El Cocotero in Chelsea, New York City

I had the pleasure of trying Venezuelan cuisine while in the city in September. I met with fabulous milliner, Ellen Christine, for lunch.

This lovely piece of couture on our favorite New York City gal was made by Ellen Christine, and on the cover of Harper's Bazaar September 2013. I was in very classy company, to say the least! She suggested this place El Cocotero in Chelsea for our lunch. I am game for most food so I was in.
Ellen Christine ordered a good selection of items for me to try which was fabulous!

We Had A SAMPLING OF Bite size crispy arepas, crispy yucca, tostones and four sampling toppings of shredded beef, chicken, reina pepiada and dominó

Yummy cilantro shrimp dinner here with rice, beans - the spices were perfect, not too strong
roasted pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard
Dessert was just, well, to die for!
Tres Leche Cake is so moist and amazing - you must try it once I linked a recipe from the food network to try at home
Their coconut cake was just so so good. I have to say I would suggest this place to anyone. It is independently owned, and the food is really quite amazing/original. It is so cool to visit these places suggested by a local because they are really authentic to the city.

Let me know if you decide to try El Cocotero !!
