Godiva Event at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival

Our guest contributor, Anthony, is taking us on a chocolate tour via South Beach Food and Wine Festival from this past weekend!
The Dream Rooftop and Godiva played host to a night filled with sweets and warm Florida breezes at the South Beach Wine & FoodFestival’s Indulge. Duff Goldman (owner of Charm City Cakes and star of Ace of Cakes) hosted the event, which brought out some of the best sweets from Miami and South Florida. While smaller than its NYC Wine and Food Festival counterpart the event was every bit as indulgent.

Duff Goldman baked up an amazing multi-tiered cake plus three kinds to taste, including a light hummingbird cake and an amazing dark chocolate ganache cake. There were also plenty of Godiva Cake Truffles on hand as the chef greeted fans and talked about his bakeries and show. Duff is a very down-to-earth guy and an incredible baker and cake designer.

Hollis Wilder of Sweet! By Good Golly Miss Holly whipped up several cupcakes including an amazing salted caramel. The flavor was incredible with the perfect balance of salt and sweet and the cake was airy and moist. This was my favorite bite of the evening and I found myself with room to eat three of these.

BLT Steak’s Joanna Wardle was on hand wielding a kitchen torch to toast up some Chai S’mores. This bite has a sweet, chocolately flavor and hint of spice from the chai.

Bourbon Steak offered up a refreshing Grasshopper Brownie Ice Cream Bonbon. I am not a huge fan of mint ice cream, especially the cloying green kind. Luckily, this was neither fake nor too minty. The balance was just right and it hit the spot nicely.

Finally, David Funaro of Godiva was in attendance with a layered and textured Godiva Sin. This was chocolate overload (in a good way) with crunch, creamy, and silky chocolate stacked up.
After gorging on chocolate, it was nice to look out at the skyline as the DJ played a great mix and guests mingled around the pool. Looking forward to the next Godiva event and I’ll be spending some time in the gym working off this one this week.

A HUGE Thank you to Anthony for taking us with him on his chocolate journey in South Beach! It is always a pleasure working with him and I look forward to more of his posts in 2013.

Yes Daryl but not me Anthony had the pleasure to enjoy this event in South Beach Florida. I think I need to attend the one they do in NYC in the fall. Works of art and if you just sample, no pounds gained!!
