I was thrilled to be able to join On Location Tours for another one of their bus tours in May. I had the pleasure of seeing their Sex and the City Tour a few years ago, which was tons of fun. This tour is the NY TV & Movie Sites, which really takes you to many great areas of the city. I always say these tours are fabulous for new visitors, as it allows you to get familiar with other areas of the city. When you find an area you like via the tour, you can then go back on your own and explore more!
The tour starts at Ellen's Stardust Diner, which is not really a place you need to visit. It was actually my first time being near the place, if you would believe!
The hustle and bustle of this area is always in full force!
We had a great tour guide, Gary, and a totally great bus driver, John, this time around. We started on 5th Avenue, going by all the famous landmarks that appear in movies and television. Willie Garson from White Collar and Sex and the City, was shown on a video about shooting in the streets of NYC. They face many challenges however the directors talked about the fun of filming in the city and all the scenes they can create. The most filmed building is the Plaza Hotel, and over 200 feature films used Central Park as their location - the most in the city. It is a 5 billion a year industry for this city.
This photo and the one above is Washington Square Park and I wanted to show you the great detail in this arch. It is really beautiful in person! This arch was completed in 1892 by renowned architect Stanford White, who I am known to be obsessed with!
The typical beauty you find in Greenwich Village. I could look at this all day! We had such a nice array of folks on our bus, from Australia, Great Britain, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium and Lativa!
I so love the wrought iron work you find all over the city. It takes such craftsmanship to create these pieces, and we are so lucky to be able to enjoy them!
We had such a gorgeous day on this tour, very lucky indeed!
Our next stop was Soho and we were dropped off right across from Bloomies so I did some shopping! The tour does not include any meals, so this drop off would allow for you to get something quick, the tour does full a full 2 1/2 hours, so you may get a bit hungry along the way!
We drove downtown for a ride pass the World Trade Central site, and the Brooklyn Bridge where you can walk over on a lovely day.
This was a great stop in Tribeca, the Ghostbusters fire house! So so darn cool! And the day we were there, they were celebrating their anniversary, so it was open!
The exterior scenes were filmed here, while the inside ones were filmed on a set in Los Angeles!
There is our guy! They were also selling tee shirts as well with the Ghostbusters logo on it! Just too wonderful !
Heading now to where the apartment from Friends is located, a show I never watched! I don't know why, I just never did. Odd as it may be.
There it is ! They actually filmed the show in LA, with showing the exterior of the apartment here in NYC. I was more in love with the area around the apartment, than the apartment itself. Such a pretty part of the city, as you will see below!
Is that not totally gorgeous? Just love it !
