Throwback Thursday " The 5th Earl of Carnarvon "

The 5th Earl of Carnarvon (back right) and Carnarvon's then wife, Almina, Countess of Carnarvon (centre) with companions

Since we are in a Downton Abbey theme this week, I felt our Thursday post should stay in the same subject. Truth being, there is so much history with the 5th Earn of Canarvon, we could have a very long post! The 5th Earl, George Herbert, was well known as the financial backer of the search for and the excavation of Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings. He was born at Highclere Castle 1866 and died in Egypt in 1923. I am just fascinated by everything King Tut, and really so enjoyed the Downton Abbey series. If you visit Highclere Castle, you can view a wonderful King Tut exhibit which I am sure will be so amazing!      Were you aware that Highclere Castle was connected to King Tut ? What a small world we live in!
