wonder how his career will end....should be fun to see.... GO RAFA !!!

A Big Congrats to Kim Clijsters ...the 2010 US Open Women's Champion...for a third time!!

Kim at practice this year showing the athlete she is ....

another shot of Kim at this year's tournament....she is my favorite as such a classy lady but I like Vera as well so will be happy with either win as long as it is a good match.

US Open Tennis August 30 to September 12, 2010

I am getting very excited for the US Open tennis to start in the wonderful Flushing Meadows, New York!! I cannot believe it is a few weeks away already and hope the weather is nice, not too humid and no rain. Last year it was really gorgeous every day I attended the tournament. I have been attending since 1994 and it is always a great tournament. One of the 4 "Grand Slams" as they call in tennis - it is the last major of the year. I have been lucky to obtain some great photos of the players with my camera and would like to share some faves with you......

this was my start to digital cameras ....Dinara Safina of Russia at the 2008 US Open.. olympus gave out cameras to try for a few hours, copied your photos on a disk and you got to take them home. it really gave me a taste of what I could do with digital....I was still shooting film at this time.....

one of my first and best shots of Andre Agassi...being in the right place at the right time made it work very well ....

this one from 1999 of Andre is great with the ball in the air ...tennis is a fun sport to photograph....

Maria Sharapova during a doubles match at the 2004 US Open .....

the Davis Cup trophy in 2008 was sitting at the tennis center as the USA was the winner of the tournament in 2007. Davis Cup is country against country and has been around since 1900 as a challenge between Great Britain and the USA. Men only compete but the woman have Fed Cup for their international competition.

a very young Venus Williams in 2000...the girl is all legs really....

Novak Djokovic from Serbia at the 2007 US Open first round match

James Blake of the USA during a match in Louis Armstrong Stadium....

Fernando Verdasco from Spain 2008 US Open..nickname is Hot Sauce...

the line to get in around 930am is quite long but it moves pretty fast

gorgeous horses patrol the grounds of Corona Park, just outside the tennis center

Serena Williams at practice in 2006...she is going for the record books these days with all her grand slam titles ......

newly retired, former world #1 and 2 time Grand Slam champion Marat Safin smiling at practice... he brought a lot of excitement to the game...

Grey Goose is a sponsor of the US Open and makes these adorable drinks...looks like tennis balls floating in the glass...tastes good after a hot day of walking around the grounds.......

This tournament is really a lot of fun being that it takes place about a half hour drive from Manhattan. You can see some tennis and still head back to the city for a show or some shopping. The first week is the best I feel to attend as there are so many matches going on and if you purchase a grounds pass, you can see quite a variety of players. I am pulling for Rafael Nadal this year as it is the only grand slam he has not won and well, he needs to have this trophy in his cabinet!! Nothing is more exciting that seeing tennis live and these pros are amazing at what they can do. If you get the chance to attend this tournament or any other on the ATP or WTA tour, give it a try. I think you will get hooked!!

2010 US Open Tennis Tickets on Sale This Week !!

I have been attending the US Open tennis tournament since 1994. The first year I was lucky to see Andre Agassi practice with John McEnroe. After that, I have just enjoyed it year after year. Tickets went on sale this Monday for the 2 week tournament. The tennis center is located in Flushing Meadows, Queens and is about a half hour drive from the city, if traffic isn't an issue.

I am staying at the Crowne Plaza Times Square for the 2nd year in a row...right next to the Hershey store....very good for a chocolate lover!!

their rooms are very nice as have had a remodel recently

nice size bathroom as well which is hard to find in NYC hotels

the grounds are really beautiful...here is the Arthur Ashe Statute

this was from 2003 from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History by artist Nellie Lou Slagle - so very much adorable !!

The new Heineken Light lounge was great last year...air conditioned and a great place to cool off, get a drink and watch the matches going on around the grounds

they have a pretty good food selection at the tennis center..this burger was $12.00 but really enough for 2 people!!

Mojito Restaurant & Bar is a fun place with a 1950's Cuban inspired menu - very tasty stuff!!

the entrance/exit near the famous Globe from the 1964 World's Fair

If anyone is interested in attending the Open this year, possibly for the first time, please feel free to email me any questions you may have. I will be more than happy to give suggestions to you to make your trip one great experience!!
