February Finds at The Savory Pantry

I am really thrilled to be introducing a new feature here on the blog and I hope you will like it. Our friends at The Savory Pantry, who are a longtime sponsor of this blog, will be featuring a monthly post of their unique finds. As you know, growing up in an Italian family, food was very important. We never had processed foods, my Mom made everything from scratch. As I grew older, my family and I became "foodies" and really enjoyed trying unique products. I credit my parents for making me see how fun it is to try new food products and experiment with them. I never really had to cook because my Mom always did it and did it so well, but since she got sick in 2013, I am now the cook. Turns out, I have the genes because homemade sauce, gnocchi and biscotti come pretty easy for me! The Savory Pantry is a fabulous place for the cook, for the foodie and I really adore their product selection. Their shop is located in Hot Springs, Arkansas but they do ship on their website which makes it easy for anyone to visit.
Our first two products go very well together. Lemon Sorbetti Loose Tea Canister
from Tea Forté is the first product. This loose tea is very aromatic, and based on Italy's famous sorbet, a true delight! As you probably know by now, my Mom is a very big lemon lover, so she was thrilled to be able to try this tea. We found it just wonderful with some honey added, it gave it just the right sweetness. There is something about loose tea that sets it apart from the rest. It makes me think of my local Valentine's Day tea where they served me tea bags. I was not impressed! This tea would also make a great gift as well.
The second product is Handmade Scottish Shortbread
by Shortbread House of Edinburgh and if you didn't know, I am a big tennis fan and also fan of Andy Murray who is from Scotland. Shortbread is like the wholly grail. It is such a rich, luscious dessert, probably one of my top 10 desserts. These are handmade and you can tell. They are so buttery and melt in your mouth. What a great partner with the tea! I would recommend these to anyone.
Here they are together! Don't they look like a great pair? My Mom is a big dunker and she dunked the shortbread in the tea and had such a grin on her face! I am so thrilled when she can enjoy treats like this during her day. These two items would make a lovely gift together for a friend or family member. I think you would be very popular if you were to do so, but they are also fabulous to treat yourself to as well.

I hope you enjoyed our first installment of monthly finds from The Savory Pantry. Please give their website a peek, they have great recipes as well as yummy gourmet treats. We will have 2 new products to showcase for March, so be on the lookout.

You can click on the logo to take you to their website!!

Creel and Gow

Yes, the name of this shop is Creel and Gow. The owners are Christopher Gow and Jamie Creel. I found this place walking along a quiet street at 70th and Lexington Avenue. I was struck by the beauty of the townhouse, all the greenery surrounding it, and thought "What is this??"
The shop is for the wealthy who have just about everything. You will find here objects that come from or have been inspired by Mother Nature. Extremely diverse and rare artifacts that are one of a kind, and set apart those who aquire them. The shop opened in 2012.

How fabulous is this townhouse? This shop is located in the former stables of architect Grosvenor Atterbury's townhouse. His works spanned the USA in places such as Pittsburgh, Massachusetts, Arizona and of course New York City.

If you like to see a shop that is totally unique, this is the place for you. For most of us, it would be just browsing of course, but that is all in the fun. I personally love stores where I cannot afford the items. There is no cost for you to look, admire and enjoy the beauty of what you can find! I hope you enjoyed this little visit to Creel and Gow!!

The Lucerne Hotel Upper West Side

I never realized how much I do love architecture until I started this blog. When walking around the city, I am more aware of what is around me to photograph and show you. I love to read about the history of these fabulous buildings, that have stood the test of time and have been restored to their old glory. The Lucerne Hotel in the Upper West Side is another gem. Beaux Arts style is one that really talks to me. It is just so grand when you look at these buildings in person, I like to really just enjoy them for a period of time before I move on.
Completed in 1904 located at East 79th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, architect was Harry B. Mulliken. It has 12 floors of rooms, and stands out when walking in the area with it's gorgeous plum color terra cotta along with the brick.
The French restaurant in the hotel, Nice Matin, offers breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. During the nice weather months, it is a joy to sit outside and enjoy your meal. People watching in New York City is a favorite pastime of most folks including myself!

How grand is this? An early brochure of rates for the hotel was something like this:
Room and Bath $3.00 per day and up
Suites of Two Rooms and Bath for One or Two Persons $4.50 per day and up

The Lucerne Hotel was renovated in 1999/2000 and it really is quite a site in the Upper West Side. The location which overlooks the beautiful Hudson River and Central Park, is perfect for those wishing to explore this area of Manhattan. It is also near The American Museum of Natural History, as well as many amazing restaurants and shops. I have not stayed at this hotel, but it is on my list for sure to stay at some point in time. I think it would be quite a memorable trip indeed!

Photo Gallery Tuesday " 2011 Philadelphia Flower Show A French Garden"

As we approach the 2014 Philadelphia Flower Show next week, I thought it would be fun to look at the show back in 2011. This show was just amazing, and this was my favorite display by Jamie Rothstein titled French Garden. The theme of the show was Springtime in Paris, and they really went all out. You can check out my full post of the display HERE and you will see why it was my favorite. The designers that work on these displays really have such a talent, it blows your mind. So much detail in every piece of the display. If you have never visited this flower show, and you love flowers and art, I would highly suggest you try to make it one year!

City Lobster and Steak

A little restaurant trip today. City Lobster and Steak is one of my favorite places for dinner. Whether I am with a friend or solo, I always feel right at home here. The location is perfect as I usually pick up my bus right in the area of the restaurant, West 49th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. I am a HUGE seafood lover, I could eat it everyday so this place is heaven for me. I have had their mushroom ravioli below, and that was pretty darn tasty too! If you are looking for a place to eat in this area, you cannot go wrong here. They do take reservations via Open Table as well. They also have a pre-fixe lunch for $32.00 and pre-fixe dinner for $44.00, both include appetizer, main course and dessert. Here are some of my yummy meals:

Sorry if I made you hungry, this blog tends to to that on a regular basis! Do you have a favorite restaurant in New York City? A place you always seem to visit when you are in the city? Please let me know, I always do like to check out new places as well. I have the utmost confidence that my readers enjoy some pretty fabulous restaurants!!
